The Normality Trap (And how to escape)

- This is a video I made a while back, but took a month to get the clips. I originally wrote this as an essay for my English class but realized it could make a good video. In the video, I explain the dangers of staying normal and comfortable where you are, and how escaping changes your life. Enjoy!

The content was not only informative but also very engaging. I'm looking forward to more.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
It’s so nice to see this pop up in my feed. As of today, I’m on day 552 of my lifestyle change. So far, I’ve lost 101 pounds, I feel a lot more positive minded, have a better relationship with my wife, children and friends, more physically, mentally, and spiritually aware and responsible. I’m truly happy to be on this journey, and seeing more wholesome, simple and sincere content like this is a wonderful boost. Please keep it up! You’ve just earned yourself another subscriber.
Wow keep it up that's insane! 101 pounds is no easy feat!
@@wrkt. It is, mostly since I’ve had the mass on for so long that whenever anyone comments on it I’m still catching up to understanding just how much of a difference it is. I’m not quite to my ultimate goal for weight or physicality, but I’m certainly getting there. Plus, I’m still getting to where I want as far as my mental and spiritual goals, so I have plenty to work on and keep me busy.
Something I didn’t expect on the journey has been developing the mentally of “why not?” Like, “why not try this new technique?” “Why not go on this nature hike?” “Why not try this new hobby? That looks kinda cool,” and then doing it for the sake of doing it and because you want to. Not because you’re told to or expected to. Life certainly has gotten more fulfilling and worthwhile, especially with my family.
@@damienolsen8637 That's amazing man! I am gonna start to use the why not strategy! Thank you for inspiring me!

Thank you! 😄
Yo man love your shit. I honestly think we need more true and honest people like you on this platform, or overall in life. I'm currently 14 and I'm tryna find where I wanna go in life. I've been kinda like balancing between the Andrew Tate or David Goggins mentality and I've decided to totally drop the Tate bs. Or like the: you have be a millionaire at 24 years of age. Most of these finance mfs are painting a fake picture and tryna sell some course to make money for themselves. Or maybe I'm wrong and being too skeptical. But anyways, this is the reason why I respect honest people like you. I just thought to myself: why am I worrying about being a millionaire when my aunt who is currently 83 told me that she was still playing with dolls at my age. Maybe the year gap explains it but still. Kids just aren't kids anymore. But ofc this just my view, I'm no philosopher. I just want to be happy at the end of the day but not lazy.
So I want to ask you.
I wan't to gain muscle, look the best I can naturally (none of that plastic surgery shit) and maybe find a partner in life. And at the same time I want to be a tough person mentally too. I've tried that David Goggins shit and my best achievements are: ran 15 km in 2 hours and 30 mins in the sauna no breaks or drinking water. Took me exactly 3 months and I used inflicting pain on myself as a coping mechanism for the discomfort so ig I didn't do it legit. I know these aren't that good as achievements but they are my best and only proof that I ain't absolute shit.
Now problem.
I wan't to gain muscle and go on runs n shit. But I don't have enough money to buy money (Tf happened here. *To buy food) to fuel myself with. Here's when the money making and Tate shit comes in. But I'm to skeptical to try any of the shit these finance mfs are telling me to do. So I'm kinda stuck in a limbo of not being sure what to do.
Sorry for the yappathon man but I genuinely wish you all the best in life.
Damn thanks for sharing! 15 km is no easy task, especially in 2 hours! I cannot really give you advice about money, because I am still on my journey as well, but I can tell you what I did and what I am doing now. I tried the Andrew Tate style business like drop shipping and basically quit immediately. It wasn't purposeful, it was boring, and it felt like a scam. Not how I wanted to make money. Money is important to me, but I want to make it by helping people, not by selling cheap products. I do have a job which pays pretty well, but this RUclips thing I hope to grow through my experiences. I like it because I get to share mistakes I have made in order to help others, while always being motivated to go out and try new things. That is what I recommend, but again, I don't really have the credentials yet to give advice. Hope this helped!
@@wrkt. thanks bro I appreciate it
For 14 years old you're a lot more mature for your age than average. Keep that head screwed on tight and never stop learning.
In my experience, it's best to not worry about where you are going in life. Direction is a product of doing things that excite you. Your problem seems fun lol. Not to downplay it, but it seems like a difficult problem to solve.
Thanks for all the supportive comments, appreciate it yall
Great stuff man, keep crushing it
Thanks! Will do!
Man. This really resonated with me. I needed a kick up the ass from someone. Thank you, you just got yourself a sub.

beautiful and criminally low viewed for such a nice video
I appreciate it man! Thanks for commenting!
nice man
Thanks man!
I feel as though you went off on procrastination, bad health and addiction to phones and other things. You didn’t really talk about normality and just threw the word in with your other points to make them seem on point. A tip I have to is to stay on point but good video nevertheless and I would recommend a bit more shots of the city or something big to look up to. But again good job nevertheless.
Thanks for the feedback! For me at least, that is what I associate normality with which is why I talked about them a lot. What do you mean something big to look up to? Could you provide an example? Thank you!
@@wrkt. I don’t remember exactly the thing I saw this from but here is the jist: it was a man looking to the sky before they zoom out to the house then zoom out to the city the the country and then the world with a voiceover saying something. I feel this creates a sense of the bigger picture and for us to focus on it, as if we focus on small things the big things will never be done. Or it could be something to look up too like a statue of someone who did great things and for us to aspire to be them. I just feel that these shots can be really inspirational. I hope this explanation is sufficient though my explanation skills have fallen off recently.
Ah got it! Thanks for clarifying! Where I live, there aren’t really any statues or anything inspirational but I will look for some shots I can take.
@@wrkt. glad I could be of some assistance
Bro, honestly the shots of your calisthenics are inspiring enough.
those who viewed this gem are lucky
Thank you so much!
whats the background music?
It is Oneheart- Snowfall
@wrkt. Thanks a lot:)
love it!!
Thank you!
I have signed up for the military and am shipping off for basic training in a few weeks. Do you have an advice to stay strong or whatever?
I would say think of it as an opportunity to learn and grow, rather than something you NEED to stay strong for. I have not had an experience like that though so I wouldn’t really know. Good luck!

this is real
LET HIM COOK
I think you got copyrighted bro
What do you mean?
@@wrkt. you used snowfall as background music so you got copyrighted its a youtube policy bro
Ah yeah you’re right. It tells me on the upload screen. It says it’s allowed though. Thanks for the heads up though :)
I truly enjoyed that, and it was a very nice touch at the end. When you said this was a way to help you stop procrastinating, I enjoyed that.
Thank you for the kind words man! I really hope it gave you value!

Thank you for the kind comment! I hope for your growth as well!
sometimes watching tiktok until 3 am helps me deal with negative things
Hey man! I read your comment and I was just curious: do you think Tiktok really helps you DEAL with negative things in your life, or it just lets you escape for a few hours? From what I have learned, the first option would be something healthy and the second not as much. Maybe if you want, try to find a hobby or activity that is a bit healthier,, in order to deal with your negative problems man. I used to have tiktok and I thought the same, but all it really did was make me compare myself to others and make me feel worse. Maybe its different for you? Just my thoughts! Good luck!
@@wrkt. thanks for your thoughts! yes you are right. I think i misphrased myself. It helps me avoid certain things (mostly smaller problems). Tiktok or even youtube does not actually help me with solving and dealing with my actual problems. I’d say that comparing myself to others isn’t something that I focus on too much whilst being on those apps. It’s more so displacing my focus to things like other comedy/drama haha.
@@iamassyl Great reply! I agree, these apps are very good at displacing people's focus. I think about it like this: every time I open a social media app, it is a battle between my mind, trying to stay present and on task, and every single software engineer at the site, like youtube, trying to keep me on the site. I'd say the biggest thing that helped me was allowing a different activity to let me displace my focus. Mostly reading. I find it more productive, more relaxing, and I have been sleeping a LOT better than before. Hopefully this helps!
Hey! I just saw this video after I finished watching a video for a class and have to say it's motivated me to start being more productive. I've decided when I get home from school that I'm going to go for a walk (maybe ride my bike to mix things up) before starting on homework to refresh my brain & not sit around on my lazy bum doing nothing & avoid doing my homework. I feel like if I'm being productive at something else then it will motivate me to be more productive while doing things such as homework. I know I've definitely not done things because I've forgotten because I just haven't been motivated. This is just a start, but I plan to do more in the future and try to not live by the stupid social standards this world has set up. There don't seem to be as many people out there with great common sense. Thanks so much for making this video! It helps seeing other people do it and you should definitely have more people watching your stuff because it is awesome and definitely inspiring! 😄
*Also I agree with the US banning TikTok, but for a different reason. I think it is too addictive and people could be doing better things with their lives instead of staying up until 3 am. I definitely plan on trying to only be on electronics if it is for school work or if I'm texting with someone (but not for hours upon hours). If you're able to, try slowly decreasing your hours on TikTok everyone & go for a walk, enjoy nature, read a book, or sleep (if you don't get enough already). You may just find how great it feels to do things like that!
Thanks for sharing man! Taking a walk or biking sounds like a great idea! Being productive is always easier when you have momentum and taking walks is a great recharge activity. Let me know how it goes!
@@wrkt. Hey. So I went on a bike ride today and it was quite fun and refreshing. I think my motivation & proactiveness just gets depleted whenever I'm on my computer. Should I think about moving to somewhere else and call that my new workplace? Maybe my brain is just so used to going on other things instead of doing my work in this space. Do you have any suggestions on how to get rid of my urge to try doing something else on my computer instead of my homework? I can't just stop using my computer though because most of my work is online.
I am working on this as well. I have found that for me, the more I practice not procrastinating, the easier it gets to keep not procrastinating.
So a simple life in peace is wrong? So it's better to be addicted to productivity, hard work and all those things that ultimately do more harm than good?
In my opinion, yes. I don’t see how working towards a goal, being healthy, and trying to improve is unhealthy. Do you mind explaining that to me? That is just my opinion though. Dissagreements are welcome :)
The reminder we all needed.
Thank you man!
