    Mr. Musk's so-called "vision" of an everything platform comes about from his observation about how one or two platforms come to dominate in China, and his hubris.

    • @tempst-c6r
      @tempst-c6r 8 месяцев назад +9

      One or two platforms can dominate such a big market as China,This is because they cooperated with the government in the past to create a policy-level monopoly.

    • @FabioCapela
      @FabioCapela 8 месяцев назад

      @@tempst-c6r Not quite.
      Homegrown platforms getting a strong start in China was in large part due to "China's Great Firewall"; China didn't want platforms supplying its citizens with content from outside the country in a way that would be impervious to the government taking down anything it disliked. Thus, any content-providing site, including journalism and social media, who wasn't willing to take down content at the whims of the Chinese government ended blocked.
      What's more, creating a China-exclusive version of the service was seen in the west as bowing to China, carrying enormous image and political risks to companies that derived most of their revenue from outside China.
      This, plus the sheer amount of money to be made in a market with multiple times more potential customers than the US, led to some pretty well financed Chinese companies vying for supremacy with no competition from outside China - and those companies were able to look at what had worked outside China and copy all of it.
      Those companies had another advantage in that many of the services that appeared piecemeal out here and we take for granted - like credit cards - either didn't exist or had a very reduced user base in China, so the version of those services added to the growing Chinese super-platforms had a good chance at becoming ubiquitous.
      When the "Great Firewall" was downsized, allowing more foreign content in, foreign platforms still weren't able to compete inside China, as by that time the Chinese super-platforms already had incumbent advantages, not to mention the language barrier; if you look at just the Chinese-language content, the Chinese platforms are absurdly larger - and, thus, more desirable for regular users - than any foreign platform could ever hope to be. Not even Facebook can dream of competing for Chinese-language content and users right now.
      Those conditions aren't present in any developed country, so creating a super-platform there would likely take either a very long period of sustained growth - with the platform being unprofitable for much of it as it took onto each segment's market leader - or a round of consolidation so big it should trigger anti-monopoly proceedings in most countries around the world.

    To be honest, we could sit here all day and legitimately criticise any of the American platforms including X, Meta, RUclips and whomever. However, what really needs to happen is that they are faced with real, viable competition from another country. TikTok is an example of a successful platform from another country that has done well internationally, but that comes with all sorts of different issues and controversy and in any case, doesn't really compete directly with any of the other platforms. The same also really applies to computers and operating systems that are currently monopolised by American giants such as Microsoft and Apple. Our governments need to be ensuring that our education systems and government incentives and support for tech companies is robust enough and capable enough of inspiring our own respective 'Silicon Valley company equivalents' (for want of a better genre name).

    Dont think thats gonna happen. So sell x. Focus his efforts on tesla spacex and ai.

    You don't get 10 cents for every viewer....rather a small fraction of a cent. If he got 10 cents a view he would be a billionaire many times over. Are we sure this guy is an expert??

    • @Masterrunescapeer

      Context is missing a bit, he's talking about the creator getting that, not what the creators' profit is, usually it's around 2-3c per view for YT paid out on the low end, but higher end is 5c+/view (think high CPM stuff), with YT usually doing a 55% cut of the revenue.
      If you google how much an add costs on YT, it's 10-30c per view for the business.

    • @adudas78
      @adudas78 8 месяцев назад

      @@Masterrunescapeer Your math is a little off. An usual creator RPM is about $3. That means $3/1000 views or 0.3 cents/view and not 3 cents/view. 10 cents /view would equal and RPM of $100/1000 views.

      @@phillipbanes5484 Yes he was FORCED to buy twitter. And yes he DID try to back out... Remember the bot lawsuit that he lost? This is because the reverse termination clause required an external factor. He could not have backed out at will (he absolutely wanted to).
      As a result, he was forced to pay almost double twitter's market cap at the time of the sale. Now it's worth almost 1/4 of what he paid.
