Just watch the original! Watching this stuff just gives encouragement to these people!
"just a little woke" is like "just a little turd" in the soup - hard pass
all his other shoes are great. i’m sure this will be too
@@user-jz8ev7iv7g bro what would you even care about that? How is that “little bit of woke” enough to make you pass on something? It doesn’t change at all the quality of the story and the show itself. Having that criteria to pass on things is just insane
Really enjoyed the original, especially the late Raul Julia's performance. Yes, it was a great cast with Harrison Ford, Bonnie Bedelia, Brian Dennehy, Paul Winfield, and John Spencer all turning in good performances, but Julia made the movie for me.
Raul Julia is great in the original. He was very fun to watch even in bad films.
Alan Ng’s assessment here sucks. I’m all for calling out OTT woke messaging assaults in what we watch, but this review is an oversimplification and just inaccurate. My blood boils at the trend of “men bad, women good” that’s dominating film and TV, but to say that’s in effect here is misleading. Rusty’s lawyer, the new DA, and the bartender Ruth Nega is feeling an attraction to are all male characters with positive qualities and dimension. The character of the murdered ADA is FAR from being portrayed as a perfect princess, including the prominent plot point that she cut her son out of her life. Ruth Nega’s character is also in no way the dreaded Mary Sue archetype (which I hate with a passion), struggling with her own feelings and needing to be told by her boss that she’s sucking at her job currently. Saying this is a show bowing to the “men bad” trend is just faulty reasoning. The character (as written in the book) cheated on his wife and risked losing his family. It isn’t woke propaganda to say a guy like that has some personal work to do. And, again, as obnoxious as I can find the deliberate pushing of an agenda in the stuff we watch, a thirty second scene that alludes to the FACT that black kids are in more danger of a fatal interaction with law enforcement is not Disney level woke propaganda. Do a better job calling shows for what they are. This show is not perfect, but it ain’t propaganda
This clip should have been titled “Presumed Woke”
"spend millions to make pennies"
fed reserve will dish out another 5 trillion if needed
IP mining is profitable, but has diminishing returns. There are only soo many IPs and over saturation is killing Hollywood.
It’s Apple TV+ so of course it’s woke. Thanks for the warning
Actually there is very little woke in their shows.
@@MrColinHostileyeah, I’m confused by that comment. Tells me this person has no independent thought in his head
@@MrColinHostile Literally every show has a lesbian couple thrown in there or girl bosses.Monarch legacy of monsters focuses one episode almost entirely on a lesbian couple
@@Chopperwocky Depends if those things are implemented propagandistically or not. But i do agree they are usually super woke and like this show make all the men bad/stupid and the women genuises/paragons of virtue.
@@MrColinHostile Ted Lasso 2 & 3 are woke af.
Harrison Ford Film Far Superior!
Raul Julia alone is worth watching the movie for.
Chris... I hope that you brought enough popcorn for everyone 🤔
I have the original movie and book. It's a classic!!
Hmmm. I think I have to disagree with you, Alan. I've watched all six episodes (so far) and the two main female characters have moral struggles. The murdered ADA, Carolyn, struggled to figure out how to end an affair with a married man, to whom she always gave into, right up until the night she was killed. Barbara, the wife, is in a constant struggle to stick by Rusty (the ADA who had the affair and is on trial for murder) for the sake of keeping her family together but also is tempted to have an tit-for-tat affair. So these female characters are not perfectly virtuous, but struggle with real moral quandaries. I think after so many years, your "woke" radars are so highly sensitive at this point that you're starting to nitpick flaws that ten years ago wouldn't even be noticed. Personally, I find the series entertaining and interesting, well written and directed.
Yes, sensitive woke radars cause Woke did not exist 10 years ago like it does now. Agree.
Wait until he finds out what’s the sex of the murderer lmao
Try to rewatch it now knowing who the killer is and the characters' behaviors in the early episodes make absolutely no sense.
@@daveclark8337 how don't they make sense?
@@daveclark8337 I never read Turow's book or watched the Harrison Ford film, so I was pretty much a blank slate going into the conclusion. I'll admit that the "our daughter's a murderer, lets pretend it never happened and live happily ever after" was not very satisfying and Carolyn deliberately provoking the daughter with the "I'm pregnant and keeping it" was a pretty stupid move. Also, I thought the DA's closing argument was pretty damning. If I was on the jury I would've thought Rusty was guilty, which would've made a more dramatic and satisfying ending, with Rusty going to prison to protect his daughter.
We’ve gotten to the point women can ONLY be saintly heroes or tragic victims in media. Why? Because those poor fragile dears couldn’t handle something as sexist as…giving them complex characteristics!
Why do y’all keep saying this show makes women saintly heroes? Doesn’t the very victim (whose murder case is the central point of the whole show) get in bed with a man knowing damn well he’s married and has children? Didn’t she abandon and neglect her child and her ex-husband? Didn’t Rusty’s wife cheat on him with a bartender? Didn’t Lorraine treat Rusty as a criminal and tried to put his wife against him without any evidence? Wasn’t the murderer literally a WOMAN?
Y’all just be saying anything holy shit
The killer was a female pyscho killer. That's pretty complex...in my opinion.
Woke…to be aware of unconscious bias and discrimination resulting in people with less opportunities. That is what the term “woke” means. Rage baiters on RUclips use it as a synonym for “I don’t like it”.
The movie is amazing, it holds up great!
the only thing worse than a woke project is a woke project made specifically to win awards.
Shame because the concept of hammering the importance of innocent until proven guilty is a message that really needs to be told today, especially where the moment a man is accused of anything remotely “sexual” or “misogynistic”, he’s instantly assumed guilty by the public, and even if proven innocent his reputation is over.
@@lawrencetalbot8346 how does the show not show the importance of the concept of innocent until proven guilty? It does that from the very beginning, constantly showing the difference between hard, physical evidence and circumstantial evidence, and defending one’s innocent instead of accepting guilty pleas to get a deal. He the verdict was not guilty because of it
@@eduardolujanl I never said it didn’t. I am saying this message is very important in todays social climate instead trying to push woke nonsense/win DEI awards
@@lawrencetalbot8346 but how exactly does this show push "woke nonsense" any more than it does the importance of presumption of innocence?
Enjoying the series so far, going to give it a try with Apple TV + I am hoping they just focus on good stories.
Raul Julia was great in the movie.Really good movie too.
The 4th episode is written by David E Kelly though
The da who was killed was not a totally good person. She literally withheld dna evidence in a previous trial.
Thumbnail looks like Steve Carell from the Office in an alternate universe.
Him needed a diversity hired sensitivity reader/DEI consultant "writer" to propagadize the racial episode in line with "THE MESSAGE" is a hard pass for me.
Bro what the hell are you talking about
I personally didn’t read the show as being defensive of the murdered woman, i thought the flashbacks painted her to be manipulative and possibly even dangerous. Interesting take though.
He needed that other writer for that one line addressing race, which only needs addressing because they race swapped, which was only necessary because its on appletv. Which also means every character has to be in therapy, I've noticed..
I didn’t like The Morning Show. I stopped watching after the first season. Bad writing and terrible casting.
Ive been watching, think im on ep 5, its been pretty gd so far. the scenes to justify the wife wanting to have a revenge shag were brutal and added nothing to the story but dislike for a great char up to that point. The other wemen in her life kind of egg her on with a bizarre after what youve been through who would blame you rational. I think ruth is a gd actress, was great in love and death.
She also hides evidence and endangers the case.
I wish people would learn the definition of the word "woke". 🙄
taika watititi’s pirate show was amazing
Loved that show!
Also... you know Alan, I think you need to watch the 1990 movie again lol. I mean, it's fine as a Harrison Ford movie in the year 1990, but there is a lot to like in the new version compared to some of the things that aren't that great in the 1990 movie.
If someone forgot their son is black wouldn't that be a compliment? So the moral lesson is to be the right kind of racist.
Bro what? What are you even saying
Read the book years ago when it first came out, fabulous. Saw the movie, fabulous. The acting in this series is very good, really like all the actors. Yes, it's a Bit woke. Read the book and then watch the movie.
The female lawyer that was killed as the appearance of being good on the surface. But she actually seems selfish and career driven, to the point she knowingly hides evidence and goes forward with prosecuting a man that probably was innocent. She knowingly continued an affair with another woman's husband. So, in my opinion, she was not all that great of a person. I'm not saying that she deserved to be murdered. But as a woman, I agree that appears to be a "good" honest driven lawyer, but she's was really selfish and not an honest person.
I like seeing Chris eating pop-corn
The show felt like such an exhausting marathon that (having not seen the OG), I didn’t even care that much about the verdict at the end, & what came after that was just ridiculous. Love Jake G & Bill Camp, but honestly, not worth the $$.
If you read the book or saw the movie, the Apple series is a disappointment. They cut a whole lot of the story, politics, court drama and plotline even though it's 8 hours long. The audience never gets to know who Carolyn was and /or why all those people may have had a reason to kill her. And then they changed the ending for no good or plausible reason.
The women do have flaws, Alan. The wife contemplates having an affair and almost does, for revenge or just some escape from the situation or whatever. And of course the victim was also in the affair, she's not blameless for that. And those are the two main women in the show I think?
What until he finds what the sex of the murderer is lool
No interest, I'm good with the movie starring Harrison Ford from the early 90s.
The Greta character in the book/movie is like a Kamala Harris type only highly intelligent
I skipped Jakes career. I like his sister, but she never upped her game. I don’t have any interest in this. Does Jake even have a fan base?
Watch Nightcrawler. It's his best movie
he’s a good actor but i agree his recent movies have been hit and miss, some of his older ones like prisoners, end of watch, zodiac, source code are good
@@clockworkman8210 Lord he was great in Prisoners
@@lighthousefilms5530 well everyone was great in that movie, but you still have to be a good actor to pull it off. one of villeneuve best imo
@clockworkman8210 Absolutely. I think Dune Part 2 is his Magnum Opus but objectively Prisoners has to be his best. One of the best thrillers of the last two decades.
Yeah but his harrison ford in it
I am watching it and I make a highly risky prediction...they chenged the outcome and the identity of the killer, compared to who it was in the old movie (that I saw as well).
I dont think that the series will have the same reveal than the movie had in the end...taking bets here... :DDDD
PS: about the general tone of the series...yeah it's a bit woke as expected by any product in these day and age...but not so much to become unbearable...
I didn't find it overly woke... only noticed it in the first episode. Was a great series. Can't believe this is the show people are picking to hate on 😂 so much worse out there.
Don't watch this crap... watch the original with Harrison Ford
The new chick can't hold a candle to Greta Scacchi.
The worse thing they did in this show was remove Sandy Stern, the Raul Julia character who was the most interesting person on the screen, and replace him with a black woman who didn't really do anything. I have no problem with the race- and gender-switching... if they made the character interesting. But they didn't do that. She was just DEI window dressing, a marginal figure who got very little to do.
6:20 ehhh the wife is pretty flawed and is kind of a pill
Sorry what the hell was that "woke" talk about?! Did you see the end? The women are good? Wtf are you on about? 😅
Good in an OJ kinda way....
I hated the original movie. Within the first twenty minutes, I knew who did it.
this is a perfect example of bad reviews. how is this show woke in any way
I read the book and saw the movie. And I think the show is fantastic. I don’t think it’s woke at all.
The plot was not the catchphrase, …. Wokeness was the catchphrase? This worries me.
Not convinced on the woke definition but it is a bad piece of television. The plot is nonsensical, the inclusion agenda is irritating and the pacing is glacial. Yes the movie is well better.
Super commercial-feeling, like a bad boring low rated NBC series from 1989. Deliver cliché line, punctuate with hilariously cartoonish musical sting.
any ‘woke’ is too much, hard pass for me
Not a single thought in that head of yours huh
@@eduardolujanl oh you dont like it when we think for ourselves?
Go back to your group think with the other woke clowns 😉
Sounds like absolute horsesh**. Watch the original film, it’s brilliant, with a standout performance by the late Raul Julia as the defense attorney. If you just assume everything on Apple + blows, you can skip it all and not miss anything.
Well it’s no horseshit at all. It’s pretty good actually
@@eduardolujanl Oh is it, actually?
@@michaelsegriff3362 yeah it is actually according to the major cinema critics and the general public that watched it
Dark Matter is worth the sub for AppleTV.
Severance is good too, hopefully they don't tank it in Season 2.
Nah.
I'll stick with the movie. This has been green lit for a second season. Apple does great Sci Fi shows. They have loads. I'm with Chris, not watching Time Bandits. What awful crap. It's a reverse trailer, works against it. Like a lot of gatbage these days.
There is a follow up novel but it takes place 20 years later and since they changed the ending that's throws everything off.
Jumps straight to court proceedings, no police interviews or investigations, it made absolutely no sense at all, I gave up half way through, this is terrible show.
Can either of you please clearly define “woke”.
Imagine my shock. Not that I had any intention of watching it, but it obviously has to shoehorn in Current Year politics. I guess he'll be found not guilty because of his white privilege. 🙄
Well you’re wrong bro. That’s what happens when u talk without watching things yourself
@@eduardolujanl 😘
@@emmas4336 ?
The original movie is so much better!
Oh god I couldn't get past the first episode! I love Jake Gylenhaal but this one was a letdown.
