11:53 to answer your question of do they still race in the rain the short answer is yes they have intermediate tires and full wet tires, but there is a point where the race directors will red flag the session effectively stopping it if the rain becomes a huge safety hazard. When they do race in the rain the cars move so much water it is really hard to see anyway.

Yeah, radio chatter is a thing. Back in the 80's scanners picked up Nigel Mansell calmly describing the view of the sunset over the ocean as he was zipping along at 170+mph...

Some of the stuff you guys point out at the end of the video is spot on and you guys are asking really good questions trying to understand even more. Nice seeing new people to the sport genuinely enjoying it and wanting to learn more!
You have to react to more of Sebastian Vettel, the biggest joker/driver/mechanic/lover/strategist/fireman/marshal/leader/flirt/good guy/bad guy/and so on... in F1, His interviews and team radios are full of hilarious jokes.
Didn't care for him for the longest time. Same as Alonso. But slowly I sort of just get it. Same with Max. Didn't care for him. But he matured. Got even better. Now he's on top... Kimi tho. I've always loved him! Straightforward attitude. That's kinda how I see max... But.. Lewis is my all time favorite. As well as Schumi!
It depends on the quantity of rain: if it's light to moderate, they race, if it's heavy and it's too dangerous the session is red-flagged, basically paused, waiting for conditions to improve, if they don't improve in a set time (2-3 hours normally) the race is canceled. Happened at Spa last year.
1: F1 cars are Hybrids and all cars are powered by a turbocharged V6 with a electric motor to push over 1000HP or near that depending on the Power Unit and 2: Yes F1 does still race in the rain, they have 2 sets of tires to help the cars grip on wet tracks, one set is called intermediate and it’s used for light rain and the second set is called heavy wets which is used to heavy rain but there are some cases like Belgium 2021, where it rains so much and for a long period of time that they had to stop the race since it’s just to risky
10:10 Kimi is trying to ask if the electric motor that's pumping the bottle empty is running without the hose connected and spilling his drink all over the place. And the response he gets is "you will not have your drink". (The cockpit is so cramped that he cannot check by himself and he obviously cannot hear it over the F1 engine running at full blast.)
Kimi nagging about the drink is actually quite clever. He didn't care if he could drink or not, he wanted to now if he could empty the bottle. Empty bottle, lighter car. Lighter car is a faster car.
Guys the answer to the "Do they drive when they can't see?" question is the 2021 Belgian GP where the race was paused for 4 hours then 3 laps were done behind a safety car, and then half points were awarded for qualifying
The monotone voice you could hear often was Kim, the thing about the drink is water due to hydration, but he's also known to enjoy the other drink write a bit, even being one of the older guys he still takes in more than some of the younger guys. Driving in the rain is determined by the stewards (officials, like a ref or umpire), they watch the reports constantly the while race weekend, & wait to see what to do: whether they call the race off, wait to see if it passes over before starting, or if it gets bad during they well pull them off the track for a bit... All depending on how bad it actually gets, but unless it's torrential downpour they usually race in the wet (just like most other sorts on a pitch or court, think rugby, soccer, tennis, horseracing etc, if it's possible to actually play, they will) there have been a few "fun" races to watch when it has been heavy rain. The precaution is taken very seriously, as much as they never want to call of a race due to revenue, because there was a crash in the 70's at a dangerous track where the rain had stopped, & there was a debate as to whether it should still go on, they did, & Niki Lauda was in a horrendous crash where he nearly died, though equip has improved
Great video! One thing to point out which might be obvious for some and not for others is that none of these drivers are American and around half of them do not have english as their first language!
Races have a race time maximum of 2 hours and an event time maximum of 3 hours. The race clock get paused during red flag situations, which can happen because of a crash that requires marshals to enter the track or because of conditions making it unsafe to race. The event never lasts longer than 3 hours, regardless of red flags. This means some races can be cut short because of time restrictions, it happened last year at Spa, the weather was very bad for many hours they only did a few laps behind a safetycar to run at least the minimum amount of laps required for points to be alloted. So basically fans paid hundreds of dollars only to wait in the soaking rain for a lousy procession of slow driving cars, no race, no action, no refunds. You can imagine how well that goes down with folks.
10:38 Modern F1 cars use a hybrid engine, where they use the regular engine for the main power and the electric engine for a speed boost. The reason Lando is shouting that the engine is losing power here though is that something in the engine broke and the engine was no longer capable of generating torque, which drives the wheels.
10:59 the reason Lando‘s car lost power is anti-stall. It is meant to keep the car from stalling, but sometimes causes the car to completely lose power.
Usually the race director will red flag the race if aquaplaning becomes an issue and cars slide off the track too easily, otherwise they tend to continue to race in the rain. If you want to see one of the best drives in the wet, there's a video called "Verstappen's Fightback: Onboard + Team Radio Unedited | 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix" that is well worth checking out (it also has a lot of radio chat)
F1 career starts at 4 or 5 years old with learning to drive karts, going pro in karts at 10(minimum age required for karts),at 15 or 16 in open wheel cars (f4 ,f3 and so on) so by the time they are in F1 talking at those speeds is natural for them. Its easy since you do it without thinking like talking to a person next to you.
The thing with F1 Races in the rain is that they used to keep going even in heavy rain conditions, and there have been instances where, for example in Japan 1976, the race was still going to happen despite monsoon conditions. Niki Lauda famously withdrew from that race when he could've raced and tried to win the championship there, but he thought it was unsafe and with that, his rival James Hunt, who kept racing, went on to win the title that year. Nowadays, if the rain is too heavy, the race is being "red flagged", which is basically just like pausing it. During a red flag, no car is allowed on the track, cars must return to the pitlane and teams can change the tyres if they wish to do so. The last time we had a red flag for rain that delayed the race was the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, but we also had the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix, which didn't even properly start. All we got was 3 laps under the Safety Car, and then the rest was cancelled after hours of waiting for better conditions which never came. Usually, there are always three different outcomes: 1. The race gets red flagged for heavy rain and continues once the conditions are better 2. The race gets red flagged for heavy rain and completely ends at that point if the conditions won't get better 3. The race doesn't even start. 1 being the one that happens the most, 3 the one that happens the least, but ever since the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix which has the last fatal accident of an F1 Driver (Jules Bianchi), they're being more and more careful with racing in the rain.
The rain thing depends. In the old days rain before/at the start would get the race called off completely if too heavy. Otherwise they would race. Look up the Lauda/Hunt championship battle. Lauda crashed and burned alive (survived) in a rain race (the drivers had voted to drive), came back just 3 races later with burned face and lungs, then in the last race of the season in Japan it was raining that hard again but since they had for the first time sold TV rights around the whole globe, the race was driven. Lauda came back into the box after just 1 lap and got out of the car saying it's too dangerous to drive, so Hunt won the championship by 1 point that year. Nowadays the race start would be postponed (total time from the original start time can't be over 3 hours tho), if the weather would not clear enough for at least 75% of the race to be driven, the race would not start. If rain comes during the race, usually they drive, unless conditions get extreme (like Hockenheim back about 20 years when a lot of drivers crashed full speed into cars driving in front of them - since that race they have breaking lights on the cars), then they will have a red flag and try to wait out the heaviest rain. If conditions don't get better race will not be restarted. For this year they've developed a new tire that supposedly will disperse the rain from the ground better, so that they can see better when they are behind other cars. But let me tell you, I've raced in Go-Kart once in the rain and you can basically see nothing. And not just that, in each corner your inner side wheel will shoot a fountain of water directly in your face, so driving in the rain is absurd.
4:15 I have trouble with staying focused in the F1 games just trying to keep the car on the racing line sometimes. My focus is solely on the track and not crashing into the cars in front of me, so forget trying to hold a conversation at the same time haha
GP2 was the saddest thing ever... :( ... alonso had a really aweful time in mclaren..... and yea.. Kimi. you totally need to react to The Iceman! fkn glorious
thats why you should react to F1 Driver Robert Kubica in BMW M4 on the Nürburgring! | Fast&Fun - to see how easy f1 driver drives pretty much *casual* M3 :D I'm sure you will enjoy every minute of it :D Kubica's story itself is interesting as well :)
For stopping the race for a safety issue, there are a few ways this is handled: 1. Yellow flags in the section of track where the incident occurred (if its a crash) - Under a Yellow, no passing is allowed, and cars must proceed with caution, but can do that at full speed. 2. Virtual Safety Car - This forces all drivers to maintain a "Positive Delta", meaning that every driver must drive the same lap time (at a slow pace) for the duration of the VSC, meaning they all hold their current positions before Green flag (race restart). 3. Safety Car - Actual safety car comes out, rounds up the pack and sets a pace for the pack to follow while the track is secured. In this scenario, drivers can bunch up to each other so when the restart happens, any drivers in the lead by a lot of time will have a disadvantage as now their rival will be directly behind them at the restart. 4. Red Flag - If track conditions are so bad that there is a safety issue keeping the cars driving any longer, the FIA will issue a red flag, stopping the race. There is a rule that a race will never exceed a certain time limit, so if that time limit is exceeded the drivers will be placed in the order they were in when the red flag was first waved, and if the time is not exceeded, the race will restart and run until the time limit, not to the normally allotted lap amount. There actually was a red flag for rain at Monaco in 2022, as the track conditions were so wet that even the wet tires were not enough to keep any grip and it was too dangerous to drive as determined by the stewards, so they stopped the race and the race ended up being 20 laps less than originally planned due to time constraints.
They do drive in the rain, they have special tyres for it which can evacuate 23 galons of water per second per tyre at around 190mph. It is rare that a race is cancelled due to safety concerns (extreme weather), but it happens (once in Belgium last season, in Spa Francorchamps). This is because of the thight schedule and money invested in each race; cancelling is a really disastrous situation for FIA (F1 regulating body).
Yes, they pause the race if it rains too hard. Also the cars since 2014 are hybrid. 1.6 V6 engines with an electric engine. Very powerfull electric engine by the way.
We were at the race in Belgium last year, which was the race that couldn't be raced, because of the heavy rain. Postponing, starting behind Safety Car, postponing again, another SC and ended in half points given at the end, so heavy rain is no race 👍🏾😉
They drive in very wet racing conditions. If I remember correctly, the full wet tires are capable of displacing something around 60 liters of water every second to keep the grip in the tires.
I would say that not being able to see in the rain is common. There is still a point where its too dangerous, and the race director will pause the race. But even regular rain drives have extremely limited visibility and high danger. It usually makes things fun because all the cars and drivers behave differently so you get a mixed up finishing order.
The problem even in lighter rain is that f1 cars themselves send a really big amount of water airborne, so as soon as you get closer to another car visibility gets really bad. Also the tyres which you use in dry conditions do not have any groves (to improve grip on the track) so as soon as there is rain everyone starts sliding like crazy so one of the most interesting things about rain races is the crossover point at which you have to decide to switch from the rain tyres to slicks or the other way around, because teams can basically get it really wrong and finish at the back of the field or really right and suddenly be in contention for podium positions they’d have no shot at in dry conditions.
Yep, normally when the conditions on the track are really bad (too much water on track, low visibility or huge crash), the session (free practice, qualifying or race) is red flagged, which means it's paused. At that moment, all the drivers go back to the pits. If the situation is fixed, the session is resumed. If the conditions worsens, the session is definitely stopped.
boys great reaction to a great vid, if u wanna know how/if these cars stay on track in the wet look at brazil 2016 with verstappen starting in 4th position, dropping back to 16th and finishing in 3rd place after an amazing drive through the rain when he was only 19y old. or look at the hockenheim 2019 race which wasnt as wet as the brazil one but u see cars sliding off the track like they are driving on ice.
Normally when the conditions become undrivable, they pause the race and resume it when the conditions improve. However: the maximum lenght of the event is 3 hours. If that time is over, they show a message saying: "Session will not resume." If they haven't completed half of the distance, drivers get half points. If they haven't completed two racing laps, drivers don't get points at all.
11:44 they pause it but if becomes too late they stop it and nowadays they pause it a lot becouse the wets are horrible tires and they are afraid another person is gonna die while try to use inters in too wet conditions.
I know I'm a year later, but I don't see anyone responding to 11:43, so here goes a proper answer and a meme-type answer: - Usually, races get paused. There's a maximum allotted time for a race, regardless of anything, it's like a clock that doesn't stop no matter what. I'm not sure if it's the same for all the races nor if it's 3 or 4h, but it's somewhere around that. Race ends once that threshold gets surpassed, no matter what. Cars could be behind a safety car, stopped in the pit lane during red flag, doesn't matter. So they wait it out and if there's still time, they resume the race. If, say, we have the 4h maximum allotted time for the race, they did 15 laps on a 60 lap race, started raining to the point where they paused it for like 2h30m and then resumed it again, race will probably not end at lap 60, it will most likely turn into a run the clock down type race. Could end in lap 40, lap 50, who knows. - Meme answer is, if the the green rimmed tires (intermediates) aren't good enough and the blue rimmed tires (wets, or extreme wets how they call it) are needed, there's no race.
F1 races usually suspended the session when heavy rain is happening. They will deploy a safety car (pace car) and all the drivers must slow down and follow the safety car with caution. The race directors, the safety car, and the drivers usually assessed and communicate with the team about the situation of the track like how hard is the rain, how's the visibility in front (how much can you see in front of you), and how many puddles of water built up in each corner of the track. After the rain is over, usually all the cars with the help of a safety car would go around the circuit (in racing condition, but at slow speed) trying to clear the puddles of water from the track by driving into it (of course with a wet/rain tires that have a groove on it so it would disperse the water to the side of the track as much as possible), then after deemed safe, the safety car will return to the pitlane and the racing resumed but with no DRS system (this system allow you to open half part of your rear wing on the straight if you're in a 1-second gap within the car in front; basically give you an extra of 10-15 kph of speed) until it deemed safe enough. The last year 2021 Belgium Grand Prix is actually the shortest race in F1 history because of heavy rain from the start of the race and I think all cars only did a total of 3 laps (behind the safety cars) to asses the situation from the original 44 laps. The session was stopped multiple times, but after almost 2,5 hours, the race directors deemed the condition of the track is not safe to race and the race is over. The winners and final race positions are determined by the qualification results (starting position) from the previous day. The official timing of the race only lasted around 3 minutes from the usual 2 hours. You can watch the highlight here: ruclips.net/video/MjmywbEfzk0/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/86LShu2iIpI/видео.html . It's funny because for those 2,5 hours we F1 fans just watch bored drivers and pit crews having fun with each other. Some sleep, some play a mini soccer game, and some sip coffee and eat it's actually refreshing haha.
please react to fernando alonso best starts, he's a 2 time world champion and one of the best of all time. he is known for his amazing starts, reaction time is insane and he'll literally overtake 4 people at the start!
The rain thing is more about aquaplaning then visibility, but yeah races were stopped due to very heavy rain, low visibility and aquaplaning everywhere.
Lando saying he was losing power wasn't electric, he can feel the engine losing power. And yes they race in heavy rain, and they will red flag and pause the race if there is too much standing water. Most of the time in the rain, the wet tires throw a lot of water in the air, so visibility is always a challenge. But that's what makes the rain so exciting. It's also an equalizer, because every driver has to be cautious. So it kind of equals out the performance and makes it a driver vs driver race, as opposed to a car vs car race like it is in the dry.
11:40 yes the race marshal will stop the race for temporarily if the rain stops and stop it permanently if the rain didn't stop for more or less than an hour and half and the race outcome is whoever in the position before the race is stopped and trust me guys, it's not a dumb question to ask cuz in some of the past races, the marshal just didn't stop the rain even when the driver can't see shit through their tight helmet (luckily they have this very great muscle memories of the track). Great content guys keep it up! We're very happy if you wanna get to know more bout f1!! (not that im a f1 expert by any means, just a regular fan of the sport that also learning bout the game more and more) Peace guys!🕊️ ✌️
They do drive in the rain up until its too much. Pretty much race until its a heavy downpour. Even a little rain causes the car behind to see very little to nothing. The wet and intermediate tires have ratings on how much water they move and it is a crazy amount. The best way to dry a track is to actually have the F1 cars race on it. You should check out the new camera that they have that shoots video from inside the drivers helmet right beside their eye. It shows you exactly what the driver is seeing when looking through the helmet.
To understand the concept of rain, kindly react to the tyres used to get a broader understanding. Technically you race in the rain but with a different set of tyres
11:53 So here is how it goes with rain. At the each circuit they have an helicopter. If for whatever reason the helicopter can't get to the nearest hospital in 20 minutes the race can't continue.
fernando alonso is the biggest troll in formula one, he does everything he possibly can to cause chaos and he loves every second of it

@5:49 to this day I still wonder how Kimi was able to have the radio working (since the radio button’s on the wheel & he didn’t have it) 😅
loving these f1 videos!! i highly suggest watching f1 best saves!
If the rain is too heavy you can't race but it's very rare, it happend last year in Spa
The cars are 40/50% electric 50% engine combustion. The cars dont race in the most difficult conditions but yes they do run races in the rain.
It’s funny too watch that you two just sitting there and don’t know what too say. But as a person who watched all this races it’s really funny 🤣🤣
10:38 Modern F1 cars use a hybrid engine, where they use the regular engine for the main power and the electric engine for a speed boost. The reason Lando is shouting that the engine is losing power here though is that something in the engine broke and the engine was no longer capable of generating torque, which drives the wheels.
6:17 y’all clearly don’t know Kimi. Classic. 😂 Welcome to the sport.
6:00 your typical Ferrari moment
Ferrari should rename their brand to "Disappointment"
10:59 the reason Lando‘s car lost power is anti-stall. It is meant to keep the car from stalling, but sometimes causes the car to completely lose power.
Yes! Been waiting for you guys to react to this 🤗♥️
Usually the race director will red flag the race if aquaplaning becomes an issue and cars slide off the track too easily, otherwise they tend to continue to race in the rain.
Usually, there are always three different outcomes:
1. The race gets red flagged for heavy rain and continues once the conditions are better
2. The race gets red flagged for heavy rain and completely ends at that point if the conditions won't get better
| Fast&Fun - to see how easy f1 driver drives pretty much *casual* M3 :D I'm sure you will enjoy every minute of it :D Kubica's story itself is interesting as well :)
he said "KARMA!" 🤣🤣🤣
this video just shows all of the raw emotions the drivers and teams feel
For stopping the race for a safety issue, there are a few ways this is handled:
Bruhhh , Kimi's radio are absolute gold.
There was only one race that was canceled because of the race but usually they still go when it’s raining and that is when the race get interesting!!
Yh the FIA can pause the race in severe conditions and resume later.but they can drive in wet conditions, they have dedicated tires for that
We were at the race in Belgium last year, which was the race that couldn't be raced, because of the heavy rain. Postponing, starting behind Safety Car, postponing again, another SC and ended in half points given at the end, so heavy rain is no race 👍🏾😉
I love that the majority of the clips are Kimi. He is awesome
They drive in very wet racing conditions. If I remember correctly, the full wet tires are capable of displacing something around 60 liters of water every second to keep the grip in the tires.
I watched the entire video just for Charles' "no no no no" in Monaco but the "i am stupid" in baku was great, will always be funny 😂
Wow, my two favorite sports nba and f1
Bro your fr carrying my RUclips Fyp right now, love the videos
Great reaction guys, continue like this👏
sometimes they stop in the rain. normally they pause if there is a big crash in the rain and see how the weather changes. sometimes it takes hours!
great video guys! I think you could do a reaction about the top 10 teammates collisions in f1
11:48 yes they drive in the rain. Watch the wetrace masterclass Max Verstappen Brazil 2016
Kimi is a national treasure. The dude cracks me up
Can’t believe they didn’t include ‘What did we just do?!’
boys great reaction to a great vid, if u wanna know how/if these cars stay on track in the wet look at brazil 2016 with verstappen starting in 4th position, dropping back to 16th and finishing in 3rd place after an amazing drive through the rain when he was only 19y old. or look at the hockenheim 2019 race which wasnt as wet as the brazil one but u see cars sliding off the track like they are driving on ice.
Kimi is The biggast rage in f1
Kimi:Bwoah
I know I'm a year later, but I don't see anyone responding to 11:43, so here goes a proper answer and a meme-type answer:
- Usually, races get paused.
- Meme answer is, if the the green rimmed tires (intermediates) aren't good enough and the blue rimmed tires (wets, or extreme wets how they call it) are needed, there's no race.
love your reactions to this sport guys. keep pushing my guys
You guys need to check out the movie Rush. A really good F1 movie that takes place in 70’s with legendary rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.
10:00 - they have a drinking system in the car to be able to stay hydrated while racing. Literally they can take sips of water during the race.
This is the F1 I remember
F1 will still race in raining conditions, but if it gets too heavy they pause the race. Driver safety is #1 priority.
Lecerc cursing himself out is gold🤣
The rain thing is more about aquaplaning then visibility, but yeah races were stopped due to very heavy rain, low visibility and aquaplaning everywhere.
Kimi is a treasure.
Yoke & Karma , My Few Fav F1 Words Uttered by a Legend
11:23 depends on how much standing water there is on the track
Kimi was so funny with his comms
They do drive in the rain up until its too much. Pretty much race until its a heavy downpour. Even a little rain causes the car behind to see very little to nothing. The wet and intermediate tires have ratings on how much water they move and it is a crazy amount. The best way to dry a track is to actually have the F1 cars race on it.
You should check out the new camera that they have that shoots video from inside the drivers helmet right beside their eye. It shows you exactly what the driver is seeing when looking through the helmet.
f1 dosen't stop the race when it rains driver's pitstop to change to wet or intermediate
To understand the concept of rain, kindly react to the tyres used to get a broader understanding. Technically you race in the rain but with a different set of tyres
Yes they do drive in the rain but if it gets too bad then they will either pause it or cancel it depending on how long it is predicted to last.
that "hanging here like a cAOw" with the voice crack makes me laugh a little too much considering Nico was very much NOT in a fun position there
The Race Director can red flag a race for several reasons, crazy rain being one of them.
First minute is just fernando doing what he does best... crying🤣🤣
Yes they still drive in rain. They have the “brake lights” flash to show where the cars in front of them is
11:53 So here is how it goes with rain. At the each circuit they have an helicopter. If for whatever reason the helicopter can't get to the nearest hospital in 20 minutes the race can't continue.
