I agree. I was blessed to be in attendance at a private event circa 1998 where Ray and a 3 piece combo performed for a very small audience, maybe 75 people. He opened with "I Got A Woman" and was on fire. He never let that energy drop. No Raylettes, just 3 kick ass musicians and Ray performing as if it was their first show. I was transfixed on them the entire time. Breathtakingly good.
Back in the day, '78 or so... when I was a youngster... Bobby Caldwell fooled me. What you won't do... do for love. You tried everything and you don't give up...
like an unearthly rumble that you could feel, windows in the sanctuary broke. It was other-worldly. It left an impression on me that lingered. I've never experienced that in any other church...EVER. In later years it helped me to understand why black music literally overtook the USA in the '50s, '60s and '70s with Jazz, Blues and Rock-n-Roll. It was just phenomenal and makes sense now that 411 is emerging in States that blacks are the Hebrews of Bible. This LIFE we live IS the Creator's show.
There isn't always a difference between black and white voices but at least 95% of the time i can tell the difference. If anything the black person will sound white i rarely hear white people that sound black
That very, very specific point in history when you could sing “was I gay” and it had enough double meaning for a slight grin but still mostly meant happy.
Of course there IS a difference in singing/speaking voices, just like there is a difference in dance as there IS a difference in the ultimate distinction, LOOKS. I thought it was a little disingenuous of Johnnie Cochran to use that argument at the OJ trial since the whole USA music system is built on the difference between black and white sound, i.e., R&B charts vs. Rock or Country charts, etc. I remember as a child going to a black church where the minister sang. his voice was so deep and loud
Dick Cavett was the shit but being born in 1980, the first time I ever saw him and heard that razor sharp voice was on A Nightmare on Elm Street 3! HORRIFIC!!!!
Elvis Costello was very mistaken, hence Elvis' music. There has ALWAYS been black music and dance vs. white music/dance in USA. This is truth. Dick Cavett wasn't bad and Ray Charles' voice is not a great black voice but it IS a black voice so it's going to be different from Dick Cavett's. But if you listen to Luther Vandross of Lou Rawls you'll get a more definitive difference.
Can you tell if i am blk or white by how i speak? I know ppl who are blk that speak very well I’m glad i wasn't born during these times. How very insulting. ❤️Ray Charles
You know what... Being another tone deaf singer like Dick here... At certian points early on his voice wasnt too bad. Even listenable... Until then it went down hill hard.
I've been to hundreds of concerts and Ray Charles was the best by far. I was so blessed to see him.
copelarry I would’ve loved too but he passed when I was 8 years old. Didn’t get a chance. You’re so lucky!
@dayum son so do you
You verry lucky
You’re rich dawg

This is so great. Both of them are just amazing people and Dick Cavetts show is one of a kind
Just to see him laugh with Dick and then suddenly shift into seriousness and get right into it. A true treat this is why RUclips is amazing😂.

Now when Ray starts to sing seriously on 3:56 you just GOT to stop smiling and listen its amazing
Randy Newman must've watched this and said to himself "This is the Ray Charles I gotta bring Disney"
Ray seems like such a kind person
Oh, I loved this..loved Ray....still do!!!!
Are we the only ones who liked this?????
heh, I find it cool that ray kept playing and singing in the same key cavett started singing.

Back in the day, '78 or so... when I was a youngster... Bobby Caldwell fooled me. What you won't do... do for love. You tried everything and you don't give up...

You don`t know how much what you have said resinates with me.It is my prayer too.For real

Great moment... and what made Cavett "Cavett" was that he had the nerve of a burglar.
Very self-assured. Good parenting.
Ray made him sound good !
Great video.
Ray at his best!!!!!

Nothing more 70s than a Fender Rhodes.
How sweet was that?!
Rip Mr Charles
Nope, music is forever and unforgotten
There isn't always a difference between black and white voices but at least 95% of the time i can tell the difference. If anything the black person will sound white i rarely hear white people that sound black

oh man, he just tried to handshake ray charles.
LMAO!!!!!
Nice. The end was funny; 'Oh wait, he's blind', lol
He can't keep a note and it's so funny; I am going to 6 bars to get over it.
He keeps trying to do hand gestures then realizes how trivial they are haha.
I can't tell the difference.

5:58 Dick realizes Ray can't see that he wants to shake hands.
@sbmegypt3 you made your comment on Dick Cavett a year ago, but I had to reply to mourn with you and weep. I cldn't agree with you more !
At least 5 bars lol
I noticed that these questions are slick, but who knew that devilish minds were behind the scenes making them up purposely.
E911.... Puffy...eln....Canada....
He isnt teh only one in pain... the paino sounded in pain too
Everyone really was on cocaine back in the day 😂 it’s so obvious
Nah, their brains weren't tapped down by electromagnetic radiation, hormone additives, chemical exposure, etc
Was i gay? VERY! 😂
Can you tell if i am blk or white by how i speak?
