Noooo! Not the last harvest. LOL We usually watch for your dips knowing we are only a week or two behind. Great harvest though. Thanks for the share!

Thanks! It has been a good, productive season here. Unfortunately the cold is coming.

Howdy, Prairie Plantgirl!👋 Nice final pepper haul!👍Wow, y'all are getting cocoa weather.☕️
Our nighttime lows are in the 60s...highs in the low 90s. Love our fall weather.💕

Wow! No wonder so many people South of here love fall weather! Our high today was only around 50F! It has gotten very chilly here. Hot cocoa sounds like a good idea 😀

After many years of not growing peppers, I decided to give them a try this year. I started them from seeds. My sweet yellow bell peppers grew very nicely and were loaded with fruit. I harvested the first few big ones in the middle of July. The rest of them did not turn yellow and many started to rot and go splat on the ground. I picked the rest of the green ones and discovered that they were infested with pepper maggots. After reading about the pepper maggots, I decided that I will never grow peppers again.

Ugh! I just learned of pepper maggot last year. It hits a few peppers, not all. Some peppers this year did have bad spots if I waited too long.

Serono peppers have changed me , Normal for me not to like HOT but their flavor has won me over but I must limit how much I burn easily.
Just dehydrated a couple tiny jelly jars and will be testing a bit in many dishes. Also going to dehydrate some of the few bells and first season growing leeks so got to try dehydrator on the leeks..
It's been the driest summer for me in 6a Ohio.
If you have sunflower plants don't damage the roots that's where you should simply plant a tomato seedlings or peppers seedlings don't tilt or dig but to plant seedlings and bone meal at planting time.Promise you less watering less work that sunflower is a cover crop it will feed your seedling providing drainage and nutrients with less work and more productive than any way I've tried.
Yes prep for winter is close now
    Thanks for helping me

I’ve never tried dehydrating my bell peppers. I usually just freeze them.

a great harvest! I might need to harvest this week at some point, but if the weather gods cooperate, it may go on for another couple weeks! I'm personally hopjng for that, got a lotta tomatoes to ripen, at least the green peppers can be used like normal. :p I think the garlic is gonna go in later than usual this year, we've had such a warm fall.

I just did garlic today. The last few years have given us warmer temperatures through most of October - then it slams us near with a blizzard near the end of the month!

Nice pepper harvest there. I was looking at your weather map the other day and it looks like you might have had some snow not too far from you. No frost over hear yet.

No snow around here that I’ve heard of. Very light frost last night.

😅I have been thinking the same in Z5a, WI. Expected frost 9/25 and we are really stretching it this year but we already had a few degrees just above freezing and looks like maybe Monday might get to freezing of 32*F/0*C.
We had a Great pepper year. It didn’t start so well with a ton of non stop rain but soon they grew into trees. The Jalepenos were not super prolific as I tried a couple new ones-Megatron had great growth but not prolific and I see they are starting up again🙄. We have had some sweet peppers get a few small holes probably from maggot and some just started to go bad as I waited for them to turn color, but not too bad. It’s the first year ever that I had huge bell peppers turn all different colors.
Seriously I have Way too many peppers 😂. I’ve been using them like you, gave away a bunch, froze some and now I’m like the zucchini gardener 😂😂 trying to get rid of them. We will dehydrate today and powder them and if possible give more away😅.
It was the tomatoes that suffered for the first time ever. Got enough, but too much rain.
I seen the jet stream was bringing cold to your region and we will get a chill come Sunday night although our mornings have been in low 40sF and days are 70s finally. At this point I’m pretty much done and I just have some stubborn Tabasco peppers that have a set late clock and probably won’t grow again. I’m not even looking forward to taking cuttings to babysit this winter-not really a houseplant person. That leads to a story of a deliver that was full of houseplants and the company said keep them🙄🙄now I have even more than my two that are an orchid and Christmas cactus that take my not so good care.
I do have a couple projects I would like done-redo the greenhouse with new polycarbonate panels and add a couple feet with heat sink as I want all the mess to be outside next year and make a hot compost bin as I think they are too expensive for a plastic bin that won’t take the sun here.
Nice timing on pepper video! Enjoyed it!

Rain is always the issue it seems we either have too much or too little in our gardens. We had a light frost last night but most plants were not too affected. I’ve stopped watering my pots and am just emptying the rain barrels into the perennials and shrubs to give them a good drink before freeze. I also blew out the underground sprinkler lines today.

I’ve had no luck growing sweet peppers. I wish I knew how to fix it. Mstbe my summers aren’t edema enough. How do you preserve them?

    • @PrairiePlantgirl

Sweet peppers can be frozen (I like to slice them first) and used for cooked dishes later.
