Kenya used to be a huge player in the global coffee industry, but the coffee farmlands have since been taken over by real estate developments, especially around Nairobi metropolitan area. I think dismal earnings by coffee farmers coupled with rapid growth and expansion of Nairobi prompted the farmers to ditch coffee industry for real estate industry because the earnings is several times more for the latter than fror the former.
