I remember as a TO I was asked to make a player ranking for my circuit.
And so, as an accountant, I did the logical thing. I make a power ranking based SOLELY on the stats of tournament placement.
Not results over friendlies, not results of RRs, not results of grudge matches, not results of other peoples tournaments 1, 2, 9 cities over, or states over, or countries. Just our local tournament results in my circuit.
Very simple, straight forward, simple, logical.
And every competitor and their mom came out to argue why one player was higher than the other because they beat the x in bracket, but never fought them again and that x player then won the tournament boosting their PR but blah blah blah
And when I said "Yeah idc about that. I'm not using additional variables for this. Its tournament placement only." The nightmare that ensued, my lord.
Needless to say I did not make PRs much longer.
TOing smash might have been the worst couple years of my life honestly.

@tiposauce6417 seriously I had a local internet company sponsoring us with 2 set ups for fiber, and rock star energy who came every month with free energy drinks and swag for people.
We ended up losing the rock star sponsor because they saw a few melee players being hyper toxic. I banned them of course but damage was already done.

"Acola has won every event he's attended this year." Yep, he has. All 2 of them. Not diminishing his accomplishment of winning Umebura bc it was huge/stacked, but Sparg0 has entered 7 events, all majors/super majors, and has top 3'd at all of them. Not a spotless record, but he's entering more events and made grands in all but 2. He's consistent, he's grinding, and he's showing up more than acola at the moment. Hoping he can finish the first half strong and finally get the #1 placement he's been at the level to achieve for years.
fr sparg0 has consistently been mr. number 2 for way too long lol. first leo's era of dominance, then there was a short period of time where either tweek or sparg0 were thought to potentially take the title, then acola came outta nowhere and made sure nobody so much as looked the wrong way at his #1 spot for what feels like years.
0:59 Sonix deserves to be dropped 3 spots by default just because that clip exists lmfao
It's sad that this community bullies top players like Sonix and Acola just because of the character they play.
I remember when LEO was the undisputed king, winning most if not all
At majors (so King of Bombs not included) so far this year, Shadic's average placement is 4.4
I hate to say it but gluto fell off
It's not the whole reason but he fell off a bit because of recent controller changes (gamecube controller was hurting him for few years so he tries another)

He's only top 8'd one major and his only good wins are Leo and Neo. Looking at the actual stats, he's not even top 20 rn even if he's top 10 "skill wise".

@@daimajin266 Top 20 is pretty stacked in competiton right now. Outside the top 10 there's players like Doramigi, Shuton, Yaura, Asimo, MuteAce, Onin, Raru, Maister, Tea, KEN, Neo and Riddles. All of them are candidates for top 20 but not all of them will make top 20.

If we stopped being cowards and just banned Steve, you could justify having Acola as number 1 but comparing people with international results and stats to someone who’s only competing in Japan is pretty biased even with his P tier win

The only exception for a Steve ban would be online play because it is really bad.

It financially hurts the community but I won't waste my time with it. Money drives communities and I won't spend a dime on something I find boring. Miya has won two majors and came second at two, and yet Hbox puts a player who hasn't won a single major this year higher than him lol.
Sonix hasn't gotten worse then 2nd place at P and S+ tier tournaments. That consistency is fucking insane and makes him easy top 3-5 in the world.

@@Sacred_Fox Sonix was ranked higher last year anyway at #3 instead of #4. And just because Sonix got one 25th so long ago doesn't mean much when he's making grands at everything. Miya has not been making Grand Finals at everything, especially not this year, which is what the conversation is about.

Rankings don't lower players based on their mains, and offline is more important then online, though I do think online is a great way to improve if you know what you're doing, as seen from players like Sparg0 and Sonix.
