The Idea that Russia's army is made up of conscripts is incredibly misleading, Russia has mandatory military service like a lot of other countries, but the core of the Russian army is made up of professional contract soldiers, during the Ukraine War Russia called up 300000 reservists meaning they had prior military training. Conscript doesn't mean untrained just not volunteer. Most of the soldiers who fought in WWI and WWII on all sides were conscripts. Fully volunteer armies have some advantages like higher morale but they also have some serious flaws like the fact they are dependent on a high degree of patriotism. Countries like The US and the UK are currently having serious issues filling their recruitment quotas because of low National Zeal.

The Idea that Russia's army is made up of conscripts is incredibly misleading, Russia has mandatory military service like a lot of other countries, but the core of the Russian army is made up of professional contract soldiers, during the Ukraine War Russia called up 300000 reservists meaning they had prior military training. Conscript doesn't mean untrained just not volunteer. Most of the soldiers who fought in WWI and WWII on all sides were conscripts. Fully volunteer armies have some advantages like higher morale but they also have some serious flaws like the fact they are dependent on a high degree of patriotism. Countries like The US and the UK are currently having serious issues filling their recruitment quotas because of low National Zeal.
