I recently purchased this generator. Your channel has been my go-to for my decision on which one I was going with. I also installed a Softstart on my 13.5btu AC. The champion starts the AC without issue on propane.
Perfect thanks for sharing this. It’s funny how some people spend an extra $500 to buy a bigger generator when all they have to do is install soft starts. 👍🏾👌🏾
@@GeneratorReviews for me, it was more about convenience. We mostly have shore power. But want to have the Genny for lunch stops and occasional dry camping. But didn’t want to carry gas. Have 2 tanks of propane on my trailer. After around 10k mi of camping last year, only emptied 1 tank.
Would this start a 15k btu dometic AC with a micro air easy soft start it puts out 21A ( which I believe is 2520 watts) at start up then maintains 8A running with soft start installed or do I need a bigger generator?
Excellent review. I plan on using propane only due the ease of long term storage. After watching this, I think I can confidently power my homes basic necessities with this generator.
Awesome test, Gavin. Mine arrived last night and I couldn't resist running it. These load numbers you found are quite helpful to me. Great real-world review. Very helpful if you're in the process of looking to buy a generator and calculating the demand to fit the generator. Terrific video!
Thanks for the video. I was just breaking in my 100899 Champion this weekend (99% the same as your 200962 in this video). One of the most appreciated features oddly is the no-tools access. Very handy and no lost screws. I heard other people say their dual fuel generators were a little more noisy on propane, but gave no reason for it. It runs at a higher RPM... great testing and observation.
Wish I had known about this before I purchased my Predator 2000. Not that there’s anything wrong with it but the overload light will start flashing with the RV AC and trips immediately when I power on the Keurig (without the AC running of course) I think this little guys extra 250watts running and 500 starting watts is just what I’d need to power both individually without an issue. I have a Champion 4650 that’ll do both, even simultaneously if I wanted, but lugging around 40-50lbs is a lot easier on the back than 100+ lbs.
I bought the 2000w champion dual fuel bnib from a liquidation store (no warranty) it has 24 hours. Changed oil about 3 times in first hour then ran for about 5 and changed again. Lots of metal every time. Ran it for 15 and oil was very dark for propane and decompression system wasn't working anymore, and it burns oil. Exhaust valve had extreme amount of clearance. I put the carb, spacer, and all the hoses on my generac gp2200i and it bolted right on (both mz80 clones from different manufacturers) gasoline inlet tubes different diameters on the carbs however. I intend to run it on propane instead because I think the champion engine may be a turd. It has 19 hours and none of the same problems. I'm doing a test run right now to see if it burns the same amount of propane with the different rpm mapping, and to see if oil is dark again. The champion burned about 0.77lbs/hr with steady load of 750w
@@GeneratorReviews it was definately new, but yeah you are correct. Who knows maybe it was from a bad batch someone pilfered or something. I just checked on the generac, 1.05 lbs per hour at 750 watts. That sucks. Scale I weighed the tank with has no decimals so maybe that is skewing my numbers. Burned 6 lbs in 5.7 hours. My previous calculation was because propane guy put 12lbs in after I ran it. I never thought to use the industrial scale at my work so that could be off too
Thanks for the great video. Im trying to prep for hurricane season. Any interest in testing how long it takes to run a propane tank dry at a higher load? I would be running mine at 40% load and I'm trying to find out how many propane tanks I would need for about 5 days of power.
You don't say how long you plan on running the generator per day? I put a heavy load on my Champion 2000 watt duel fuel inverter generator with gas and it ran for close to 5 hours. So if the generator will run close to 34 hours on 20 lb propane@ 25 per sent load you should get about 25 hours on one tank? Just guessing. That would take 5 20 pound tanks. Only if you get them refilled, the ones you get exchanged for they are not filled up all the way to allow for expansion!
@@davidpomm I get about 5 hours on my Champion 2000 watt duel fuel inverter generator running a 12000 BTU window unit running gas! Remember you can't get a Honda generator that runs on propane.
great video. I'm going to purchase one for my small camper it has a quick connect for a propane griddle. is there a hose I can buy to use it instead of the one that comes with it?
Good afternoon! Thank you very much for this most informative demo of the Champion 2500! This is awesome! I have a travel trailer arriving in a few weeks. I will mostly be boondocking with it for at least the next 5 years. After that, I hope to retire and start doing 1-2 month trips; which I suspect will be more in campgrounds. I will install a robust solar setup on my rig. So, am looking to get a suitcase inverter generator in the event it is cloudy or we are in the trees. This is a really tough decision. There are, of course, the very proven Honda’s. With reliability and name comes a distinct price height. And then comes a few of these different models that probably do just about as good as the Honda. In our case, the generator would only be a back up. And, occasionally, it would be called on to run the a/c. I will put a soft start on the a/c to reduce its power draw. I like this champion! And it has an extra 100 or 200 continuous watts as compared to some of the other choices. I know a 3000+ watt gen would better do the job. But, I REALLY want to keep the gen weights to the 50ish lbs level. And, if I needed to, could get a second lighter generator to supplement (another good reason for a Honda off-shoot model). Safe travels
@@GeneratorReviews thank you very much, also! If you were in that position, would you get a Honda 2200 or would you get a different one for $600...and maybe a second one later if you found you needed it?
@@campingalan That’s a hard one, I would definitely recommend that you figure out what you need to power first and then you’ll know which one’s going to get the job done ✅
Should have added, though: I see you've done reviews of other small inverter gens - It would have been REALLY useful for you to comment on how this compared to the 2000-2200 watt pieces you've reviewed.
Your videos are the best. Thank you for being so thorough! We are interested in knowing if this generator could run a hair dryer? Typical blow dryers can run at 1875 watts or 2000 watts. From what I learned watching your video, it seems like as long as we find a hair dryer that runs around 1600 watts or lower, we would be in ok shape? Thanks again.
Awesome video, great load testing, thank you! I had a question about this generator, it says not to use more than 10%ethanol gas. Im starting to see 15%ethanol gas available, is there an addiditve to remove ethanol?
Check out your area, they sell non alcohol gas at different gas stations! You should also get a fuel stabilizer like Stable for the gas it will prevent the gas from gumming up the carb and will make fuel last for up to 2 years.

Hi Gavin! Love your channel. I'm trying to decide between this model (200961) and the new Wen DF250i. A comparison or any other feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and keep up the great work.
You can’t go wrong with either one but the Champion has the quick connect which makes it really easy when running on propane. I will see if I can put a test together comparing those two.
Champion makes a 2000/1700 version of this, also dual fuel with the propane rated at 1530 running. My guess is that this (2000/1700) generator probably is pretty much a near clone that simply doesn't rev as high as the 2500 - if so, it would probably be a bit quieter and a bit more fuel efficient? Any thoughts on this assumption?
I think it all depends on your power requirements if you don’t need that extra 500W the 2000W would be a little bit more fuel efficient as far as quieter I really don’t see it being any quieter
Hi Gavin great video gave it a thumbs up. I'm thinking about buying this generator for my small travel trailer. It has a 13500 BTU air conditioning unit. Do you think this generator can handle it. All the info I find online seems to recommend using a Micro Air Easy Start. Thanks for you input.
Yes, absolutely but is that the only thing you need to run and especially during the hot summer months, the micro easy start helps a lot. please consider a 3k generator for rving

I was trying to save a few dollars so that is why I was a bit confused from all the videos I watched. Yours made so much sense and direct to the point. I'm glad I contacted you and you responded. Cheers!
Shopping around right now and see Champion has this one and also a 2000 watt version but both have the same size motor (79cc) and same weight listed on Amazon. So does this one just literally have a larger capacity inverter and that’s it? But yet it still weighs the same as the 2000 watt version?
Hi Gavin, love your reviews. I presently have this Champion 2500 dual fuel generator. I'm thinking of selling it & buying either the Genmax 3500 or 4500 dual fuel. This generator would be primarily used on a 5th wheel RV with 2 AC units which have soft start. I think the best price I've seen on the 4500w Genmax is $850. Your thoughts? It's pretty close in weight to the 3500w and about $150 more.

Very informative on all the generator can do. I’m thinking of buying the 3400 dual fuel. But knowing that I’m gonna be running it off propane. I’m wondering if I should buy two 2500 dual fuel and a parallel kit. And get 3200 watts instead of the 2700 from a single 3400 generator. What’s your opinion on that Sir?
Get the single less maintenance the parallel kit is nice but two propane tanks two generators parallel kit way to much for me. Anyways that’s just my opinion but let me know what you decide . If you were using gas I would say the parallel kit had a chance but with propane it’s a lot to handle
@@GeneratorReviews hello Galvin, i got my generator today the champion 3400 dual fuel. Did the break in on it, change out the oil came out clean. Refilled it. Thanks 🙏 I appreciate your videos
That's good, in some of the dual fuel generators I have some that have the propane primer bulbs and some don't. With the propane primer bulb the generator starts so much easier.
Hello I have a question about using gas or the propane part of the generator can I use only the propane part of it and when I do want to use the gas part of it do I have to let it run dry so that way there is no way of corrosion inside the tank and by using only the propane will that mess up the generator and anyway and how to store it also have you had any problems with that yet
Hi Richard You can run it on propane only then store it with zero extra work. When you start using gasoline you will have to run the carburetor dry and drain the tank before storage
You can burn ethanol blend the only thing is when you’re storing the generator, just make sure every drop of fuel is out of the tank and out of the carburetor. There’s a little screw that drains the carburetor use it and everything should be fine my friend.
Gavin, when you set these up in Parallel Kit, does the power split between units and therefore the RPM is less on each? Would that be the same for the Honda EU 2200?
@@GeneratorReviews Thank you so much for showing me where to look for black ones, ill start looking on walmart today. you made my day i never would have thought that walmart carried any generators. Thank you again to who ever gave me this information from Gavins Garage.
Thank you for the information you gave me to look for this generator at wal mart. I have order one already this same day. I thought i would never find one in black. All yellow is to revealing for all to notice and black is not as noticeable to see for most people who might want to steal it.
I noticed that at peak power there was quite a bit of voltage drop, especially on propane. Is that unique to the Champion 2500? I know that can be very tough on electronics.
Remember this test a stress test I’m just trying to show the full potential of your generator you’ll probably never run your generator that high to see a voltage drop

Great thorough and solid review. Helping us decide on this buy...Thank you.
Glad I could help!
@@GeneratorReviews wish your link payed you some dividends. Just purchased based from your review. Will subscribe and look through your content. Thank you again my friend. Cheers from So Cal.
@@ronniesherpalee4150 Thanks I’m so happy this helped you with your purchase
Great, informative vid, thank you. I have one on order. Can you parallel champion with other brands of similar size?
Yes you can BUT only if the other Gen has the para link square parallel kit plug
Great test thank you for all the information!
You’re welcome
Thanks for watching
More than 15 amps on propane; that's impressive!
Yessir 👍🏾
Champion makes a 2000/1700 version of this, also dual fuel with the propane rated at 1530 running. My guess is that this (2000/1700) generator probably is pretty much a near clone that simply doesn't rev as high as the 2500 - if so, it would probably be a bit quieter and a bit more fuel efficient? Any thoughts on this assumption?
Yep 👍🏾 plus it has some upgrades like a display gauge.
@@GeneratorReviews Thank you for your quick response. I have been looking at the Champion 3400 dual fuel. I was trying to save a few dollars so that is why I was a bit confused from all the videos I watched. Yours made so much sense and direct to the point. I'm glad I contacted you and you responded. Cheers!
@@backroadsxplorer572 No problem happy to help.
When it comes to generators it’s always better to have a little extra power left over.
Just bought this exact model. Your video helped a lot. Compared to the Ryobi, which one you prefer?
I’d say it all depends on how you plan on using your Generator the champion is going to be the work horse.👍🏾
Thanks for all of the detail regarding this generator !
Glad it was helpful!
Shopping around right now and see Champion has this one and also a 2000 watt version but both have the same size motor (79cc) and same weight listed on Amazon. So does this one just literally have a larger capacity inverter and that’s it? But yet it still weighs the same as the 2000 watt version?
I’m going to check it out and get back to you ASAP
Thanks for the info. Where did you get your power meter as I would like to have this for some analysis?
I will put the link in description for you 👍🏾
Very nice vid. I also like the 3-year warranty on this model.
Thanks 🙏🏾
Nice. Just what I need at the cabin.
You are the man for making this awesome video! Thank you so much, have a blessed day
Thanks 😊

@@sae1964 cool happy that helped
@@GeneratorReviews hello Galvin. Have you ever done a video of a champion dual fuel 3400 to see what exactly it would run on a rv? Thanks 🙏
Don't need to tanks just run a 2 way splitter on a 5 gallon
Thank you ,very informative video.great testing.I was looking at this generator to purchase.
Hey Gavin can you this champion 2500 head to head against westinghouse 2500?
That’s a great HEAD TO HEAD👍🏾
Another great video! Thank you!
Always make sure the tip goes in the hole :)
Another banger..keep it coming
Thanks 🙏🏾
Almost there ..on your way to big things..
Great job on video. I bought one of these last month.
Thanks for watching
Great video especially the explanation about eco mode. Love the tool free access.
Thanks for watching
If there’s a button to save gas I’m gonna be the first one to use it😅
Very good video, helpful and easy to follow, good information. Thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a great, objective video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Where did you get that kilowatt meter you have in line there? The one that shows the VOLTS and AMPS and KW?
I got it on Amazon
Excellent demonstration! Thanks!
Thanks
Does this generator have a propane push button primer bulb. This feature is so nice for fast easy starts.
No primer bulb, I think it starts ok as it is.
That's good, in some of the dual fuel generators I have some that have the propane primer bulbs and some don't. With the propane primer bulb the generator starts so much easier.
Very informative Gavin -- thank you!
Does the volume increase greatly at load?
Yes it does get louder but not that much
Very GOOD review! Thanks!!! I gonna get one.
Hi Richard
You can run it on propane only then store it with zero extra work.
When you start using gasoline you will have to run the carburetor dry and drain the tank before storage
@@GeneratorReviews thank you so much
Thank you for your helpful review.
Great review…very thorough.
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
Thank you for the video and the education.
Thanks
You have a new viewer, what a great job
Thanks and welcome
Just got one and I'm reading ethanol blend not recommended. Any truth to that?
You can burn ethanol blend the only thing is when you’re storing the generator, just make sure every drop of fuel is out of the tank and out of the carburetor.
There’s a little screw that drains the carburetor use it and everything should be fine my friend.
Gavin, when you set these up in Parallel Kit, does the power split between units and therefore the RPM is less on each? Would that be the same for the Honda EU 2200?
yes they share the load so the does lower the rpm
Remember, you can't get a Honda that runs on propane!
Wow…very detailed. Thank you!
Thanks 🙏🏾
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
I wonder if eco mode makes more of a difference on gas rather than propane.
It really doesn’t matter gas or propane. Eco mode is more fuel efficient.
Wish you would have linked to that Tac/Hour meter. Thanks
I will find it and link it
excellent video!
Very well done Sir.
Thanks!!
Thanks
Can this power a refrigerator and a window a/c unit at the same time?
It probably could run it, but there’s a chance that both loads may start at the same time and trip the breaker.
Can you stress test that small firman like this? Great video btw!!
Sure thing!!!! Will do.
Gavin, how does the EU2200 RPM compare to the Champion? Gas to Gas?
I will put the rpm meter on it. I’ll let you know
Good review. Thanks for sharing it.
Did you ever test this model on gasoline on full load for the full tank ? Gph on max load?
No I’ve never done a full tank run test maybe in a power outage but I don’t think my neighbors would like listening to it for 10 hours running 😅
Thank you sir!!! Excellent review! Cheers
Thanks 🙏🏾
Great video...I just got one just like this...Man you really helped me..
Yes!!!! That’s what I wanna hear.. Thank for watching and please subscribe and share 😎👍🏾
whats the model number , i want to buy the one with the black frame like yours. not the all yellow.
Hi Steve
Go to Walmart.com search champion 2500 you’ll see the black ones.
@@GeneratorReviews Thank you so much for showing me where to look for black ones, ill start looking on walmart today. you made my day i never would have thought that walmart carried any generators. Thank you again to who ever gave me this information from Gavins Garage.
p/s just ordered one from wal mart in black. today. Thanks again for your help. Steve
Thank you for the information you gave me to look for this generator at wal mart. I have order one already this same day. I thought i would never find one in black. All yellow is to revealing for all to notice and black is not as noticeable to see for most people who might want to steal it.
@@stevepena2570 no problem, Steve happy I could help. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
@@GeneratorReviews thanks so much for getting back to me. I'll take a look at your other 2k generator tests to see if there is one that mitigates that drop best.
So Really Without using those two 500 watt Lights That Little Generator would have powered the 1500 watt heater with no problem ? Correct?
Yes it will power the 1500w with no problem
