The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

It's impossible to not love Satchmo.
Long song for Ed’s show - nearly 6 mins. A very special treat!
Ed greatly admired satchmo.
You can tell from the start that Ed trusted Satchmo to put on a very good SHEW
Love Louis."Bing Crosby. In Technicolor" 🎤🎺✊
Satch is sorely missed.
His laugh… his smile wow… his music.. his energy… this Man’s precious Soul..
“My man tan is coming off” … sooo good and…. xo
“Bing Crosby in Technicolor"! Hahahahaha
A true legend. Top shelf entertainment.
Trummy Young (tb, vcl), Barney Bigard (cl), Billy Kyle (p), Mort Herbert (b), Danny Barcelona (dr)
Thank you :) !!
Yes thank you.
And on the trumpet, well, you know who...
I always did like Louis
Armstrong, no matter what he was in.
Ele foi o maior.
I so miss the Ed Sullivan show where we would see wonderful, talented and real fine nusicians such as what this fabulous video displayed. It is September 1, 2022, and I am still watch our pops Satchmo swing with Trummy and the band. I miss these fine fellas. Louis is Jazz and made jazz. He is the embodiment of jazz.
❤️❤️❤️⚘️❤️❤️❤️⚘️❤️❤️❤️⚘️❤️❤️❤️⚘️
Louis was beyond beyond great. Jazz was never the same when came along.
I LOVE THIS!
I love Louie!
Hr had so much class
It wasn't as easy to see if he might be a little difficult to get along with only because he was a perfectionist behind all of that swagger and humor, it's real obvious.
He asked The pianist to modulate, where The pianist then merely just repeated what he had already done, and did not actually modulate.
Was humor? Is it part of the piece is it part of the piece? You soon realize it indeed is part of the stick, as the drummer proves after the first line.
FYI: shtick
Well yes, Louis Armstrong was a perfectionist, but so were all the other musicians upon that stage. In fact most great artists are perfectionists, as are most of the top people in any other field, say like engineering or business.
Final note, his band members loved him. Armstrong lead by encouragement. When a solo or a number was good, he would laugh or smile. So basically, he never told them that they did a bad job but when they did a good job would reward them. This is a great way to motivate dedicated people.
When i saw the bing Crosby version i was like " This is the best version of Now you has jazz "
But when trummy young sang in this version, my mind literally went " Yep, he's the goat "
I'm so glad I heard this version! I'm so in love with Bing Crosby too. They both are magnificent with Louie
Soul presence. Beautiful.
_Thank you!_
OMG❤
It is Louis ✊ Miss Bing Crosby 🎤
magnifique!!!
Magnificent! 👍🏻
Smooth and jolly.😅 What a mood lifter!
😍😍😍
Muito top dms
Nice😁
Satchmo....the popular name of the jazz musician Louis Armstrong. It was short for 'satchel mouth', because he had a very large mouth. A satchel is a type of large bag.
sure, that's the often repeated legend, but not so sure his mouth was particularly larger in size than most others....what was 'large' was the 'beaucoup' sounds that his mouth produced on his horn. Five will get you Ten there have been dozens of trumpet players with larger mouths than Armstrong, but none of them ever produced the satchel of sounds Louis produced. If Armstrong never picked up a trumpet, you wonder if his "mouth size" alone would have resulted in him being called "Satchelmouth"....the nickname seems inextricably tied to the music his mouth and trumpet together produced.
Wow 🎉
Modulate, boy! Modulate! Lmao
OMG...I just noticed that Satch sweated through his shirt during a 5 minute number>
He did sweat quite heavily, indeed. In this instance they had already performed four numbers before this one, "That's My Home", "Indiana", "Blueberry Hill" and "Tiger Rag".
@@bernardflegar8017 Thanks for clarifying.
My man tan is coming off ☠️☠️💀💀🤣
In the Bing Crosby's recording of "Now You 'has' Jazz", in the final of the lyrics Mr. Bing Crosby says "...Rock Rock Rock Rock and Roll...". But in the Louis Armstrong's rendition, Mr. Louis Armstrong doesn't. Why?...

Gentlefolk of Newport
Or should I say "hats and cats, "
Please lend an ear
That you all may hear
Some shimmering sharps and flats.
For those cosy virtuosi,
known as "hipsters" to the trade,
wish to show you now
Precisely how
Jazz music is made.
Take some skins,
Jazz begins,
Take a bass
Steady pace,
Take a box,
One that rocks,
Take a blue horn New Orleans-born.
Take a stick
With a lick,
Take a bone,
Dixie-grown,
Take a spot,
Cool and hot,
Now you has jazz jazz jazz, jazz, jazz.
Now you has,
Now you has,
Now you has,
Now you has,
Now you has,
Now you has,
Now you has jazz, jazz, jazz, jazz, jazz, jazz,
Now you
Has,
Now you
Has,
Now you
Has,
Now you has jazz, jazz, jazz, jazz, jazz.
Jazz
Jazz
Jazz
Jazz
Jazz
Jazz
Now you has jazz,
Now you has jazz,
Now you has jazz
If you sail
Over the sea,
Take my tip
They're all molto hip
In Italy.
As for France,
Believe it or not,
Frenchmen all
prefer what they call
"Le Jazz Hot."
Take a plane
Go to Siam,
In Bangkok
Today, 'round the clock,
They have a jam.
Indians on
the Amazon
Beat one bar
and all of 'em are
gone, man, gone.
From the Equator
Up to the Pole,
Through the air
you hear everywhere
Rock and roll.
From the East
Out to the West,
Jazz is king,
'Cause jazz is the thing
Folks
Dig
Best.
I feel like his napkin
It's only *kinda* jazz, until Satchmo shows and blows...
bull. its jazz before, during, and after Satch blows. No need to insult the other musicians...especially pianist Billy Kyle, trombonist Trummy Young, and clarinetist Barney Bigard, whose resumes long before this gig had already made them the equivalent of Hall of Fame caliber jazz musicians. You act like Pops is playing with some scrubs, lol. Those three guys played important roles in some of the greatest jazz groups the planet has known...your cluelessness notwithstanding.
Listen to the audience loving them. So much for America being a racist country in 1961. 🤣
