I still have 4GB in my T500 and find that fine for most things. Edit: Now using a MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM. Could never go back to 4GB and I wouldn't even recommend 8GB if you're buying a computer without the option to upgrade the RAM.
I have owned an i5 4200U of this Thinkpad Yoga S1 12. I have had this now for 6 years and it has been the best investment ever. I have upgraded to an SSD from a HDD which improved speed of responsiveness. I also changed the fan which became very noisy (a $2 part from China imported through Aliexpress). have the 8gb ram model. I did an experiment whereby I opened every single program on my computer, two browsers with a dozen of so tabs open, may of them playing youtube and netflix, etc. I couldnt get the machine to give up on me. The RAM went as high as 7.6GB used. The CPU was handling EVERYTHING I was throwing at it (not even coming close to overheating). With a 1080p crisp screen and decent 300+ NITS, I have no need for anything else. It will continue to serve my needs for years to come. The only thing that was dated was the Windows 8.1 which was upgraded to WIndows 10. Also the build quality is excellent. Hinges are very reliable and shows absolutely no sign of wear after 6 years.
Bought an Acer R11 Chromebook on recommendation and quickly regretted it due to the inability of Chrome OS to work with a lot of every day apps or programs. I put up with it for 6 months and looked hard to find a laptop that was the same physical size (portability requirements) and had a full 2:1 touchscreen ability. This old tech is so much better and your vid put my mind at rest as I lashed out a couple of hundred on a refurbished 8GB version. Thanks buddy.
Hay! Just started watching your channel. Not sure why or how but your video series from 6 years ago (New PC Build, where you had the 5770 but it was faulty) was on my recommended videos list. It was really cool to see that tech again. Loving the 'The Worlds Fastest Power MAC G3' series at the moment. Love your enthusiasm and how genuine you are!
Yeah 16x10 is probably my favourite, either that or the weird slightly-taller-than-16x10 aspect ratio the 15" PowerBooks had going on. Always loved the displays on the late 2005 models.
I just want to get my mitts on one of the Thinkpads from the mid to late 90's. Those things were TANKS!. They were made of the same stuff that makes up the airplane black boxes. I'm pretty sure it's dwarf star alloy.
It's still a far cry from the comfort of zooming on a Mac but anything in the browser is absolutely fantastic. I have been recommended a couple of 3rd party apps for zooming in Windows, I may make a video about it soon because it's such a huge factor for me when choosing machines, pretty much the most important thing.
Agreed, I'd be interested in checking them out, if you decide to make them. I myself have a 2012 MB{ Retina and it's getting a bit long in the tooth, so an u[grade might be in the future.
nice little system you have there, I am starting to get into having smaller laptops after I got a free 2011 MacBook Air (4GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1.8GHz i7 [dual core]) from work... it's keyboard and trackpad didn't work so I had to replace the top case, which went very well, and now it is my main laptop
There is bash on that Lenovo Yoga Book but the X_Server that is supplied is dodgy to say the least but would be an idea to get the X.ORG X_Server from CANONICAL once rebooted you do sudo .\xinit ret then you can install the UBUNTU desktop with the latest version which will be Gnome.
The laptop looks pretty good. I was never a big fan of touch screen displays on laptops and desktops because of the smudge on the display. Then I have to clean it. I like the way you use it. It looks really good actually!
Thanks man! Agreed, the smudges suck but not noticeable when the display is powered up, unless there's a lot of glare. When it's off though, wow... lol.
The best way to clean screens is Muc-Off Visor Cleaner, this pack has a small high quality microfiber cloth and a pouch to keep the bottle and cloth together. tinyurl.com/y76dpnc9
mini HDMI that relay odd inclusion because its not like the standard HDMI socket is huge. The standard HDMI socket is shorter than and not much wider than the USB A socket. A laptop aimed a business users should still be rocking VGA or at the very least mini display port.
Great video as usual! Will def take a look at adding one of these to my collection. The "Yoga" part of this one is very similar to my Acer Spin. It comes in handy on work sites to watch vids on an external optical drive. But i will eventually replace that with a portable HD instead of lugging disks around.
Loved my Thinkpad yoga original, until one day it burned itself a year and a half later... Luckily I had a square trade warranty and got a nice check to buy an X1 yoga!!
funny, i got my x250 with a backlit keyboard with one year warranty with lenovo, so i got the trackpoint buttons (main reason i would never get a XX40 series thinkpad , i got my x250 for $340 and it is in excellent consition, but i still use the x220 a lot more, the keyboard from the x220 kicks the x250's keyboard
I would have never guessed there was another visually impaired PC builders (I don't know if you call yourself an enthusiast) unless l00p built his PC. I have albinism, which im going to guess you also have, given your hair color, if not correct me.
Great video, thanks! I can't quite tell, is the keyboard "full size" or are the keys slightly smaller than on a normal keyboard so as to fit them in the space?
Brillant deal on that little ThinkPad! :) Looking really nice for a just a lighting machine. Could do a lot more if you were up to using Windows more often :P
Great video Tom...so weird that the laptop would have a moving HDD instead of a n SSD?When you consider the fact that a moving HDD will be damaged if it is flipped around almost at any point.
When it was made in 2003, SSD's where very expensive, had very small capacity and did not have very good life expectancy. These days it's very different so putting an SSD in now is an excellent and inexpensive upgrade !
Awesome video Tom! I'm just thinking, if you have the device in tablet mode, and you grip it too hard, wouldn't the keys press regardless of the keyboard backing lifting up?
Yeah I'm doing awesome thanks dude. It's my birthday on Wednesday so I'm hoping to use money I get then (and money from possibly selling my 2007 MBP) to upgrade to a 2011/2012 Mac Mini. Not ideal I know but it will help get the job done and all. Have a good one :)
Properly written software will use as much as it can get its hands on but still function on a fraction of what your system has in it (unless you have an anaemic amount of course lol).
The other ThinkPad is actually a little ill, something strange going on with the power side of things, maybe battery I'm not entirely sure. That's on the list of 'things to do'.
ItsMyNaturalColour Tom if you are such a mac fan why are you even using this You are Apple this Apple that In reality Apple HW is the worse only their SW is decent
They said they where going to make a real tinkpad again at some point , simlar to teh x220 but nothing ever came of it . x220 was the last thinkpad R.I.P
The Game Hub They're all tools my friend. I'm a fan of things that work for a purpose. This ThinkPad runs circles around all Mac laptops put together if you need a touchscreen for a specific application (as shown above), simply because Apple don't offer a touchscreen and probably never will.
That's a common thing with many PC laptops. They've hardly changed in their design (and size/bulk/weight) over the last 10 years or so unless you get one of the fancy expensive ones. My 2010 MacBook Pro is thinner and lighter than most new PC laptops and that thing is considered a chunky monkey by even 2012 standards in the Mac world lol.
in all fairness it's still a thinkpad, which sort of can't change their design all that much without lenovo facing the wraith of all of the thinkpad enthusiasts and enterprise people lol
Apple, eat your heart out! And Steve, try not to spin too much in your grave. Man, it's funny how Apple has fallen behind in all things Mac, whether desktop or laptop. Other companies are leading the way while Apple fiddles with mobile devices and their media-related things. Good money for them, I guess, but not good news for the Mac.
8GB for basic usage is MORE than enough, had my laptop since 2015 and never had problems with lack of memory.
Same man, agreed!
I still have 4GB in my T500 and find that fine for most things.
Edit: Now using a MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM. Could never go back to 4GB and I wouldn't even recommend 8GB if you're buying a computer without the option to upgrade the RAM.

Loving the 'The Worlds Fastest Power MAC G3' series at the moment. Love your enthusiasm and how genuine you are!
Great job, greatest real Thinkpad Yoga which was still a thinkpad.
I love the thinkpad design its probably one of the best laptop designs of all time.
Nice, my only gripe with the newer machines is the lack of 16x10 screens.
I too am a 16x10 lover, there's totally space here too, the bezel is massive. 1920x1200 would be absolutely gorgeous on this machine.
Yeah 16x10 is probably my favourite, either that or the weird slightly-taller-than-16x10 aspect ratio the 15" PowerBooks had going on. Always loved the displays on the late 2005 models.
Same here. 16 : 10 is the best for me. :)
Milko Obsolete aspect ratio
There's nothing obolete about it. It's just cheaper to make.
I just want to get my mitts on one of the Thinkpads from the mid to late 90's. Those things were TANKS!. They were made of the same stuff that makes up the airplane black boxes. I'm pretty sure it's dwarf star alloy.
l'année de production de lenovo thinkpad yoga 20c0 ?? merci d'avance
Tom I'm in the exact situation as you regarding eyesight. I think you've convinced me to buy a touchscreen laptop.
It's still a far cry from the comfort of zooming on a Mac but anything in the browser is absolutely fantastic. That's an awesome machine for free man :D
I'm liking the small laptops too, they're so easy to throw around and very light.
Out of curiosity what happened to | IMNC in the title?
There is bash on that Lenovo Yoga Book but the X_Server that is supplied is dodgy to say the least but would be an idea to get the X.ORG X_Server from CANONICAL once rebooted you do sudo .\xinit ret then you can install the UBUNTU desktop with the latest version which will be Gnome.

Have you ever noticed screen burn or image ghosting? If so what did you do to resolve

X1 Yoga, absolutely lovely machine from what I've seen online!
ItsMyNaturalColour absolutely, but too expensive. From now on I'm buying laptops on eBay

Welsh? Can't wait to get one of these things
I've been thinking about getting a thinkpad laptop and using it for video editing
I've only owned 2 but they've both been absolutely fantastic. They offer some fairly beefy models too that'd probably chew through a good few videos!
Great video, thanks!
I can't quite tell, is the keyboard "full size" or are the keys slightly smaller than on a normal keyboard so as to fit them in the space?
i completely agree on the point about 8GB Ram but then my main laptop is a 2009 13in macbook pro with 4GB sooooooo
I bought a ThinkPad T60 to tinker around with!
Gonna replace the BIOS with LibreBoot and use Parabola Linux or something on it
Brillant deal on that little ThinkPad! :) Looking really nice for a just a lighting machine. Could do a lot more if you were up to using Windows more often :P
That's an Awesome ThinkPad! Then again, I like all ThinkPads.
rip paint
They're making it downloadable.
just as im about to pick up a lenovo thinkpad x220 myself to hackintosh for my college laptop!
Such a wonderful machine, enjoy it :D
Aside Windows 10 Big Brother edition, cool system. Enjoy!
Thanks for the review

Ian Clarke it was made in 2013.
Where's the uploads man?
Great review! Planning to buy one
Awesome video Tom! I'm just thinking, if you have the device in tablet mode, and you grip it too hard, wouldn't the keys press regardless of the keyboard backing lifting up?
They're pretty 'unpressable' when the laptop is in tablet mode, you'd have to really try hard to get them to register.
Fair enough, thanks for clearing it up. Hope you're doing well.
I'm good thanks man, hope things are good with you:)
Great video Tom. Nice little laptop you got there. 🤓👍🏻
Hi Tom! Awesome video :) do you think you will do a video of you installing OS X on it as a hackintosh?
i need refurbished keyboard of this model. Is anybody selling thr.
Do you recommend this for online classes?
It should be enough
preciso da tua a juda o meu laptop não aparece imagem
You say about 8gb RAM, I use 12.5 doing school work....... Something is wrong if its just notes...
There's 'using' and then there's actually using.
Properly written software will use as much as it can get its hands on but still function on a fraction of what your system has in it (unless you have an anaemic amount of course lol).
I manage on 4 gigs of ram.
Michael Cox me too but I barely do, I'm upgrading my computer to 8 soon though.
What’s the status of the other thinkpad?
The other ThinkPad is actually a little ill, something strange going on with the power side of things, maybe battery I'm not entirely sure. That's on the list of 'things to do'.
ItsMyNaturalColour Tom if you are such a mac fan why are you even using this

In reality Apple HW is the worse only their SW is decent
Apple hardware is exactly the same that you'll find in any windows PC, only priced much higher.
They said they where going to make a real tinkpad again at some point , simlar to teh x220 but nothing ever came of it .

very nice laptop
Does this laptop have an msata port for SSD?
Yes
Watching this on my 20C0 :)
No pen, and 1366x768 display one
Hey NaturalColor dude, next time, make it short. Cheerios!
you obviously are new to his content
Kinda look like my Dell Latitude E5470! :)
i got a N64
Too bad it has the track pad without the trackpoint buttons. Lenovo really fucked that up on this generation thinkpad
Watching this vid on a T530 :D
old logo
Looks about 8 years old.

I hate windows 10.
And I got my original iMac working again!!!!!
Arewand463 I hate windows 10 too. Way too overrated

NOT A CLASSIC KEYBOARD. sorry desu.
Yeah, I messed up a bit there. It's a chiclet style keyboard, what I was meant to say was the keycaps have the classic ThinkPad smiley shape.
:D +1
