In today’s episode, we had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Dweezil Zappa in his home!
This was rather exciting for me because Dweezil is about to go on tour with what is one of the greatest (almost) instrumental albums of all time!
“Hot Rats” has one guest appearance by Captain Beefheart in "Willie the Pimp."
The tour will Include Dweezil’s band playing the entire "Hot Rats" album in sequence live on stage along with some other songs that are from his father Frank Zappa’s album called “You are what you is”

Didn't see this one coming. It's a busy few weeks for me, but I stop by for a for a PLAP fix, and it's Dweezil. I never saw Frank, but I have see ZpZ a couple of times and I've never known such a glorious tribute, such a perfect reason for bringing the music alive, again. And, Dweezil's considerable work at playing parts that were never guitar parts - some incredible achievement in that, alone. Every Frank Zappa fan should see and hear the album rercreations Dweezil does. The effort is exemplary, the love, apparent. Thanks

I’m so glad you interviewed Dweezil Zappa. I’d seen Frank Zappa several times in the 70’s. My friends and I were all teenage prog-rockers and Zappa was mind blowing in so many ways. The last time I saw Frank play was Halloween, 1977.
The first time I saw Dweezill perform was exactly 30 yrs later to the day. From the opening notes, my jaw dropped and I was treated to a solid 3hrs of Zappa’s incredible music brought to life in a way I’d never have imagined. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing. It must also be said that Dweezil Zappa is one if the finest electric guitar players on the planet, with a team of virtuoso musicians beside him.
I’ve seen Dweezil now, on 6 or 7 tours, when he comes through NY. Each time I try to turn someone new on to a Zappa show. I can’t wait to see them this time around! Thank you Warren.
    Cheers - Tim

That was sooooo inspirational. I love Frank's music and was fortunate enough to hear him live a few times, opened my ears to what is possible in blending musical styles; having George Duke, Ruth and Ian Underwood playing such rocking music. Dweezil is such a wonderful player and hearing him say that Frank could hear something in other's playing that they couldn't hear, and being able to bring that out in them was very touching. Thank you so much Warren. Doing these interviews really helps me in so many ways and I appreciate you and all who work with and for you.

Really appreciated this video. This was the kind of guitar hour, players like me only dream about. Really loved being able to see how Dweezil plays the pieces from Hot Rats, which I have the music book for, but getting valuable information like where about's on the neck Dweezil likes to play the sections and his techniques for vibrato, bends and slides is priceless. Thank you so much for putting this video together I really appreciate it. I've been eyeing off Dweezil's Fractal setup and am hoping to get one of the smaller units. Perhaps I will not be able to do everything Dweezil can with the 3 there but as long as I have the ability to get some of the core Zappa sounds I'd be ecstatic. Hope I can get state side to see one of these shows as Hot Rats is without doubt my all time favorite Frank Zappa album (and yes I own the 128 main releases and more and love each and every album. Hot Rats is just so special because it has such contrast between the pieces and is a real labour of love set of Frank Zappa compositions and it radiates this in the incredible playing featured on the album. It must have been a pain staking album to put together at the time. I've got 3 versions of the album in different formats and all of them have great aspects to offer.)

I saw him Live with "Zappa plays zappa" and it was simply wonderful. He plays way different then frank but that makes everything somehow fresh and i like that he has his own style and does not try to imitate frank

    • @shayneoneill1506
      @shayneoneill1506 5 лет назад

Frank wouldn't have it any other way. Honestly I think in the later half of his career he was a bit bored of his own guitar "sound" and started experimenting with using fireballs like Steve Vai and the like, to give him access to a wider pallette of sounds for his guitar compositions. Frank was Amazing as a guitarist. Dweezil is Amazing. But both in different ways. Franks style is rooted heavily in blues, whereas Dweezil is definately a child of the post eddie van halen era. And its all great.

    •  5 лет назад

@@shayneoneill1506 True :) For me Dweezils solos are more fluent and melodic and franks were rhythmically different, he had more stops, experimented more and it was edgier ... it is hard to describe but i like both for their own reasons :)

I saw Dweezils band last year. Honestly I didn't go in with high expectations. Boy was I wrong. That band was fucking phenomenal, and pulled off even the notoriously hard Black Page *perfectly*. No 'first song sloppyness', nothing. From the first to the last this band just smashed it. I dont know much about Dweezils own compositions, but as a band leader and guitarist he's definately his fathers son. And story has it , he's much nicer to his musicians than frank was lol (Frank was renowned as a harsh bandleader with a very low tolerance for errors)

      Pat,
Stanley Kubrick (/ˈkuːbrɪk/; July 26, 1928 - March 7, 1999) was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is frequently cited as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers in cinematic history. His films, which are mostly adaptations of novels or short stories, cover a wide range of genres, and are noted for their realism, dark humor, unique cinematography, extensive set designs, and evocative use of music.
Kubrick was raised in the Bronx, New York City, and attended William Howard Taft High School from 1941 to 1945. He only received average grades, but displayed a keen interest in literature, photography, and film from a young age, and taught himself all aspects of film production and directing after graduating from high school. After working as a photographer for Look magazine in the late 1940s and early 1950s, he began making short films on a shoestring budget, and made his first major Hollywood film, The Killing, for United Artists in 1956. This was followed by two collaborations with Kirk Douglas, the war picture Paths of Glory (1957) and the historical epic Spartacus (1960). His reputation as a filmmaker in Hollywood grew, and he was approached by Marlon Brando to film what would become One-Eyed Jacks (1961), though Brando eventually decided to direct it himself.
Creative differences arising from his work with Douglas and the film studios, a dislike of the Hollywood industry, and a growing concern about crime in America prompted Kubrick to move to the United Kingdom in 1961, where he spent most of the remainder of his life and career. His home at Childwickbury Manor in Hertfordshire, which he shared with his wife Christiane, became his workplace, where he did his writing, research, editing, and management of production details. This allowed him to have almost complete artistic control over his films, but with the rare advantage of having financial support from major Hollywood studios. His first British productions were two films with Peter Sellers, Lolita (1962) and Dr. Strangelove (1964).
A demanding perfectionist, Kubrick assumed control over most aspects of the filmmaking process, from direction and writing to editing, and took painstaking care with researching his films and staging scenes, working in close coordination with his actors and other collaborators. He often asked for several dozen retakes of the same scene in a movie, which resulted in many conflicts with his casts. Despite the resulting notoriety among actors, many of Kubrick's films broke new ground in cinematography. The scientific realism and innovative special effects of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) were without precedent in the history of cinema, and the film earned him his only personal Oscar, for Best Visual Effects. Steven Spielberg has referred to the film as his generation's "big bang", and it is regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. For the 18th-century period film Barry Lyndon (1975), Kubrick obtained lenses developed by Zeiss for NASA, to film scenes under natural candlelight. With The Shining (1980), he became one of the first directors to make use of a Steadicam for stabilized and fluid tracking shots. While many of Kubrick's films were controversial and initially received mixed reviews upon release-particularly A Clockwork Orange (1971), which Kubrick pulled from circulation in the UK following a mass media frenzy-most were nominated for Oscars, Golden Globes, or BAFTA Awards, and underwent critical reevaluations. His last film, Eyes Wide Shut, was completed shortly before his death in 1999 at the age of 70.

He should use a Line 6 Helix instead of the Axe fx. He’d have amazing models of his pedals onboard too, as well as being able to import Impulse responses. plenty of processing power too.

As far as the "guy in Pennsylvania" with all the keyboards and other gear, I live in Pennsylvania. Would love to offer my assistance if it's logistically feasible. I'm northeast, a few hours above Philadelphia.
