Got my 3rd class medical last weekend, took my first flight Monday, and I have two lessons scheduled for next week. Thanks Steveo for inspiring me to do this!
I’m a long time private pilot and never went instrument rated. I do enjoyed this intense and calculated IMC Flight and the skills you maintain Steven. Thank you for an A1 viewer experience.
I really like your videos. The production quality is easy on the eyes. I am a private pilot since 1990 but never pursued my Instrument Rating. The video gave me the hunger again to reach a new level. Thanks!!!
At least you got Radar Vectored, when we were there on our way to the Bahamas we got 3 re-routs in IMC/Turbulence /Unfamiliar airspace. We got it sorted out with the great help of some very patient controllers!
I soloed at PDK in 1978. Back then it was runway 2L. The mag var then was 0 degrees over Atlanta so navigating as a student was easier. Good memories. The airport has grown so much since the 70s. Welcome to Atlanta!!
I live and work around KPDK...I remember that day exactly. It was a crazy localized storm. It was so bad, that I had to send my family home after my kids swim lessons and skip CFA because how violent and out of nowhere that storm was. As i went to get the take out, I remember looking up at the beautiful and ominous clouds, wondering what it would be like to fly around them...and here you are...showing me exactly how it would have been...thanks!!! I'm really glad you made it safely.
It is always cool on your channel when you hear ATC say have a good day Stevo. Those guys listen and talk on those frequencies all day long for a living and still love to watch you do it. Now that's a true fan. And by the way nice landing as always
Got goosebumps, with this flight, you just put me back to my student pilot days at PDK, where I earned my PPL and built some instrument time at EPPS Flight School (no longer exists). Those ATL skies certainly never change, though! The control tower shot reminded me when I was seated in that old and great C152 on the flight line that used to be in that same spot then. Thanks for this channel. Big fan and greetings from Colombia, South America!
Thanks for the interesting flight, Steveo!! I also want to compliment you on how well you handled what looked to be some of the nastiest IMC weather I've ever seen. Also, thanks for the terrific way you use your cameras in getting some of the best video in the business. Finally, thanks for the constant info you provide during all your videos, it's very helpful. WHOA!!! THAT approach and landing were clearly NOT for the faint of heart......... and, as you said.......... not the time for amateur hour!! You appeared to handle that with your usual competent, calm, and workmanlike flying. Also, in these conditions and with that level of workload, that TBM truly shines as a pilot's "best friend". Thanks for posting.
A word on the Bose headset. I have one which had a transmit problem. Sent it back to Bose who not only sorted out the problem but also serviced the whole unit, replacing a seal and an ear cushion at no charge. Impressed!
Disagree. He is a professional pilot doing what he has been trained to do. It is really, IMO, no different to a CAVOK day except then the scenery is different and the workload is a bit lighter.
lol how having no visual is no different to cavok? There are plenty of crashes of airliners because of flying in bad conditions without visual reference...
LilPizzaRoll yeah! Talking is the one thing I’m not allowed to do, but I’m there Monday’s- Thursday’s, 9-3 until August. I actually fly out of PDK too, so I know Rohan and Spencer and a few others out of CAA.
Well wife of mine decided after getting her ATP she wanted to be a controller so she now works in the D area of Seattle Center as a fully check out CPC. I decided that while I enjoyed ATC I liked to fly more, so I’m flying Q400s now.
@@asherlagyak1524 CAA Is where I started my training 5 years ago! I love and miss Spencer and Rohan a LOT. I'm now a full time student down here in Orlando.

Takes a long time. I have 260 hours PPL now, and I am amazed at how easy steveo makes even a challenging crosswind landing look. And yet he always plays it by the book, with a very healthy "better safe than sorry" attitude. When it comes to old vs. bold pilots, he's going to be one of the old ones one day.
AWESOME VIDEO STEVE!! They really made you sweat on this one! My son lives about 5 miles from KPDK and I have spent many hours at this airport, the second busiest in Georgia watching lucky folks like you come and go. Great music, as always; I am just wondering how anyone could give you a thumbs down? Thanks for creating and sharing!

Very interesting video, thanks for sharing! I don't know so much about smaller planes, but that this thing has a pressurized cabin surprised me :) And it can fly up to FL310, the Dash 8-Q400 only goes to FL250, some to FL270.
Great video Steveo. Very demanding flight. Very busy. Thanks for sharing. Have fun at Osh. It's amazing how you never seem to get rattled or nervous. The sign of a real pro. That on-board radar is so important to have.
Just got Jasons' book last night and 3/4 way through it now this morning... Thank you for taking US along with you on your journeys... love this... Listening to you on comm is helping me to understand it more clearly... big help... TY!!!!
Steveo.....great job producing this video! You seemed to be a bit more chatty on this flight which effectively conveyed to the viewer just how challenging single pilot flying of a complex aircraft can be when dealing with weather and busy airspace. Enjoyed the panel scans too. One of my favorites videos indeed!
Many years ago when my grandparents were alive they lived on Clairmont Ter. directly under the landing path of runways 3L and 3R. I loved to watch the low flying planes fly above the house throughout the years we visited every summer and Christmas from the late 70s to the early 90s until they moved out to Stone Mountain. I always enjoyed it when they took us to the 57th fighter group restaurant at the airport and we could listen to the ATC. Good memories.
A lovely piece of equipment you are flying there with great confidence Stevo. Reminded me of my own experience flying SP IFR ops on commuter services in C402B aircraft in Australia. Many with long water crossings day and night and no Wx radar. Sounds nuts compared with todays equipment. Lovely aircraft that TBM.

@Chris Machaj I fly FL300/310 on every single leg. It adds a lot in terms of fuel efficiency and weather avoidance. The TBM has airliner dispatch reliability thanks to its altitude capability. TBM is well equipped with systems to handle depressurization, it's not very demanding or dangerous. Both cases were major pilot mistakes and have been incorporated in training. In case you get a pressure warning, you don the mask. You don't start messing with any system on the plane, etc.
@Chris Machaj It is 'slow' if you are on the same departure or arrival route, or worst case, the same J- airway - however, they will simply vector you off it; The Vapp speeds are very similar to most mid-sized airliners. I think you are dissing on the TBM for no reason. Its a fantastic aircraft;

@@user-eo4zt5lw8d Probably a bluetooth gps for the iPad. Even though iPad has GPS I use a different brand. I think it's better for accuracy and battery on the iPad.
@@user-eo4zt5lw8d - It's an ADS-B receiver with built-in GPS. This device supports the ForeFlight aviation app in his iPad.
You make that all look so easy Steveo. I used to hold a ppl in the UK so know the problems weather can cause. Love it keep it up. .. many thanks 👍🏻

What a great video and display of pilot skill while still having fun! You definitely earned at least a $50K bump in base pay! Looking forward to the next video...
Love the close-ups of the instruments
Awesome. That's my airport. Atlanta Approach is pretty good at threading the needle into PDK.
Thanks for the AWESOME video. Really like having you explain all of the procedures you go thru. And the videos of the gauges and screens is top notch....AGAIN THANK YOU.
Florida wx. I flew a B1 for 17 years and I never flew into Florida when there was not TStorms. That 850 looks great fun lots of great features and single pilot friendly.
