I need to know if I can use exogenous ketones in prolonged fast. Will they affect autophagy? My goal is NOT to loose weight, but get other benefits from fasting.
If it helps you get into ketosis, why couldn't it be used as catalyst or temporary crutch to get into or maintain a keto fat burning state? For example, I bike long distances and sometimes I get extremely tired and will take a single bhb pill, which doesn't have much energy, but it keeps me from caving and eating carbs until I get home and can fuel properly

Why do you use the term "weight loss" instead of "fat loss"? My goals for keto are to maximize mental performance while maintaining my crossfit training. When I hear weight loss, it makes me think there may be a sacrifice in physical performance.
Dr. Berg, can you do a video about sole? I'm wondering if you agree with a lot of the benefits touted about making sole. Sole is made simply by taking a glass jar of quality water and putting in tough salt that rocks remain at the bottom. Then once a day, some suggest doing this is the morning, some before bed, taking a teaspoon of the sole and mixing it in an 8 oz glass of water and drinking it. Supposedly it is really good for you because of all the minerals it contains. Is it really that good for us? What do you think?
Hi DR Berg, I am in ketosis. While doing IF for 24hrs + I will have a couple of Keto coffees a day with butter & MCT oil. My question is doing this, will I still burn my fat reserves? I am assuming so since the 2 coffees only amount to about 450 calories. So, even though I would burn the dietary fats first I should still burn my body’s fat reserves since being a male I need around 1800 + calories a day. Is my thinking correct in this? If you are not eating carbs and doing IF for 24hrs, your body is already producing ketones. It would be difficult to know it is the effect from your own ketones or from the Keto drink.
Ken Doll, I appreciate your advice. However, you must have misread my question to Dr. Berg. No where did I say was eating carbs or taking in 2500/3000 calories a day...fat or no fat. I am in ketosis and my question to the doctor had to do with taking in less than 500 calories a day doing a ‘fat fast’ with Bullet Proof coffee and its effect on burning my own fat reserves. By the way, I am not waisting my time and I am doing healthy Keto.
I followed keto diet to below 20gms carbs for 6 weeks only lost 3 lbs! Not too much calories, not too much protein and exercised 3x a week. Only 3 lbs! What was I doing wrong?? Frustrating!

Thanks for the education of Keto Diets. I was suffering from Fibromyalgia, all the associated problems. 4 weeks into Keto, thanks to my son and I’m having no Fibro symptoms, have gone from muffin top to tortilla top. Almost 65 and feeling a whole lot younger.
People loosing weight is really simple. You don't have to exercise a lot to get in a very nice shape (unless you are shooting a Batman movie). Diet is the A&Z. I cut off sugar and alcohol and all unhealthy carbs from my diet 2 months ago, and barely did any training. The result: I lost 11 Kg (kept most of my muscle mass) and still counting. So its really all about what you eat.... and be patient, its going to happen...
A k eto drink may be different from ketones. Read the label on calories or carbs, and what is it made of? Either way if your lowering your carbs that is what works. I cut out all sugar and breads and started to loose some weight. Then stopped pasta and potatoes. Then carrots were limited to a little in my coleslaw. I then limited fats for cooking and use bullion to stir fry instead. Also no bananas at all then after 10 pound loss I have a small half cup bowl of ice cream with no candies or syrup..once a week.. then I had a tbsp here and there but that's it.. I got to the point that sweets were not appealing. A small piece of dark chocolate was great too. I avoid grapes but sometimes have watermelon. If I stopped looking weight I go back to eating more salads and little dressings that were light.. low carb. I lost 45 pounds.
+brandy b Hi again. I visited their homepage and looked into the nutrition facts. It looks like the shakes are meal replacement drinks, with not much nutritional value. It just match the macros, with some vitamins and minerals. The MCT oil in it, will be converted to ketones directly and might give some energy boost. Did you felt something ? The company has some products with exogenous ketones, BHB ... . If you're not endurance athlete or have lack of energy , then there is no need to buy BHB salts and esters. Just let your body produce your own ketones.
I would love to come to the summit. Would you consider having it in the summer instead of Fall. I teach and school begins in the Fall it would be very difficult to leave at that time, Dr. Berg? If you must have it in the Fall, is it possible to have it in November? How long is the Summit?

If the body uses mostly FAT to fuel the MAJORITY (except for the brain & heart that needs ketones) of the body, then WHY would using exogenous ketones slow down weight loss???
Our liver makes ketones from either our food or our body fat. Give it ketones in a pill and the liver will stop making ketones from our fat - stops weight loss. Note: from your comment I can see someone or something has caused a confusion for you. The body and the brain and heart, etc will burn ketones made from body fat or dietary fat or ketone pills. The small amount of carb that our body needs can actually be made by our body. Hope this helps clarify that for you. 😀

I get that taking exogenous ketones stops the liver producing endogenous ketones (for a couple of hours, just like alcohol does too) but the body will still be burning fatty acids, because not all of our fat is sent to make ketones, most of it is used by the body directly as fuel. That's why we often pee (acetoacetate) or breath (acetones) out ketones instead of using them all up as fuel. I do think exogenous ketones is a waste of money though (unless someone is epileptic or does high-intensity sports) because when not used you're literally p*ssing your money away lol
