I'd rather listen to his opinions, right or wrong, than a great majority of the RUclipsrs disliking this video who believe it was worth disliking this video for that opinion alone.
@@mtorres723 he won 3 NCAA titles, 6 NBA titles, obviously his teammates had no issues working with him.he was coached by the john wooden, the greatest basketball coach ever & has old school values. the kids today aren't interested in hard work, I always pulled against his teams, but had tremendous respect for him as a ball player & more so as a moral human being. give Kareem the respect he deserves.
I agree with his statement that Duncan has had the better career between he and Kobe. More individual accolades, same number of Championships, and Duncan's never missed the playoffs or even won less than 50 games in his entire career (except for the lockout-shortened season of 1999, in which the Spurs won the Championship anyways).
What an intelligent person…. Kareem is the closest to modern example of Islam…. Middle East governments are the furthest away…. People living there then tend to follow that corrupt way of life . I e . Money is more important than morals .
Dirk Nowitzki a 1-Trick-Pony?! That's an absurd statement. Dirk has carried a team/city on his shoulders and held his own against other teams and squads that are stout with All-Star talent. Makes the players around him better just by having his presence on the floor. Very rare to see another individual in today's NBA that can do that. The man has done enough to impact players like LeBron that have stated to have "changed" them as a player when he went up against Dirk. It's been known as well that LeBron James on Dirk Nowitzki: 'One of my favorite players ever to play the game'. Nowitzki has fought from discrimination himself with the whole "soft" Europeans statements and become one of the most unique athletes to play the game of basket ball. He'll no doubt be a Hall of Famer and if I had to build an All Star team with talent from all generations, I'd personally pick Dirk over Jabbar in a life or death match.
+Bruce Lee I agree with most of what you said but honestly it did take a while for Dirk to develop that killer instinct! I have a lot of friends that are Mavs fans that agree with me on that. He didn't come into the league with that "win at all costs" mentality the way guys like Kobe, Isiah Thomas, Jordan, KG, etc did. I think the 2011 championship proved him to be more than a one trick pony, especially since every team they beat had multiple All-Stars (Portland, LA, OKC, Miami). Although to me, what separates him negatively from other legendary PFs is his inability to play individual defense or even rebound well for his size. (I know his rebounding #s have a lot to do with the fact that he shoots from outside but still). That's why I personally would much rather build around Tim Duncan or KG. He was definitely the first European franchise player and superstar in my opinion & he proved that it was possible to have a European player in that role. He was "discriminated" against legitimately early on in his career cuz no European player before him (in the 80s/90s) had ever been a superstar in that way. Sabonis might have been if he was drafted younger into the NBA, but that's about it. He also didn't get a lot of superstar treatment from the refs for that reason either, especially in that 2006 Finals. It's mostly cuz he wasn't a crossover athlete like so many American superstars.
what are you on about!? Dirk can't defend a lick. He is not a shot blocker and his stats show he wasn't a great passer. Learn the game before you harp up!
I would listen closer to Erwin "Magic" Johnson when he said: "My first pick would always be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!" I still think Kareem's analysis of basketball is point on, even if it is very unpopular! Don't get me wrong, I think Nowitzki was a great player however no match at all to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (and his skyhook)! 😍
+stefanlepro Just a question. Is it possible to have great foot work and play bad defense? I've seen Qb's with great technique play badly and those with bad technique play great.
+stefanlepro Huh? Why are you comparing Dirk's footwork to Duncan's when they play so differently? Duncan is a true Big and plays primarily down on the low block, while Dirk is primarily a jump shooter. Apples and Oranges.
+stefanlepro he might have good footwork but he isn't great at defense! lol...that's just a fact. He's pretty decent as a team defender, i'll give you that. Duncan is the best PF! Played both sides of the ball, could shoot mid-range shots, is/was a BEAST in the post, and is still doing it at almost 40!
+stefanlepro Okay i'm sorry, but when you say "the best when it comes to the PF position", I hope you are talking about CURRENT NBA players, because there are over 10 PF's in the history of the NBA that are 100 times better than Dirk could ever be. Elgin Baylor, Kevin McHale, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Bob Pettit, and so many more.
Please stop the bsts like Kareem needed Magic, Wilt needed West, Jordan nedded Pippen etc. Teams win championships, not players! No one won a championship by himself. NO ONE! This is not a point to a conversation about great players....
+mixkon1986 There's a difference between a team that is stacked with legendary players (80s Lakers and Celtis) and a team built around one superstar with multiple role players (2011 Mavs/90s Rockets). Arguably a team with better players that has also won championships is on paper a better team. Dirk's 2011 championship is a great accomplishment in that his team demolished multiple teams that had 2 or more All-star players! It's a fact that Kareem's Laker teams were STACKED (3 HOFers in addition to Kareem + multiple great players). You need teams to win rings, but there's always a difference between talent levels on teams.
+Fawad B OK i agree, but this point don't decreases Kareem, or Wilt or Jordan, because of other great players in their teams. Some times, you have one great player in a team, one ''big name'' but the work to victory is done by the others, the ''small names'' and instead. One the other hand, you have to notice the opponents....There are many many things but the truth is that every champion is a champion in every era and time!
+mixkon1986 Obviously, but i think it increases the greatness of Dirk and Hakeem to be able to win with no other HOF players on their teams! Part of the reason why Jordan's 6 rings are so great is cuz he won 6 rings with only 1 Hall of Fame teammate (Pippen), whereas the Lakers and Celtic teams had like 4 or 5 HOFers a piece! That doesn't diminish the greatness of Kareem, Bird, Magic, etc...but they did win with much more talented teams than Jordan or Dirk!
+Fawad B Think about that: all players like Pippen or Magic, Worthy etc were HOFers after their retirements, because of all-great things they did! So, the greatness is something after the championship, after the player career. Now you say Worthy! HOFer, Pippen! HOFer but at their times of playing, they were just the sf of Lakers and Bulls. OK sure, they were known as good athletes, but the greatness were going on....One the other hand, when a team has more good players in the roster, that made them winners (not all-time) but are lower at his stats and stats is the main point to compair great players. If Kareem was alone at LA with small names around him, maybe averaged 30 points a game! Generaly, i think many good stars in a team is a little more difficult to play together and reach the top. If you have 1 or 2 stars with different kinds of playing and 10 warriors around them, is more easy to road the game....
+Tuvwxyz Nope Don't hate on that Mavs team. Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, Peja Stojakovic, Shawn Marion , DeShawn Stevenson, and Tyson Chandler were all huge cogs on that title team as well. No doubt Dirk was the head-honcho but that was a lethal 3-point shooting squad.
+Tuvwxyz Nope who knows maybe magic who needed kareem however it's a team game so i mean by the same logic jordan needed pippen to win the rings ! don't be an idiot
+Brandon Van I think that the point he was trying to make in his inarticulate way was that Kareem had 2-3 HOFers on his championship teams. Those Lakers teams were STACKED: Magic, Worthy, and Jamal Wilkes are all HOFers! I don't think any of Dirk's Mavs teammates other than J-Kidd, who was 38 at the time, are going to the HOF! It was Dirk and a bunch of role players. I think that was the point lol
+Brandon Van Magic is the greatest PG, Robertson is the second greatest PG. Both are Top 15 all-time players. Hall of Famers. none of those guys future Hall of Famers besides Kidd. Kidd was 38 years old near retirement at the time.
Wow, Dirk has never been a dominant player and never will be.... only to be remembered for a shot that was good bc of his height, nothing special... he could have been a great player if he actually rebounded and played defense...- The Great Kareem So much wrong with this statement, Dirk is one of the greatest players of all time, versatile offensive weapon as well as a way above average rebounder! (He is number 8 in defensive rebounds of all time! only 400 behind Kareem, which he will get within the time of his career, so suck on that Kareem!) Obviously Dirk was never able to grab many offensive rebounds, because he is a stretch 4 and is more around the perimeter to drain these 3s than worry about an offensive rebound! You don't have to get the rebound when you don't miss! #nothingbutlovefordirk #swish41 #mffl
That was the most eloquent introduction of Kareem, kudos to the interviewer, that was pure class. Not one mention of his Basketball accolades. Wow.
All the dislikes I'm guessing are Dirk fans - because overall this video and interview was fantastic.
He's wrong about Dirk tho
Their is a reason why all the current players don't wanna work with Kareem because he's a ignorant grumpy old man.
I'd rather listen to his opinions, right or wrong, than a great majority of the RUclipsrs disliking this video who believe it was worth disliking this video for that opinion alone.

Kareem is the goat
Some of the best audience questions.

32:45 Earl Manigault... But if Earl passed the ball more he would have been a great player.
he got a point on dirk that's it and everybody loses their minds ! think about it if dirk can play more defense he would be more valuable that's it !
35:30 Kareem on Steph Curry
Dirk's career isn't even on the same cosmos when compared to Kareem's career.
lol Kareem still making YT mad all these years later.
How can you say that Nowitzki doesn't play defense? Just look at his footwork, THE best when it comes to PF position, right after him is Tim Duncan...
+stefanlepro Just a question. Is it possible to have great foot work and play bad defense? I've seen Qb's with great technique play badly and those with bad technique play great.
