I'm surprised Persson didn't show it sooner. daniel went on for what seemed like 5 minutes talking about 45o before offering to pay for a card. coulda accepted, shown the 5, had him call and bang. 20k turns into 159k.
No, that actually helped Daniel to fold. Since Persson called the turn re-raise and he is holding a 5 of diamonds, he has only one bluff that make sense, which is 54 off (two combinations). On the other hand, he has all sorts of flushes there: K5d, J5d, 105d, 85d, 75d, 65d, 54d, 53d (eight combinations). Since he was the big blind and flop went check check check, Persson's flush story is very credible. As is his overbet - he is targeting hands like KQ, KK, AK, QQ that are all in Daniel's range - he could have easily checked all this nutted hands to strengthen his checking range and because these hands didn't require too much protection on the flop (with Daniel blocking the nut straight). So, once he saw the diamond, Daniel knew it was either flush or nothing. And Eric simply had much more flushes than nothings in his range. That's why it was a well invested 20k - it helped Daniel to lose much less.
I believe that if Person was bluffing he wouldn't show any of his cards. That should make Daniel's decision to fold easier in my opinion....But since it was a 5, and he was guessing 45, it might play mind games on Daniel
I was sitting here looking at those chips thinking If I had four of those $5K chips I could replace my car that caught on fire in my garage. Then bro threw him that exact amount to see one card. LOL .....
@@MrMaacin05 I never said anything about the stakes you play. I just critiqued your understanding of the dynamic here. Your understanding is clearly level one "Negreanu hopes I have 45, I should show my 5" Level 1 thinking dude. Sorry

If you want an interesting but respectful game of cat and mouse in a cash game, you invite Eric Persson and Daniel Negreanu. If they both get money in, it will almost certainly be interesting.
Bad river donk from Persson. Dneg might have tried to represent the flush with his ace blocker. That's likely why he raised the turn. Trying to make someone fold a king at the river if the flush comes.
Erik respects Daniel; just look at how civil and even cordial their heads up match, especially compared to the way he behaved with Hellmuth. Actually, so does Polk, once his little promotional online harassment campaign was over. All those guys have big egos. Some of them are still friendly and playful.
Wonder why Daniel said “wait, wait” at 2:10… I think it had something to do with the ace of diamonds in his hand. Maybe he was saying wait wait and making sure he didn’t have the nuts lol. But the queen of diamonds is out there. Any ideas?
It is precisely because of the ace of diamonds why Daniel was so perplexed. He would expect Eric to have the nuts with that kind of a shove into a small-ish pot. But because he had the ace of diamonds he knew Eric could not have the nuts, hence the confusion. It seems to me that he was seriously pondering a call as if you don't have the nuts, you usually make those kinds of plays only with air. Its one of those polarized "nuts or bluff" -situations usually, though not here.
Fun hand to watch! Absolutely foolish showing him either card. Daniel said immediately 4/5 off wouldn’t get to the river. The only 5 combo that gets there is 4/5 diamonds. Showing the J is just as bad. J/10 off and J/8 diamonds are both likely to still be in the hand. What bluffs does he have when he shows either card? A/5 off? K/J off? He was about to get called off for a big win and gave it all away for $20k
If Pearson gave that enough thought, he would have said yes straight away and shown the jack. Chances are Daniel has to consider its 10 j or aj and as Daniel has already basically said he has the ace of D. He might have got paid.
Could have just saved the $20K and folded. Even if you don't put him on runner, runner flush. You have middle pair which loses to a two pair, top pair, and straight since it's possible gambling Eric could have called $2K preflop with J 10 suited or off suit, and then flopped open ended. The less likely hand here would be a set for Eric but that also beats your mid pair. Negreanu just value bet himself with that $20K gift 🙄
when persson shows 5d, it's almost impossible for him to be bluffing, hence the quick fold. he likely has 12 combos each of A5o, K5o, but 52s,53s,54s,56s,57s,85s,T5s,J5s,Q5s,k5s, and A5s. thats 44 combos of flushes vs 24 combos of likely bluffs.
He obviously has a flush, anyone who thinks its tough read he has a flush doesnt understand poker. Since DN has the ace diamonds means he prob has 45 diamonds. He just wanted the tv time. He actually looked like an idiot. He was stuck on one hand and didnt look at the likely range. Having the aceD makes it less likely he had a flush, but only 3% less likely.
Exactly, zero chance he was calling here, this was just a cringe tank. Literally one hand he beats here, which is 4/5 off suite, and Eric is definately not calling that raise out of position with that hand.
@@Alexandertygreat yes that's the unconditional probability, but the conditional probability given the board is higher since most people would fold random hands with two diamonds like 2d5d etc. AdXd is much more likely.
