Huge Ali fan here but let’s be right about his jab : he had ONE jab with no variety . A fast flick to blind an opponent for the right cross mostly. No body jab at all / no ‘ ramrod’ jab etc etc. Larry Holmes / sonny liston etc etc jab wise he was not !!

    • @acetofresh1

@@serenityinside1Nonsense you never watched Ali. He had a very smart and one of the best jabs in history. He could throw swivel jab, flicker jab, and he varied the timing of the jab. He also threw the body jab often since Olympics 1960. Nonsense. You can watch Fayz Boxing breakdowns and see that’s not true. When he won gold he jabbed the body, one of the most prolific body jabbers.

    • @johnniea4684

I agree though I'd say it is just one reason why Wilder struggles. He took boxing up relatively late - around 18 iirc and if you start at that age you're not going to become a well-rounded fighter. Wilder has attributes and is a huge natural puncher, but he does so much wrong - he's too tight, bad footwork, shaky defence, poor combinations, lunges and - as you say, no jab. It is the most important punch in boxing. Without it it's tough to establish control of an opponent, for one.

I saw a few seconds of Usyk training somewhere. He is training right. He doesn't gain useless weight for this fight, as he needs speed and movability. Train speed and no wasted movements and no notice. He is remembering to move and train upper body movement with bigger range of motion and faster. He is relaxing more In his neck.. and including his head much better. But there only were a few seconds. Getting close to Tyson, pendulum movements and instead of a Mike Tyson's strength and hooks he will use speed and straight and short and fast punches. Precise like a snake. Tyson I haven't seen yet, but he will train equally efficiently. Both have weaknesses but will they see each others?

Dead right on the jab statement. Back in the day I was a massive david tua fan, and to be honest when they fought lewis jab alone basically won the fight for him. He really did have a world class technique, tua was a extremely dangerous fighter and that jab really made it a comfortable win for him.

Lennox vs. Vitali would make a lot more sense. The Conqueror vs. Dr. Iron Fist was one of the great scraps of that decade, even though it ended in some controversy. "Look at the state of his face!" The only problem is Vitali is still so sore over that stoppage that there's no way he treats the fight as an exhibition.
