I love it! You tell it like it is with no BS! Thanks for the candid review of the worst blades you've used. Rockwell's the only one I've ever even heard of, but I just started DE shaving a couple months ago.
@@shavingwithpegleg3813 for sure. So far, I've only tried the RK blades that came with the Henson AL13 mild, Feather, and Muhle. #1 Feather, #2 Muhle, and #3 RK. I still haven't tried all the brands in my sampler pack. What is your favorite daily blade? I'm sure you've said it on your channel, but I just found your channel today.
The Rockwells I got with T2 razor so don’t mind because they were free and only 5 blades. I thought the stranglet would be good because PAA products are mostly good. I almost went for the 100 pack but opted for just a 5 pack and so glad I did. Enjoy watching your videos you’re not afraid to tell it like it is
Thanks for the heads up… I have some Rockwells and Parker blades from buying one of each razor… Glad I didn’t try them yet and I will put them in the trash right away!!!! Life is too short to shave with a shitty blade
No problem with Parker blades. It is a bit rough on its first use. But becomes smoother from the second shave and get at least five shaves (3 passes/shave).
That's a pretty solid list of bad blades. Rockwell and RK blades top my list, they are both terrible and Henson gives you RK blades with their razors TERRIBLE. I agree with you on the Rockwell blades. Why would they give those blades away with their great Rockwell 6s/c ? Such good razors and the blades are poo.
Haha.... great list & twist on the top 5 blades! I actually don’t mind the Parker Blades but I only get 2 Shaves from them before the quality & Shave falls off. Funny when you said the PAA were “ Tug Masters” because I tried them & they were horrible! Lol Great Job Brother! 👍😎
Nice down to earth video. So what would you recommend to someone with sensitive skin, fine hair and new to saftey razor shaving. Could you tell me a couple of the ones I should try, as not every country has the same brands. I normally only shave every second day, as I have wery light coloured facial hair. Once again such a down to earth video.
Hard to wrong with the Astra green or blue even. They are a staple in DE shaving. Can you get India made Wilkinson Sword? Those are a milder blade but efficient. Just buy blades by the puck until you find one you really like then you can get a 100 pack.
@@shavingwithpegleg3813 thanks, only into my 2 week of using a safety razor. My skin is much better with just 2 passes. The 3rd pass gives me little red rash dots. So far from the Sample kit I like the Parker.
Where are the Wilkinson blades on your list? Those things cause irritation and cuts for no reason whatsoever. One explanation about the Swedish steel. That is not steel from Sweden, there is a steel grading chart and Swedish steel (SS) and supersteel are just grades of steel. You can make your own Swedish steel, you don't have to be Swedish.
I've used a few of those blades and can't get more than 2 shaves out of them. My worst of the list is the Dorco blades and they're barely one and one, they're very tuggy or feel like they pulling out the hairs.
There are some really terrible blades out there, but for many this list is subjective. A few factors determine the compatibility of a blade with skin. First, skin type. I prefer feather and gives the closest shave and…you’ve heard this all over the place…allows the razor to do the work. Next, the soap or cream…or, God forbid…foam you use. You’ll find that a blade performs differently with different types of lather medium. I prefer glycerine based vs tallow based. For some, tallow provides more cushion and is preferred over the slickness of glycerine. Next? The razor. Obviously, if you have a terrible blade, you should not use open comb. For many, even a good blade will rip skin apart with open comb or an adjustable with a huge blade gap. I believe at least a few on this list are truly bad right out of the wrapper. However, to go along with subjectivity…if you look at reviews…even some comments on here…what is shit to one user might be fine for another. I heard Dorco on here. Not my every day choice at all, but they do a decent job for at least a few shaves. Derby? Was the first blade I used when I started DE shaving over two decades ago. If it was that terrible, I probably would have stayed a cartridge shaver. Not great at all, but usable. Kai? Here is an expensive Japanese blade…Feather’s rival…that gets as many negative reviews as positive. Sharp? Yup. Close shave? Yup. Is it right for me? Nope. Will never buy one of those expensive skin removers again. To me, Kai doesn’t put emphasis on the coating they use. May as well shave your face with a very sharp Katana. Now, for what it’s worth, if you find a bunch of blades are not doing well for you, try what in my opinion is probably the best all around razor and best starter razor…the Edwin Jagger de89. This one tames all blades. On hot, humid days where more aggression is not wanted, it is still my go to over my Fatboy. After over 20 years it’s still in my rotation. Update: just checked out that Wowe razor…I believe the head is actually a de89 head…probably why you like that razor!! End point? One persons shit is another’s gold. And Vice versa. That’s why it may take awhile for someone to find the perfect match. It’s more than just the blade. Take your time, don’t get discouraged and have fun trying out new things. It’s what makes wet shaving fun and enjoyable. Now, to end…some pretty funny takes on the shit blades here 🙂
I have yet to find a DE razor blade made in China that is to my liking. My theory is that Chinese people are not hairy enough to require blades as sharp as Russians, Indians, or Pakistani's do. Swedish steel is very good stuff for axes and knives. But it seems to end badly when you ship it to China and turn it into razor blades. I am not sure why. IIRC, Shark makes a blade from Swedish steel. I haven't yet tried it out.
I'm working my way through a sampler right now and I have to agree with the Derby Extra, what a shitty blade. If you are ever gifted these blades this is my advice on how to make it good. Get a Gillette tech. You'll get at least 1 decent shave out of it as long as it's going through stubble and not long hair. A Derby Premium is far far better these have been the blades I've used the most. I have a spreadsheet going of how I rate all these blades out of 5 and the Derby Extra got a .5 I'm so glad I tested them cause I almost pulled the trigger on a pack of 200.
@@shavingwithpegleg3813appreciate your honesty. This morning I tried the Merkur Blades, sharper than the Parker. But it's the first time I felt the Alum Bar all over my face. But on a good side there is no red dots or bumps or rash
I have a few Parker blades that came with my Parker Variant, but I have never used one. I will leave them in the package. I really dislike Wilkinson Sword (too dull), Feather (too sharp). I do like Dorco platinum. Not the sharpest blade, but it is consistent over four shaves and ok on the fifth. I like Astra, Gillette platinum, Merkur, and Derby. I have some vintage Gillette Blue, Schlick, and Don Juan blades that I am looking forward to trying. Thanks for taking the time to warn us about potential shaving hazards… 🪒
All blades are personal. The Parkers may work for you, a lot like them, they just aren't for me. The WS are just ok for me while others love them. Dorco platinums are good for me too, not the best, but I can use them with no complaints and keep my skin. Have a great weekend.
