  • Okay so I was just a bridesmaid for the very first time last month, and it’s a pretty expensive experience, so I wanted to share exactly how much money I spent, and what I spent it on! I know that people have a lot of thoughts on how much weddings should cost, how much it should cost to be in the wedding party, all of that, so I thought it would be fun to give you the details on my first experience with this.
    To give you a little bit of background, this was one of my best friend’s weddings, and it's one of the only time's I expect to be a bridesmaid (either way, it'll be the most important time!), so I wasn't aiming to spend as little as possible in this particular scenario.

    We want to hear all of your thoughts on this topic! How much did you spend being a bride, bridesmaid, groom or groomsman before? 👀

  • @Genzmillenial

    Personally I think that the amount you spent wasn’t too bad considering there were a few “optional” costs. However in my opinion the bride should cover at least one of those costs. So either hotel or hair/makeup/dress.
    I understand it is a close friend or you wouldn’t be a bridesmaid but I still feel the wedding couple should bear more costs

    Thanks for doing this breakdown Steph! There’s a bit of secrecy/“if you know you know” with wedding party expenses. I’m going to be a bridesmaid for the first time next summer and I’ve already started a Wealthsimple savings account for bachelorette and wedding expenses 😅
    I’m budgeting about $2000 since I’ll be splitting makeup, bachelorette, wedding weekend Airbnb, etc. with 10 other bridesmaids and the bride. Makeup, clothes, decor, and experiences can add up and sneak up on you!

      Of course, and thanks so much for watching! So true - I think sharing all of the expenses, too (everything over the year leading up to the wedding + true totals (tax, tip, shipping, etc included) is important for the real picture.
      Love to hear that you've started saving up already! I hope you have a great time next summer 😊

    So glad to run across this video. My daughter's stylist is charging $200 for Hair and Make up (I assume this includes eyelashes, but now I know to check on that). Each bridesmaid is about the same and they require a minimum of 7 people in order to travel to the venue to provide services. We have four bridesmaids and the MOG and myself will get service. I was really thinking of offering to help anyone who finds this cost to be too much. I just don't want any of them to feel burdened. All college students with little income. Good to know that the rate is comparable. We will have a sundress attire for rehearsal, so hopefully everyone has something to wear. The bridal shower will be semi-formal or casual. They are doing beach weekend for batchelorette, so I'm not worried about that. Bridesmaids dresses have yet to be chosen, but I am guessing that will be about $300 or less. All bridesmaids are local and will not need hotel rooms.

    I've been a bridesmaid twice so far in my life. Here were my all-in totals for bridesmaid dresses, bachelorette parties (includes all meals and activities), gifts, etc. in CAD:
    August 2022 - About $2,000. I think this is not bad considering that there was a 3-night trip in Vegas included. We managed to get a really good deal on our flights and hotel.
    April 2023 - About $800. For the bachelorette, we had a 2-night stay in a large local Airbnb to accommodate the bride's many friends who participated. We also got groceries and mostly ate in, and rented a limo to get all of us to and from a bar.
    I personally don't mind planning ahead financially for bachelorettes because it's often so hard to get all of us together for a trip or staycation. And fortunately, in my friend group we encourage everyone to speak up about things they're not comfortable paying for.

    Our whole wedding, everything down to the last detail was $12k back in May 2018 in Milton/Burlington. We had 50-55 guests and we had the reception at a golf venue too.

    im okay with budgeting but this video is giving me the “living under the spreadsheet” vibe. Personally i’ll prepare financially for an event and enjoy it without always checking prices etc.

      That's an interesting take, since it seems like most people thought the opposite (ie. that I spent with no budget). Thanks for sharing!
      I personally did financially prepare for the event and then enjoy it in this case 😊I always track expenses because it's part of what we do - share videos like this one! Luckily I find that process fun, too.

    I lived abroad for most of my 20’s so all the weddings I get invited are abroad so I spend $ [300-1500] in flights. We try to get our money worst it and we bake this into our holidays so we have 5-20 days trips, and I try to stay on the cheaper side on dresses/accessories and hotels.

    My husband and I got married this summer. We spent about $7000 for a 30 person wedding. We had the ceremony in my parents’s yard and the reception in a restaurant. Our biggest expenses were food and photography for about $2000 each. Our outfits were both about $500 each.

    Azazie is a popular site but $190 is expensive. Could have went with a cheaper dress or caught a sale. Dresses are usually paid for by the bride in my friend groups. It only makes sense since the bride wants certain length, color, from a specific site. Your bachelorette and bridal shower costs are excellent. $270 hair and makeup is ridiculous. Typically hair and makeup is about $120. Maybe with inflation $150. What did the bride even cover?

    • @stephandden
      @stephandden  10 месяцев назад +2

      Mine was $119 USD, so $169 CAD plus shipping - I felt most comfortable in the style of mine, but there were some that were slightly lower cost than that!
      Agreed re: hair and makeup (I think the cost was also based on the location of the wedding, it was a more expensive area) - I personally wouldn't pay that again, but was interested in trying it out given we'd be doing a RUclips video about the experience 😊

      @@stephanddenWow there's shipping even when you purchase over $100. That makes sense for hair and makeup

    that is expensive...hope they dont get divorced. $2300 would be a nice trip somewhere. The experience doesn't seem to justify the expense put in. You basically spend $440 for costco run.

    • @stephandden
      @stephandden  10 месяцев назад

      It was expensive, yes! I think deciding if the experience justifies the expense is very much personal - for me, it absolutely did 😊 but of course that doesn't mean that it would for everyone. In terms of the rental car, that expense was fine with us - the road trip was about 2 hours both ways, plus the driving around between spots during the weekend (including the pit stop to see my mom!), so we got a lot of good use out of it in our opinion. Thank you for watching + sharing your thoughts!

    Wow your childhood friend took you for a ride. If it was my wife, she would've been all in for 150. And dresses would be bought from a place that refunding is easy like winners, holt renfrew, etc. For makeup my wife usually finds a cheap deal on groupon.

    Personally, weddings are worth going to... you definitely need to budget between $2K-$10K... regarding
    Location,
    Dress/Suit,
    Transportation,
    Festivities,
    Preparation,
    Miscellaneous Expenses
    Definitely pricey, but definitely worth it for the experience and the memories.
