We have plenty of slums in Brazil so it's not shocking to me. What shocks me the is the level dirt that you see everywhere inside the houses. Brazilians keep their poor places clean.

I'm Bulgarian and here we have many similar Roma slums, most of them I'd say are actually worse than what's shown in the video. But I rarely, if ever, go into them, so I can't tell you what life there is like. Some are actually not slums but dirty streets with ugly, faux Baroque houses on 3 floors that lay abandoned while the people are working out west
I'm on a roadtrip right now through Europe, and a couple of weeks ago I drove through Chripan in Stara Zagora region, Bulgaria, to friends with a farm in Izvorovo. Chirpan has one of the biggest Bulgarian slums. I think Plovdiv has the biggest. And I can confirm indeed that it's even worse in Chirpan than the one in this video. Here there are people living in old flats, made of concrete. In Chirpan it was only huts made of wood and scrap metal. It's hard if not impossible to help people that don't want to be helped, and if you try to help them, they respond by ignoring the things you do for them. Which results in even more distance between the Europeans and the Roma. It's an endless cycle of agression against each other.

They worry not about "costs". They are simply having children. And I assure you that if they were clean and well-educated in their families, not the costs would be the problem here, but proper education. In the meanwhile, the "civilized" West willingly sterilize themselves and consider children to be a huge burden and cost becomes an issue. Our grandparents had 9-12 children and had no electricity and no iphones, no TV, no supermarkets, and yet their children did not die of stsrvation. We aa a "modern" society became too materialistic and materialistic societies destroy themselves from within due to their worries of "costs" regarding having children, while throwing away tons of food and spending money on luxury items. Our grandparents were poor, but morally and spiritually sound. It's a sick world we're living... Social media is full of lifestyle marketing, while in reality, we have seen people struggling badly. They don't deserve that, no one either.
Wherever they go they make slums and piles of garbage. If was just Slovakia we could call it racism but when a certain group of people spread across the globe ALWAYS does the same thing and end up in the same way can we say is racism? The same poor hygiene and slum living method is applied BY THEM wherever they go When a ethnic, cultural racial or "religious" group replicates their bad behavior over and over again, in different countries with different histories/culture/race is racism a thing or the problem is them? @RikkiTikkiTavi I totally hear you on this but you picked weird examples. Human life means a lot to Americans? Lol. 1% of ppl in prison, no trying to stop COVID, guns everywhere, expensive for profit healthcare, wars for fun. And to the Swiss? The country run on blood money and exploiting the rest of the world's food and water systems. Maybe Swiss life means a lot to them but clearly not human life in general.
@RikkiTikkiTavi Don't believe it has anything to do with valuing life. A few generations back your family probably had many children because it was expected that some would unfortunately die. Many of these families are living in the same conditions as your grandparents or great grandparents with no running water, no sewer system, no electricity, crowded housing, poor insulation and maybe one heat source. Each family is likely to have children die before the age of 5 from diseases and medical conditions you'll see children die of in the less developed world. These families are also religious and even if they wanted contraception likely couldn't afford most contraception options which is another reason for the amount of children.
@RikkiTikkiTavi You don't just give birth to strong kids. Families had kids and only the strongest survived. Wasn't able to find the average family size in Latvia in English throughout the ages but the recorded infant mortality was still pretty high in the early 1900s so it is very probable that many families would lose at least one if not more children. Many families would not have recorded all births. Many children would not be recorded until families were sure they would survive. epc2016.princeton.edu/papers/160624

@@SnapszDuhh It's not necessarily about wanting to. Part of the problem is the lack of contraception, lack of knowledge on family planning and even about basic concepts such as consent and body autonomy. 'Why would you keep getting pregnant if you are poor?' you ask. Well, because it is often difficult enough for women to talk about being sexually abused, imagine what happens in places like this that aren't policed- hence high numbers of pregnancies and abortions (illegal and dangerous). Another bit is the culture is the pressure of getting married/into relationships at young age and bringing children into family. Boys should be educated about consent and all surrounding issues. Even with family planning education there would still be a lot of pregnancies, but putting things into perspective for these people, it should still make a difference.

You'll lose count if you take note of how many capable men and women were on this video alone, that could work on fixing a lot of their issues, from basic maintenance to getting firewood for those in need, a bit of farming and cleaning. I've been to slums in different parts of the world, and aside of drug and gang dens, people there tend to be very hospitable and have some sense of pride to not let things become as seen in this video.
Or at least attempting to keep their shacks clean. I can imagine how difficult it would be with no electricity or running water or a way to heat that water but still, a little tidiness would go a long way. I'm not judging, I'm only commenting. God bless these people.
@@lzrd8460 i was born in the Soviet Union. When my grandparents were young they had WW2 and the communist invasion and occupation happen. Times were very tough. But that didn't stop them from working hard and trying to improve things, which they eventually manged to do. There is nothing stopping one from at least keeping things clean. You can't let that type of environment become normal. My grandma grev up on a farm without electricity, running water or motor vehicles and somehow they still manged everything.
I think when people visit, they should leave them with rakes, shovels, buckets, etc. Also help them with ways to trap rats. If there are so many rats, then some cats would be useful. Just bring all male cats. Or some terriers. They need a way to deal with the waste/garbage all in one place, maybe by burning. If they can collect rain water and filter & boil it...good. The only means of work I can imagine them getting is entertaining. If anyone knows how to blog, they might be able to get money for the community thru that. In all honesty, a hitman should deal with the guys giving toulene/taulene to the kids.
*TRUE!* It costs very little to buy cleaning detergents, where Romas waste money on gold jewellery, latest mobile phones, largest TV screens, crates of beers, etc. .
Until 2002 we had a HUGE problem with children's toluene addiction in Brazil as well, which was a main component for shoe adhesives that anyone could buy. From 2002 onwards, its commercialization was forbidden and its use was restricted to industrial facilities. That was basically the end of this problem, but of course it was not the end of the major issue: kids without any opportunities or decent living conditions doing drugs to escape from reality.

unfortunately it is still likely very common to lose children under 5 years old.

I know some gypsies that are from romania and bulgaria, they sit in front of supermarkets in vienna where i live and they want to beg the whole day even if a have a job for them. in my neighborhood there are three brothers and every one of them has his "own" supermarket where he sits every day, everything is organized and the money is given to their "boss"

They are neither romanian or bulgarian
I am a Romanian born and raised in Austria and what OP said sadly is true. Most of the times everything is organized and they beg for money the whole day and the boss thing is also kinda true, these bosses provide some places to sleep/hide and live(because they don‘t have legal papers) and yeah that is how they pay him. Also they prefer to beg because they actually make a decent amount of money(for their standards ofc) for just sitting in one place. In the Pandemic they often clean/disinfect your shopping trays and you can give them some money, which actually I find pretty nice.
And yes they are romanian or bulgarian, I hear them talking (and always greet them back) in romanian most of the times haha. But of course there are also people from other countries not just romania or bulgaria. For more info just ask me :)

Girls in places like that are often raped, used and abused, but access to contraception would still reduce the amount of unwanted births. 'Why would you keep getting pregnant if you are poor?' you ask. Well, because it is often difficult enough for women to talk about being sexually abused, imagine what happens in places like this that aren't policed- hence high numbers of pregnancies and abortions (illegal and dangerous).
