oh my goodness!! i always played google doodle games with my friends at lunchtime and we were CRAZY for the lore. we made fanart, did speedruns, wrote fan-fiction, it was so fun!! we havent done it in a while because we got distracted by exams, but the boba game made us insane, i havent watched the full video yet, but i can't wait. i am so attached to these characters it's not even funny.
ok so prepare for an info dump, i've finished watching the video and it was great and i'd like to contribute my initial take-aways from the games: In magic cat academy, I believe that the ghost minibosses are either possessed objects, or have beaten up the staff and have taken their accessories. I have come to this assumption from the beaten up state of the librarian's glasses, and the mustache on the gym boss being knocked off at the end of the fight. this might not be accurate, but it's a funny mental image. I also don't think that all ghosts were once evil, I definitely think there might have been a stigma around them due to some ghost's actions, but i think the ghosts at the school might have been just particularly malevolent. Some of the ggd ghosts would shame them FOR SURE. About the ghost selfies in the museum, I don't know why, but i always viewed the GGD as quite an organised sporting event, I think the ghosts have changed colours specifically for the event, and their natural state is that bluey-grey colour. I also thought that they either rented out the locations, or just used them when they were empty (maybe people know to avoid these places on Halloween :P) if it's organised, then it makes sense that they'd have decorations! The idea that it takes place in the far future is super fun! I 'd never thought of it that way before, I just viewed their appearance in the boba game as hanging out as a group, outside of practise! I also have thoughts about Pangolin Love. I have multiple theories explaining the pangolin's appearance in Champion Island: -It's a completely different pangolin, maybe related? (maybe the two original pangolin's kid 👀?) -the pangolins broke up :( -Pangolin Love takes place later in the timeline, things didn't work out between the pangolin and their Champion Island love interest. Personally, I enjoy the last (and maybe the first) theory the most, because Pangolin Love is such a cute game, and their love for each other seems really cute and genuine. Additionally, I remember seeing somewhere that The Fox had another appearance. I can't remember off the top of my head, but i think it was a gmail theme? or something similar? it changed over time, so the fox did different activities. But sadly I think it's no longer available. This was such a good video! I gasped when it came up in my recommended, it's everything I could ask for in a video, I love these characters so much. If I remember anything else about the characters or my theories, I'll be sure to comment

Another random thing you missed in the golden retriever in magic cat academy: In the global candy cup, in red's profile, it stated that she loved golden retrievers. So, my theory is that the golden retriever in magic cat academy is actually red's dog. This would also make sense because when momo completed level 5 in magic cat academy, the golden retriever was the most eager to have her back, and this could be because they knew each other since the global candy cup. And also, in the animated short, momo is dressed as a yellow witch, probably coming from magic cat doodle.
The idea of Momo and Lucky traveling the world together because they're dating sounds so cute to me! Think about it, they even go back to the island where they first met.
I like how in the panipuri doodle, Momo and Lucky are looking directly at your game, instead of looking at the cashier, which all the human people are doing. I cant tell if froggy is doing the same, but seeing how he is also facing you, it is very possible. Either way, it just further proves the fact that Momo and Lucky are aware that they are in a game.
Well, yeah, that’s the secret side quest in champion island’s ending. They both talk about how they love playing each other’s game, and then realize that means that they are controlling each other, then just don’t mention it again.
Tbh google doodles are something that makes every single day special in a way, especially when it comes to holidays and stuff. It wont be a day without seeing a silly doodle in your browser, followed by a little game to play!
Dude, I still think the May 2010 Pac-Man Google Doodle is my absolute favorite of all time...Hands down, anything after that I didn't bother with it....I did try believe it or not entered into the competition of Google Doodle, but pretty much lost to it three times every year...I guess my creativity of inserting my characters into a metropolis fictional world of Google/New York probably didn't interest the company in any way shape or form...So there's that to consider. And I did it back in 2009 - 2011...Never entered into it again ever since.
My theory is that since Halloween is a holiday and holiday means no school, the ghost would have the entire school for themselves temporarily, plus spookify the place to go on theme. It means that the school ain't completely abandoned but in a state of renting it for the entire night so TGGD would have their venue. Little thing that i notice

Considering that Momo was somehow able to get her paws on this "Master Spellbook" at the beginning of the game, which is presumably some artifact of incredible power, despite being a freshman... The idea that she has a connection to the owner might actually have some relevance.
The music for the Doodle Champions game was all composed by Qumu! The amount of detail that went into the Doodle Champion Island Games is exquisite. The Stone Guardians that Lucky meet when she arrives on the island are based on Komainu, which are lion-dogs that traditionally guard the entrance or gate of a Shinto shrine to ward off evil spirits. Tengu are originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey and a monkey deity, but the table tennis champ is Sōjōbō who is the king of the Tengu. Yoichi is from an epic called The Tale of the Heike, and during the Battle of Yashima in 1185, the enemy Taira placed a fan atop a pole on one of their ships, daring the Minamoto warriors to shoot it off. Sitting atop his mount in the waves, his target atop the ship rocking as well, Nasu nevertheless shot it down with only one shot. Kijimuna are child-like woodland creatures native to Okinawa who live in trees, especially banyan trees like the one on the beach! Theory: the dog in momo's class is probably connected to the blue witch because the blue witch is said that she likes golden retrievers, and the dog in the class is a golden retriever. 2nd Theory: the book that Momo had was probably something like time travel or universe jumping (which is more obvious) and the ghost try to protect it from Momo so she doesn't universe jump or time travel, or whatever. Edit: 3rd theory the fox owns the Boba shop in Boba tea doodle might be the father of the fox character in earth day doodle. 2nd Edit: 4th Theory: the reason why we in counter the ghosts in the Boba game is because they are in the table tennis area in champion island like he said in the video, but I can back this up, the reason we they are there is because the area is abandoned, because if you talk a NPC it can confirm that the place is abandoned and that the guy who owns the Boba shop knows that it is abandoned he just set it up near the entrance to the table tennis area so he can get more customers, but since he set it up near an abandoned place, the ghosts came up to him.

I have a theory that if Momo is not the owner of the Academy and is a freshman who has a connection to the owner, the owner could be Green Witch from WCC. Although the witch didn't win the Cup, her answer in the "If she wins..." question was "I'll start a collection of ancient manuscripts." And that ancient book used by the ghost in Magic Cat Academy (aside from other potential books) could be ancient manuscripts as well. Maybe the Green Witch was Friends with the Yellow Witch? I'm not too sure, but it's fun to think about!
I love the fact that they're an entire Discord server community dedicated to a Google Doodle. :) Its also fascinating how the Yellow Witch won... Since not only is she a cat lover, and people like cats, but also of the four witches she's the one with the most stereotypically "cute" traits. The color yellow is most commonly affiliated with happiness as well. From a psychological perspective its very interesting.
I loved the Doodle Island games and I did notice the frog in most of them. Momo and Lucky being travelling girlfriends would be amazing. I had even started a drawing with Lucky practicing magic at the Magic Cat Academy

Okay, here's my piecing together of the lore: Humans, ghosts and animals live together in this world, but probably have different origins, with their own countries and territories. At some point, Ghosts waged war. As we can see, ghosts were antagonistic both in the Candy Cup and the Magic Cat Academy Games. The turning point of this war was Magic Cat Academy 1, where in the warmongering leader of the ghosts launched an attack on the institution and absorbs the power of the magic spell book, which is apparently a very strong artifact of magical power. Or perhaps it contained magical knowledge required by the ghost boss to attain his ultimate goal? At the end of the series of events that happen in the games, we see that the Ghost forces have completely been defeated. This makes Momo the Cat a War Hero and also gives her massive Ghost PTSD. By the time we reach Jinx's Night Out, it's been a solid few years until the Ghost Wars ended. Ghosts still immigrate to the Human and Animal territories but are often faced with discrimination and fear (since well, they're ghosts!). Ghosts also just naturally like grimy and run down places, which explains why Jinx lives in such a weird house. Additionally, I think Jinx and the evil Ghost boss are related in some way, since Jinx just has a picture lying around (which he doesn't seem to like) Somewhere between that, Champion Island happens. It's a yearly event organized on an animal nation. It exists near the seams of reality, so various memories and events exist as videogames and other forms of medias. This is also why leaving Champion Island erases all memories of it. They fade away into various forms of media. Momo at some point probably after graduating, moved to this island to lead a peaceful life, getting a job as the local Trophy Master. During these games, we follow Lucky, who quickly becomes the grand champion on the island, and eventually discovers Momo's mysterious magic portal where she has surprisingly been playing the memories of Lucky who has played the memories of Momo. Here they bond over this and either date or become good friends as shown in the Boba Tea Doodle. I err more on the dating side because-
I’m glad to learn a lot of the lore behind Google. I always enjoy looking into googles world and the art that shows this team loves to create something wonderful and simple to look at. It’s wonderful to know they archived their work so we can revisit or explore what they’ve created over the years. Especially when something comes along and the next day you go to the page and it’s gone. It also makes me think of sites like Nick when they make cool events games or shorts just to stop working or removed over time. This was such a cool video! I really enjoyed it. I had an idea on how in some doodles we see worlds almost completely full of non-human/animal characters and others where the animal characters are featured alongside humans like in pani puri. What if there are two separate worlds, our world and the doodle world. The doodle world (or possibly worlds) contains all of the characters featured in google doodles as well as locations like the magic cat academy and champion island. In terms of how characters travel between the worlds I have two separate ideas; Idea #1 all doodle characters can travel freely between doodle worlds and they real world, in some cases breaking the fourth wall like on champion island. Idea #2 the only characters that can travel freely between the doodle worlds and our world are Momo and her friends thanks to Momo’s Spell book. That’s why we see characters like Froggie and Lucky reoccurring alongside Momo so often and also how we can see them interacting with humans outside of the doodle worlds and in the real world.

Cool video! A couple things: That’s Miguel in the boat with Lucky. The Smart Kappa is just an unathletic Kappa with nothing else special about him. But otherwise holy crap you got EVERYTHING. As someone who’s familiar with all the doodles and knew most of this stuff, it was interesting seeing every single bit of it covered. Great job

definitely knew there was gonna be something going on lore-wise when I saw that Lucky and Momo were together in the boba tea doodle (so happy for them :D), so I'm happy to get a video connecting all the dots so far, and excited to see how the story develops.
I'll admit I'm somewhat suspicious of the idea that the boba tea game SPECIFICALLY takes place on the Champion Island. Mostly because I feel as though it could just as easily been any bamboo forest aesthetic that the devs didn't think about. Though the similarities are interesting
Oh dear, here we go again! A video essay, from a small channel, it's gonna BLOW UP. I respect people who do these. I just can't fathom what they could've went through making these videos, must be a long process.
This gave me so much nostalgia! I remember playing champion island during my online classes when I was bored. I was really happy to see my team(red) win!
I think the reason we don't see the yellow witch anymore is because after Momo gained sentience she went off to college where the events of the magic cat academy 1 & 2 happen. after that occurs Momo becomes famous which is why she gets games and an anthology in her likeness as seen in the Champion Island Games. I don't think all ghosts are evil, just that one ghost who wanted the spell book and the group that followed them. considering that there is a gym coach and a librarian among them, they could be plotting revenge against the school for whatever reason. The reason Momo is afraid of Jinx is she has PTSD or something and the reason Jinx has all those photos of evil ghosts could be either they were one of the evil ghosts' army OR the evil ghosts became popular which would make sense with this theory seeing as Momo herself would be popular if they made a game after her. Momo probably starts travelling the world at this point because Jinx's Night out seems to be in a wildly different location than the school. Weather Frog and Fox follow suit because they're all friends. this eventually takes them to the Champion Island where Momo and co. seem to settle down (although the fox is missing) and there she meets Lucky and they fall for each other. Considering the frog is with a different person in the pani puri game we can assume that you lose memory after you leave Champion Island, but lucky and Momo are still together. Maybe they fell for each other again or maybe the frog is just in line with a different person and they found a way to leave and keep their memories of Champion Island. the fact that champion island is also a video game probably means the latter option is true. Considering we don't see the fox in this game either, we can assume they parted with Froggy and Momo sometime between Champion island and Jinx's night out.
I've always wanted to see someone cover this, these games have always had a charm to them! The 2016 one was the first one I played and played it over and over again. and was delighted to see its' sequel! The 2018 one was another one I liked, though I do wonder how many were actually bots...

I like it so much I set up games for the whole school (my friends mostly) during lunch. The team I was on would always win. it was so much fun

hands down phenomenal video. i didn't know i needed 1 hour of my life to be wasted by a video essay about something i didn't even know was a thing (i'd only played the first Magic Cat Academy and was completely unaware of everything else or any lore whatsoever), but honestly, i'm genuinely super interested in these characters, in the lore, in the google doodles, and in Momo and Lucky's hopefully-relationship (they'd be so adorable together) I hope some employees of Google see this video and realize that they totally could tie all these characters into an even more massive web of lore and force you to make a sequel because honestly? i absolutely Love this video and will be subscribing to your channel. thank you for the amazing video!! my input is i don't think the Great Ghoul Duel games need to be that far into the future, the Momo presumably-merchandise could be as little as a few years after the events of the Magic Cat Academies if Momo got enough press coverage to wow and inspire the world. this could be backed up if the ghosts from the Great Ghoul Duels were also in the boba tea one. relatedly, I wonder if the ghost antagonists in the Magic Cat Academies were just outliers in their meanness, and instead most ghosts are just fine, as opposed to (at least what i interpreted as) your theory where the ghosts were all mean but reformed later. there could be some discrimination attached to it: some ghosts took over a school, stole an important thing, and tried to drown a cat, and maybe it made global headlines, inspired Momo fan stuff in the Great Ghoul Duels, and made ghosts seem scary for everyone despite the fact they're jus chillin

Haven’t watched the whole video yet, but I love google doodle games so much! They’re sweet and wholesome bite-sized little games. I play the ghost duel and cat academy games every year on Halloween as my own little tradition, but I honestly can’t pick a favourite between any of the games. The art style is always lovely, the music is always catchy, and the characters are always endearing. It’s so cool that you decided to do a recap of them!

In the valentines doodle 2024. When you get all the 18 bonds you get a picture. In the picture there is a box shaped like a heart and in the box there is a cat and whch looks oddly similair to Lucky.

Good video! I’ve been obsessed with DCIG myself and I was very pleasantly surprised to find Lucky in the Boba Tea doodle! Also, I think the reason why the Green Team ghosts aren’t green yet could be because they’re not ‘evil’ ghosts anymore, and are more like Jinx in the fact that they’re friendly. Or perhaps eventually they turn evil or something idk.

One thing I'm surprised wasn't pointed out is that the golden retriever character in the magic cat academy games is the only one wearing a visible shirt, being in the color blue. This could definitely be a reference to how Blue the witch loves golden retrievers. Not really important to the lore but I just thought it was a neat little detail

I'm very excited for this year's Halloween google doodle! I really enjoyed this video, I didn't know about a lot of this stuff. I remember playing Champion Islands during history class instead of doing work, and it's a really enjoyable memory for me. Also, Lucky and Momo are adorable and I love them
For 6:10 It would’ve add a bit of urgency to save the school and the fellow teachers and students there, that it would’ve been a noice joke at the top of my head where at the end of the game, everyone is congratulating Momo for saving the school while there’ll be one student who’s unhappy and prefers the school to be teared down It would’ve been funny and the action would feel captivating
Something my sister helped point out about the dog from MCA is that they both bear the resemblance to a golden retriever AND have a blue undershirt, possibly being the blue witch's pet? Seems like a very neat coincidence otherwise
I think the design similarities between Momo and the spider ref are important to note as well. It's possible Momo used her magic to transform herself into a spider so she wouldn't scare the ghosts

A thought about the discolored versions of the ghosts: Maybe it's like a uniform/kit for that team. Like how in association football, all of the players on one team all wear the same clothes. I think it's nice to imagine that Lucky & Momo are dating as well. :)

oh my goodness!! i always played google doodle games with my friends at lunchtime and we were CRAZY for the lore. we made fanart, did speedruns, wrote fan-fiction, it was so fun!! we havent done it in a while because we got distracted by exams, but the boba game made us insane, i havent watched the full video yet, but i can't wait. i am so attached to these characters it's not even funny.

ok so prepare for an info dump, i've finished watching the video and it was great and i'd like to contribute my initial take-aways from the games:
In magic cat academy, I believe that the ghost minibosses are either possessed objects, or have beaten up the staff and have taken their accessories. I have come to this assumption from the beaten up state of the librarian's glasses, and the mustache on the gym boss being knocked off at the end of the fight. this might not be accurate, but it's a funny mental image.
I also don't think that all ghosts were once evil, I definitely think there might have been a stigma around them due to some ghost's actions, but i think the ghosts at the school might have been just particularly malevolent. Some of the ggd ghosts would shame them FOR SURE.
About the ghost selfies in the museum, I don't know why, but i always viewed the GGD as quite an organised sporting event, I think the ghosts have changed colours specifically for the event, and their natural state is that bluey-grey colour.
I also thought that they either rented out the locations, or just used them when they were empty (maybe people know to avoid these places on Halloween :P) if it's organised, then it makes sense that they'd have decorations! The idea that it takes place in the far future is super fun! I 'd never thought of it that way before, I just viewed their appearance in the boba game as hanging out as a group, outside of practise!
I also have thoughts about Pangolin Love.
I have multiple theories explaining the pangolin's appearance in Champion Island:
-It's a completely different pangolin, maybe related? (maybe the two original pangolin's kid 👀?)
-the pangolins broke up :(
-Pangolin Love takes place later in the timeline, things didn't work out between the pangolin and their Champion Island love interest.
Personally, I enjoy the last (and maybe the first) theory the most, because Pangolin Love is such a cute game, and their love for each other seems really cute and genuine.
Additionally, I remember seeing somewhere that The Fox had another appearance. I can't remember off the top of my head, but i think it was a gmail theme? or something similar? it changed over time, so the fox did different activities. But sadly I think it's no longer available.

Another random thing you missed in the golden retriever in magic cat academy:
In the global candy cup, in red's profile, it stated that she loved golden retrievers. So, my theory is that the golden retriever in magic cat academy is actually red's dog. This would also make sense because when momo completed level 5 in magic cat academy, the golden retriever was the most eager to have her back, and this could be because they knew each other since the global candy cup. And also, in the animated short, momo is dressed as a yellow witch, probably coming from magic cat doodle.

I like how in the panipuri doodle, Momo and Lucky are looking directly at your game, instead of looking at the cashier, which all the human people are doing. I cant tell if froggy is doing the same, but seeing how he is also facing you, it is very possible. Either way, it just further proves the fact that Momo and Lucky are aware that they are in a game.

Well, yeah, that’s the secret side quest in champion island’s ending. They both talk about how they love playing each other’s game, and then realize that means that they are controlling each other, then just don’t mention it again.
Tbh google doodles are something that makes every single day special in a way, especially when it comes to holidays and stuff. It wont be a day without seeing a silly doodle in your browser, followed by a little game to play!
Dude, I still think the May 2010 Pac-Man Google Doodle is my absolute favorite of all time...Hands down, anything after that I didn't bother with it....I did try believe it or not entered into the competition of Google Doodle, but pretty much lost to it three times every year...I guess my creativity of inserting my characters into a metropolis fictional world of Google/New York probably didn't interest the company in any way shape or form...So there's that to consider. And I did it back in 2009 - 2011...Never entered into it again ever since.

My theory is that since Halloween is a holiday and holiday means no school, the ghost would have the entire school for themselves temporarily, plus spookify the place to go on theme. It means that the school ain't completely abandoned but in a state of renting it for the entire night so TGGD would have their venue. Little thing that i notice

The music for the Doodle Champions game was all composed by Qumu! The amount of detail that went into the Doodle Champion Island Games is exquisite. The Stone Guardians that Lucky meet when she arrives on the island are based on Komainu, which are lion-dogs that traditionally guard the entrance or gate of a Shinto shrine to ward off evil spirits. Tengu are originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey and a monkey deity, but the table tennis champ is Sōjōbō who is the king of the Tengu. Yoichi is from an epic called The Tale of the Heike, and during the Battle of Yashima in 1185, the enemy Taira placed a fan atop a pole on one of their ships, daring the Minamoto warriors to shoot it off. Theory: the dog in momo's class is probably connected to the blue witch because the blue witch is said that she likes golden retrievers, and the dog in the class is a golden retriever. 2nd Theory: the book that Momo had was probably something like time travel or universe jumping (which is more obvious) and the ghost try to protect it from Momo so she doesn't universe jump or time travel, or whatever. Edit: 3rd theory the fox owns the Boba shop in Boba tea doodle might be the father of the fox character in earth day doodle. 2nd Edit: 4th Theory: the reason why we in counter the ghosts in the Boba game is because they are in the table tennis area in champion island like he said in the video, but I can back this up, the reason we they are there is because the area is abandoned, because if you talk a NPC it can confirm that the place is abandoned and that the guy who owns the Boba shop knows that it is abandoned he just set it up near the entrance to the table tennis area so he can get more customers, but since he set it up near an abandoned place, the ghosts came up to him.

I have a theory that if Momo is not the owner of the Academy and is a freshman who has a connection to the owner, the owner could be Green Witch from WCC. Although the witch didn't win the Cup, her answer in the "If she wins..." question was "I'll start a collection of ancient manuscripts." And that ancient book used by the ghost in Magic Cat Academy (aside from other potential books) could be ancient manuscripts as well. Maybe the Green Witch was Friends with the Yellow Witch? I'm not too sure, but it's fun to think about!

Its also fascinating how the Yellow Witch won... Since not only is she a cat lover, and people like cats, but also of the four witches she's the one with the most stereotypically "cute" traits. The color yellow is most commonly affiliated with happiness as well. From a psychological perspective its very interesting.

Okay, here's my piecing together of the lore: Humans, ghosts and animals live together in this world, but probably have different origins, with their own countries and territories. At some point, Ghosts waged war. As we can see, ghosts were antagonistic both in the Candy Cup and the Magic Cat Academy Games. The turning point of this war was Magic Cat Academy 1, where in the warmongering leader of the ghosts launched an attack on the institution and absorbs the power of the magic spell book, which is apparently a very strong artifact of magical power. Or perhaps it contained magical knowledge required by the ghost boss to attain his ultimate goal?
At the end of the series of events that happen in the games, we see that the Ghost forces have completely been defeated. This makes Momo the Cat a War Hero and also gives her massive Ghost PTSD. By the time we reach Jinx's Night Out, it's been a solid few years until the Ghost Wars ended. Ghosts still immigrate to the Human and Animal territories but are often faced with discrimination and fear (since well, they're ghosts!). Ghosts also just naturally like grimy and run down places, which explains why Jinx lives in such a weird house. Additionally, I think Jinx and the evil Ghost boss are related in some way, since Jinx just has a picture lying around (which he doesn't seem to like)
Somewhere between that, Champion Island happens. It's a yearly event organized on an animal nation. It exists near the seams of reality, so various memories and events exist as videogames and other forms of medias. This is also why leaving Champion Island erases all memories of it. They fade away into various forms of media. Momo at some point probably after graduating, moved to this island to lead a peaceful life, getting a job as the local Trophy Master. During these games, we follow Lucky, who quickly becomes the grand champion on the island, and eventually discovers Momo's mysterious magic portal where she has surprisingly been playing the memories of Lucky who has played the memories of Momo. Here they bond over this and either date or become good friends as shown in the Boba Tea Doodle. I err more on the dating side because-
I’m glad to learn a lot of the lore behind Google. I always enjoy looking into googles world and the art that shows this team loves to create something wonderful and simple to look at. It’s wonderful to know they archived their work so we can revisit or explore what they’ve created over the years. Especially when something comes along and the next day you go to the page and it’s gone. It also makes me think of sites like Nick when they make cool events games or shorts just to stop working or removed over time. This was such a cool video! I really enjoyed it. I had an idea on how in some doodles we see worlds almost completely full of non-human/animal characters and others where the animal characters are featured alongside humans like in pani puri.
What if there are two separate worlds, our world and the doodle world. The doodle world (or possibly worlds) contains all of the characters featured in google doodles as well as locations like the magic cat academy and champion island. In terms of how characters travel between the worlds I have two separate ideas; Idea #1 all doodle characters can travel freely between doodle worlds and they real world, in some cases breaking the fourth wall like on champion island. Idea #2 the only characters that can travel freely between the doodle worlds and our world are Momo and her friends thanks to Momo’s Spell book. That’s why we see characters like Froggie and Lucky reoccurring alongside Momo so often and also how we can see them interacting with humans outside of the doodle worlds and in the real world.

definitely knew there was gonna be something going on lore-wise when I saw that Lucky and Momo were together in the boba tea doodle (so happy for them :D), so I'm happy to get a video connecting all the dots so far, and excited to see how the story develops.

I'll admit I'm somewhat suspicious of the idea that the boba tea game SPECIFICALLY takes place on the Champion Island. Mostly because I feel as though it could just as easily been any bamboo forest aesthetic that the devs didn't think about. Though the similarities are interesting

Oh dear, here we go again! A video essay, from a small channel, it's gonna BLOW UP. I respect people who do these. I just can't fathom what they could've went through making these videos, must be a long process.
This gave me so much nostalgia! I remember playing champion island during my online classes when I was bored. I was really happy to see my team(red) win!
I think the reason we don't see the yellow witch anymore is because after Momo gained sentience she went off to college where the events of the magic cat academy 1 & 2 happen.
after that occurs Momo becomes famous which is why she gets games and an anthology in her likeness as seen in the Champion Island Games. I don't think all ghosts are evil, just that one ghost who wanted the spell book and the group that followed them. considering that there is a gym coach and a librarian among them, they could be plotting revenge against the school for whatever reason. The reason Momo is afraid of Jinx is she has PTSD or something and the reason Jinx has all those photos of evil ghosts could be either they were one of the evil ghosts' army OR the evil ghosts became popular which would make sense with this theory seeing as Momo herself would be popular if they made a game after her.
Momo probably starts travelling the world at this point because Jinx's Night out seems to be in a wildly different location than the school. Weather Frog and Fox follow suit because they're all friends. this eventually takes them to the Champion Island where Momo and co. seem to settle down (although the fox is missing) and there she meets Lucky and they fall for each other. Considering the frog is with a different person in the pani puri game we can assume that you lose memory after you leave Champion Island, but lucky and Momo are still together. Maybe they fell for each other again or maybe the frog is just in line with a different person and they found a way to leave and keep their memories of Champion Island. the fact that champion island is also a video game probably means the latter option is true. Considering we don't see the fox in this game either, we can assume they parted with Froggy and Momo sometime between Champion island and Jinx's night out.
I've always wanted to see someone cover this, these games have always had a charm to them! The 2016 one was the first one I played and played it over and over again. and was delighted to see its' sequel! The 2018 one was another one I liked, though I do wonder how many were actually bots...

hands down phenomenal video. i didn't know i needed 1 hour of my life to be wasted by a video essay about something i didn't even know was a thing (i'd only played the first Magic Cat Academy and was completely unaware of everything else or any lore whatsoever), but honestly, i'm genuinely super interested in these characters, in the lore, in the google doodles, and in Momo and Lucky's hopefully-relationship (they'd be so adorable together)

my input is i don't think the Great Ghoul Duel games need to be that far into the future, the Momo presumably-merchandise could be as little as a few years after the events of the Magic Cat Academies if Momo got enough press coverage to wow and inspire the world. this could be backed up if the ghosts from the Great Ghoul Duels were also in the boba tea one.
relatedly, I wonder if the ghost antagonists in the Magic Cat Academies were just outliers in their meanness, and instead most ghosts are just fine, as opposed to (at least what i interpreted as) your theory where the ghosts were all mean but reformed later. there could be some discrimination attached to it: some ghosts took over a school, stole an important thing, and tried to drown a cat, and maybe it made global headlines, inspired Momo fan stuff in the Great Ghoul Duels, and made ghosts seem scary for everyone despite the fact they're jus chillin

Haven’t watched the whole video yet, but I love google doodle games so much! They’re sweet and wholesome bite-sized little games. I play the ghost duel and cat academy games every year on Halloween as my own little tradition, but I honestly can’t pick a favourite between any of the games. The art style is always lovely, the music is always catchy, and the characters are always endearing. It’s so cool that you decided to do a recap of them!

In the valentines doodle 2024. When you get all the 18 bonds you get a picture. In the picture there is a box shaped like a heart and in the box there is a cat and whch looks oddly similair to Lucky.

I love Halloween google doodles. It's always fun to visit google each year to see what they have prepared on october 31st. Kinda sad that the doodles don't show in some countries for seemingly no reason though...
i noticed this a while ago with the olympics' cat and the weather frog being in the boba game!! but i never thought there was more extended lore other than cameos

Good video! I’ve been obsessed with DCIG myself and I was very pleasantly surprised to find Lucky in the Boba Tea doodle!
Also, I think the reason why the Green Team ghosts aren’t green yet could be because they’re not ‘evil’ ghosts anymore, and are more like Jinx in the fact that they’re friendly. Or perhaps eventually they turn evil or something idk.
Absolutely loved this video! Lol I remember playing some of these games at my school, specifically having so much nostalgia for the 2018 Halloween one. I had absolutely no idea they made a second one. I wish I played it when it was around :(
One thing I'm surprised wasn't pointed out is that the golden retriever character in the magic cat academy games is the only one wearing a visible shirt, being in the color blue. This could definitely be a reference to how Blue the witch loves golden retrievers. Not really important to the lore but I just thought it was a neat little detail

I'm very excited for this year's Halloween google doodle! I really enjoyed this video, I didn't know about a lot of this stuff. I remember playing Champion Islands during history class instead of doing work, and it's a really enjoyable memory for me. Also, Lucky and Momo are adorable and I love them

It would’ve add a bit of urgency to save the school and the fellow teachers and students there, that it would’ve been a noice joke at the top of my head where at the end of the game, everyone is congratulating Momo for saving the school while there’ll be one student who’s unhappy and prefers the school to be teared down

Something my sister helped point out about the dog from MCA is that they both bear the resemblance to a golden retriever AND have a blue undershirt, possibly being the blue witch's pet? Seems like a very neat coincidence otherwise

I think the design similarities between Momo and the spider ref are important to note as well. It's possible Momo used her magic to transform herself into a spider so she wouldn't scare the ghosts
