  • I am creating a walkway of carpet thyme. Now I am going to use some of this great walkable plant to "carpet" my fire bowl sitting area. Carpet thyme is a tough, walkable plant that smells great and attracts pollinators.
    I grow flowers and vegetables in Saskatchewan, Canada. My cold hardiness zone is zone 4. I have an average of 110 frost free growing days each year. The past few years have seen our temperatures go as low as -37C (-34.6F) to as high as 37C (98.6F). Come see what and how I grow in these conditions.

    6:26 so satisfying to see the unearthing of rocks whilst rolling the thyme back.

    I had no idea the creeping thyme would get so big and would grow right over the rocks. So interesting. I've got to give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

    Your front yard looks so nice. Some people just put rock down and nothing else, but yours is pleasing to the eye.
    I love that creeping thyme. I am hoping that our droughf is over and I can start some in an area that I can walk over in barefeet. Great idea to have it where you sit...I hope it takes.
    Keep warm..we are in for a cool rainy few days...but hopefully it will help to get a hold on the wildfires.

      It’s nice to see water laying in the fields this year. Hopefully we can continue to get this good moisture.
      I highly recommend trying the carpet thyme as it feels so nice under the feet.

    Howdy, Prairie Plantgirl and cute Buster!👋 Your field stones are so nice.
    Really nice idea to make a carpet of thyme around your fire pit area.👍
    As usual there is lots of great info in this video. Earlier this yesr my sister asked my opinion about a ground cover, and I told her about your creeping thyme. She put some down. She loves it.😃
    I'm going to share this video with her.🙂
    I have cobs on my popcorn stalks and I harvested a couple of bell peppers this morning. My sisters is harvesting tomatoes...I'm waiting for mine to start blushing. I'm getting lots of green beans and strawberries. The okra is coming in as well.👩🏾‍🌾

      Mmm fresh garden harvests! I can’t wait to be harvesting like you are now. I picked lettuce for a salad tonight 😀.
      It’s great you enjoy my videos and find info to share with your sister. I hope she finds it helpful!

    It will take time, but it will work. I had 3 spare tomato plants, to I put them by the pavement end of my path in a cardboard box, marked FREE PLANTS - Tomatoes -Take one or all, I looked to bring them in for the evening and they were gone, just the empty box was left. I'm so please someone took them, they got a Tigerella, Black Krim and a Crimson Crush, hope they like them and I injected another gardener with the BUG.

    Job well done as usual. I'm sure it'll grow very well around your fire pit area. Are your potatoes up yet? I can't remember how long ago that you planted them. I hope you have a good day.

      Thank you. Yes the potatoes are up. I am hoping to do an update on what’s growing if the weather cooperates.

    So did the thyme take over those flagstones in one growing season?

    • @PrairiePlantgirl
      @PrairiePlantgirl  4 месяца назад +1

      No. I trim it back a little every year. This year I have it a big cut back.

    • @limitlessends
      @limitlessends 4 месяца назад

      That’s a relief! I was concerned that sort of cut back would need to be an annual thing. Does creeping thyme grow very tall? Do you think it would be ambitious enough try to take a raised bed?

    • @PrairiePlantgirl
      @PrairiePlantgirl  4 месяца назад +1

      @limitlessends this carpet thyme barely grows 1cm tall even when in bloom. Some creeping thymes can be slightly taller.
