The sadness in he voice when she sings "I killed the only man I love" Is overwhelming... and SO beautiful. This song is absolutely perfect.... As is the video.
This is an exceptionally cool take on a classic!
This music is dope. Just found it today. Never heard anything like it.
Ok.... so this is the best song, & video, I've seen in years!! My hubby played this for me last night, and I've listened/ watched it about 20 times. Singers voice is stunningly beautiful.
well done song/video in EVERY way
Thank you Gangstagrass for the terrific music and also have to call out this incredible, emotional storytelling in the simple paper cut style animation! Wow. Brilliant work by Robin Steele.
Wow. I mean I kind of saw this coming. Alexa's voice is intoxicating. Jeez. So sultry. I love it.
LISTEN TO THE LOUVIN BROTHERS! KNOXVILLE GIRL.
My favorite rendition, just amazing.
Anyone else notice the foreshadowing? When they walked by the cafe, "D-EAT-H" was spelled backwards in the window, above the diner's knife.
Yeah, lots of knife/sword symbolism in there, loved it! And that grinning skeleton when the prison guard shone the flashlight - yikes!
That is SO cool! What brought that to your attention?
I did.
Wow, always wanted to see a video about the song! This is great!
This is freakn awesome... especially considering that it was all done by one person!
Anyone else notice the 420 reference?
This video is so well done - the art and story adds a dimension to the song, which adds a dimension to the original song, which makes me never look at the Ohio River the same way again. You are this urban midwesterner's favorite active band now and since I missed you at Martyr's, I'm sending a bunch of Chi-town love your way. Peace!
+Dean Radcliffe why she killed him_? I dont understand
In this song, she says that he "would not take me for his bride" - so since she couldn't married him - she killed him !
It's actually a twist on the old original song, where the guy kills the girl, presumably because she was pregnant and wanting him to marry her.
Several lines in the male sung version, state that the man was proposing marriage and that she refused "I asked her if she'd marry me and my wife forever be""Only say that you'll be mine and our home will happy be"" I killed the girl I loved, you see, because she would not marry me"
@@krempo997 She killed him to keep anybody else from having him
I know i live in a sad world when mumble rap has more views than this awesomness
I have to admit that your version of this song is actually pretty damn good! 👍
Beautifully done! Luv Ya, Rench!
Love this song 🎵 ❤
The song is a 19th century Appalachian ballad, no doubt with British roots. Recorded in US as early as 1927. Many versions in the "folk boom" and in bluegrass, traceable to Bascom Lamar Lunsford's Folkways version (1953) and Bill Monroe's interpretations, respectively. This is really a great version of an immortal song.
Just fn wow!!! As if I weren't depressed enough? But I'm digging it. Classic work all around.
THIS BAND IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WONDERFUL!
Love this
What, so there's karmic stabbings-back in heaven? ㅋㅋㅋ
This is an Irish ballad song from 1800s
This is a Beautiful version, Thankyou
Any links to Irish or English 19th Century (pre-Appalachian) versions? What river did it reference before it was the Ohio? Would love to see a much earlier version.
WOW!
Beautiful and haunting
I sometimes untick the like button on gems like this one, just so I can press it again; I guess it is some odd psychological thing but it's satisfying
That's an happy ending!
awesome !!!!!!
I love you guys! Wanna so you live!!
Wow! took a classic bluegrass murder ballad and reverse the roles, I remember this song by The Blue sky boys
This band is so underrated ❤
How killer is this !
Gee-zus does Alexa Dirks have a beautiful voice.
Amazing video to go with an excellent rendition of the song. LOVE the ending. Truly made me LOL. (Scared the cat).
HOLY COW! THIS IS GREAT!
Totally love it
Good song! I like it
Really digging the video and the new album!
Anyone else come here from the Blue Sky Boys?...
Also: PHEW! That was a trip and a half.
Huh, no rap section? I'm actually a little disappointed, but this song and video's awesome, so I'll get over it.
Great video! Oddly appealing. Gets my vote as video of the year. I, like others, kept expecting some rap.
What an uplifting story, especially at 3:43 ;)
love it
This version beats the hell out of Olivia Newton John's version.
@Drew Badger , I respectfully disagree! Tastes are very different, and the version of the Kossoy Sister does absolutely nothing for me.
I used to like Linda Ronstadt's version, but I can't find it anywhere.
I LOVE MOVIES AND SO AWESOME LOOK LIKE SAD ..
Great great great
good work !
Shiney pebbles always catch my eye ...look!
I prefer cans myself
SHOUT OUT FROM HUNTINGTON WV which lays on the banks of the OHIO
nice one
Phenomenal song. But the music video makes it so much better.
This song took dark turn...
@curiousgemini, the whole song is dark from the very beginning! And the animation drives this home. That's why I love this Version.
i found this by typing "phop phop phop"
WHOA
surprise ending for me....
This, like the Justified theme is, is a materful piece of music. I love this video. It is as vivid as it is sparse in it's imagery. After she kills the guy, the despair and emotional turmoil can be seen in her face, especially wen she is in jail, and being led to the gallow's. The best is the ending though.
Thanks for ruining the video for me
How did I ruin the video for you?
Hi Marvin, protip, if you tell what happens it's called a spoiler alert. Thx
dont you know to avoid the comments like the plague until you see the video? XD there will always be an asshat spoiler
You guys need to do something with upchurch
Dope fucking dope
the video is a little dark but love it
I'm pretty Shure she hit no main vain so how da fug is she so bloody
First of all; I didn't mean to do that, and I apologize.
and second I guess you knew what to look for now didn't you.
why she killed him_? I dont understand
+deerhunter Then you've never dated a girl with "daddy issues".
She wanted to get married, and he didn't. So she flipped out and in a fit of rage killed him. This song is about 100 years old and tells a story of raw emotion, and despair.
@@mt3311 But never before have I seen/heard a version where the rejected proposal comes from the woman. That's new in this version.
June Carter Cash died 13 years ago today.
Shes the orginal writer of this song aswell.
Tribute to her please.
She gave love to one of our all time greatest musicians of our times....
And was an amazing artist herself.
And respect to your guys cover aswell.
I agree that June Carter was an amazing artist and she did a great version of this song. However the origin of this song seems much older. I have heard speculation that it may even go back to 1800s music halls.
Sorry but this is not a June carter song
It’s an old Irish ballad from 1800s
No, Donald Trump wrote it.
And the story's character roles have been reversed.
The ending is what's up ;)
Nicely done y'all
The ancestors are delighted ❤
Nowadays music goes too far with the violence, I wish they would still do jolly songs like in the 1950s… JK
Nailed it man
My least favorite..
