What a wonderful tutorial! My ex’s mother from Brazil made these all the time, and shellacked (SP?) them, too. Plant holders, trash baskets, etc. YOu’re so COOL!
Thanks cool much for this video btw!!!My mom bought one of these in a rectangular shape, from World Market for like $20or$30 & she keeps the tv,dvd, dvr remotes in it on the table next to the couch, where it's kinda displayed proudly. Everyone who sees it just loves it & I've been wanting one myself, but havent seen anymore & refuse to pay that much if I did(now that I know how to make a similar one that looks great & fun to make). I have tons & tons of catalogs/magazines saved up & a few pks.bamboo skewers tape staple puller, all readily available to use now...
What would happen if you started out like making the piles/bundles that are the main part of the base & that you form a +sign with,by using an odd # in the 1st place? Like instaed of 3&3,like if u used 3 horizontal & 4verticle,or would that not work out right at some pt.anyway?
I think it would make a more rectangle/oval shape, versus having rotational symmetry (aka being round in shape) but it should still work just the same!
This same idea should work with just about any paper that can be rolled into a tube and still be flexible enough to weave together! I've made baskets similar to this using paper streamers/crepe party streamers, so thinner paper would probably work too.

Excellent tutorial!!! I’m actually going to give this a try. You’re totally helpful with your explanation🎉
Yay! Glad it was helpful, and I hope you have fun making your own basket.
Now THAT'S a paper tube 🙂

That's so fun! And I totally get about seeing things and thinking "I could make that myself" lol Hope you enjoy weaving your basket!
This is so cool
It really is such a fun project, and I love how it turns trash into something useful! Thanks for watching and commenting.

Is there another option for the magazines?
Like card stock or something thinner?
(Guess to get a more defined design)
