Welcome back! Man, I knew people had issues with 19, but I didn't realize it's reputation was so bad that people think it's garbage. The online is apparently unplayable and that's unfortunate, but I had a lot of fun playing through the story mode.
Some tips and quirks for the game: - Level 3's(or C3 as we call them) recharge your barriers. You can also use C3's to force the AI to progress on with the fight. Early game bosses goes Nonspell > Nonspell/Spell, lategame bosses goes Nonspell > Spell > Nonspell/Spell and final bosses are Nonspell/Spell > Nonspell > Spell > Spell > Final Spell. - Reimu is super broken in the game, because she has a broken level 2, make sure to abuse it to the fullest. Marisa is fine if I recall correctly. There's another character in this game that is infamously known for being probably the most broken shot in all of Touhou(other than of course DDC SakuyaA). - Cards are pretty much useless...most of them that is. There are some that's actually very beneficial for both story and PVP mode. - This is gonna be a disappointment to you, but the grape lady is canonically attracted to the final boss of the game. It's a one-sided relationship though, so you still have a chance?👀 EDIT: I don't know when you're coming back, but if you don't. Then oh well.

Welcome back! I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to Touhou discourse, so I was in genuine disbelief when you said people say Touhou 19 was garbage. I really like the music and story of the game and it also features probably the most memorable cast of new characters in a very long time. Touhou 19 isn't my favorite game in the series but it's definitely up there. Maybe my opinion is more positive because I don't really play Touhou for online multiplayer (I did try it, it was unplayable), I play it for the single player story mode. Also I remember Zun saying before the game's release somewhere (I think it was in a Touhou Station) that he focused on the single player aspect, and the multiplayer was more of a bonus, so those were my expectations going into the game. Glad to see that at least you liked the game.
Good to see ya again Kanonical, and ye I think some disappointment stems from the huge anticipation of a smoother touhou 9 experience in the online aspect, which uhhhhh lol BUT like you said the story mode is plenty fun to me so far so I'm happy
Ok so to sum up odoalg's ganeplay simply: Shooting down enemies sends this purple circle around them to damage other enemies. This is for chaining. Taking down enemies summons spirits on your opponent's side, fires those pellets from the top of the screen, and also creates ex attacks (which are character specific.) Holding x pulls up your scope (blue aura, character specific), which slows down bullets, pacifies/quells/other terminology's spirits (makes them stop and become more vulnerable to attack), and makes them drop meter (purple thingies, also dropped from enemies and grazing). Meter fills up your gauge (at the bottom of the screen, blue is the filled part of the gauge), which lets you use your charge attacks. C1 fires an attack, c2 is either a souped up version of your c1 or unique, c3 fires a souped up version of your ex attack, and c4 summons a boss. You can get free c3s and c4s by killing lots of spirits at once. C3s and c4s level up as you use them, but not if you get them for free. Press c to use a spirit strike (bomb). These will be in the same shape as your scope. The mod junowen is used for netplay since it's real good. -I probably have nothing more to say- nevermind Reimu and a certain new character are broken. You have a barrier that recharges when you use c3/c4s or when you die. If you use a c4 while your boss is up, you'll automatically use a c3 instead.

Hey there. Just wanted to say I absolutely love Touhou and your videos really make them enjoyable to experience. I am awful at the games so I only really watch videos. And yours are the best to watch imo.
I think this game could have been great if the characters were properly balanced, the online was fixed and if not so much stuff was missing (Score, Replays, Extra Stage) Also i wanna say that the boss sprites are beautiful. Besides that, welcome back! You look like a GTA antagonist now
