To be honest, I was not expecting the improvement to be that dramatic. The key really seemed to be to work a cushion into the hammers through needling. But hats off to Abel for making a hammer that was so responsive.
I recently played a Seiler ED-126 upright which was equipped with Abel hammers. I was very impressed with the tone. A very sweet and warm mid-range with clear and sparkly treble. The bass was very good for an upright and had a nice warmth.
I've got a 19teens Bjur Bros upright piano and bought, through a local shop (providing the bottom and top base/tenor/trebble hammers) a new set of Abel hammers to replace the old ~110, or so, year old hammers. Imagine my dissapointment when I discovered that the new hammers didn't weigh off the same (sometimes being even 2 grams less (while base hammers also needing head/mount work to keep them from interfering on "landing") and with the compound angle drilled incorrectly so head hits off tipe/nose off the strike point of the origional hammers. Now I've got to fill in the holes, add some material, re-drill and properly weight each hammer (after sanding the Ushape face flat). I really expected better of Abel, and will not get any more replacement hammers from them. I'm guessing you've had better results from Abel. Best!
Thank you! And I agree. Really nice hammers to work with. Have you tried the "Americana" hammer by Abel made special for Dale Erwin (Piano Forte Suppy)?
awesome. you played that bach gbv nicely. yes to the one note beauty. sounds like this steinway ruclips.net/video/p4yAB37wG5s/видео.html thanks to those abel hammers you put on.
You know? At first I laughed at the suggestion that this Kawai resembles that famous Gould recording but I listened back to back and…damn if they’re not at least similar!! High praise, sir. (I’ll take it!) 😂
Oh man! If I could turn back time that's what I'd have used for an example. I might have to make a video anyway. It is a strange name, isn't it? As if it's meant to console those who don't have the space or the funds for a grand piano.
Excellent sound for an upright piano.
Thank you!
Wow! What a sound out of a 42”!
One of the best 42" uprights I've heard.

Great work!
I appreciate it!

I love when piano makers put their pianos on the best light with high-quality hammers. I recently tune a Schimmel equipped with Renners. Gorgeous!
I gave the first like!
This piano may be nice for people who like to play Bach, I think.
Agreed! Very clear and, as I said, the beauty of single notes is great for sparse, unpedaled textures.

So sorry you’re dealing with that!!
Can't go wrong with Abel hammers. Out of the box they are great and need very little work. They are my go to hammers on all my rebuilds. Nice job.

NO I have not

I don't suppose a console piano is meant only for consolations? 🤣

@@insidepianos you beat me in being funny!
Maybe there is a consolation with lots of single notes. I was thinking Burgmüller.
