Man, I wish that more games based on anime shows are like this, not just another copypaste arena fighter which is fun just for a moment then it's left to die. Imagine an open-world Jujutsu Kaisen jrpg game.
I’ve seen a few people cover this and talk fairly negative on it. Honestly just looking at it, seeing some gameplay, and trying the demo myself, it seems like a pretty neat game to me. I guess it’s just different strokes for different folks ‘n all, just seems odd that so many people have a low opinion of this one.
A lot of people are assuming the demo, which felt more like a mechanical or tech demo, was indicative of the whole game. Foolish, short-sighted assumption, but that’s the modern world for you. For a lot of people, this game will be at minimum a 7/10. Which is not bad at all. If you like the story and the world, probably closer to 8 or 8.5/10.
Concept wise its about the same as Metal max Xeno, another post-Apocalypse based Vehicle customization game set in a desert (most of the time) that also have extensive RPG mechanics of controlling mutiple rides and sometimes fight on foot with things like Bazookas and what not. Which is definitely a nice change of pace from all the `Arena fighter spam` we get for the majority of anime based games. Which is why stuff like it and Grand Blue Fantasy: Relink were definitely nice breath of fresh airs to bank on. The Demo itself did not give a fantastic first impression because it lacking any background music, you were locked to just one skill per helper, very limited customization, effectively next to nil on any looting or useful expansions to tempt people into playing the demo. Plus the Demo did not really SHOW ANY STORY AT ALL, meaning it felt severely like a Tech demo more then an actual game. Which further felt extra grating where in the silence you had the trio spout lines that felt like a repetitive loop while clearly trying to take a approach like God of War (The Asgard arc one) or Persona 5 by having background banter while outside of combat. Ironically the only reason i never bought metal max Xeno was because it was gonna get a HD remake supposedly and then there was the giant spooky amount of micro transactions plus backlog that shyed me away from it. AT this point i would rather wait to see the game cook and see how much of a drastic improvement it has over the demo. Since lacking even showing say the first chapter of the game`s story, not showing any of the stealth supposed mechanics, not having any looting of new weapon/customization parts, no REAL and useful reward from taking down named enemies with what appear to be only one time acquistion chests with most being temporary items and not even a shop to `restock` ways to restore your vehicle and unless sitting at a campfire would restore your vehicle hp, you were kinda jack-shite-outta-luck in the demo for forcing yourself to enjoy it. First turn impressions are critical to a game`s sucdess and even if something like Dragon Quest Monsters: Dark Prince`s demo especially was horribly loaded with bugs, terrible UI, janky feel slow-ness that made it felt like a poor quality version of a PS2 game that despite something like a nintendo switch should FAR out-strip a PS2 in turns of processing and quality control, atleast it had `some` engagement factor to make me slog thru its demo to reach monster synthesis... Though in both comparisons they were giant open baren areas with next to nil todo, just to repeat for Sand land`s demo, if you had maybe the chests give much easier to identify resources and maybe the TOWERS shown off in the demo had a much more realistic use that DOESNT get invalided if you already explored all around the area surrounding the tower to look for the parts to fix it, there by making any detection the radar do absolutely worthless, which may of been nice if it revealed respawnable chest locations, boost your resource acquistion gain and maybe cause a Desert Merchant to maybe spawn to sell junk parts for money to stock up on restorables to make it not feel like a DARK SOULS run in a barren desert with plenty of enemies who can giff tap you with machine gun shots and what not....yeah.

In terms of graphics, it's good. It's nicely rendered with cell-shading. The environments and characters reminded me of DBZ world but my biggest gripe about this game is the enemies A.I. level of difficulty in battle. Most enemies A.I. under normal difficulty is poor, to say the least. Enemies tend to just stand there and let you hit them. Enemies do attack but they do it in a "take turn" alternate pattern. For example, when you fight against two or more enemies in battle, you attack one while the others just either stand there blocking or run around wait for their turn. I get a sense that this game is for kids but even so, the enemies A.I. shouldn't be so predictable.
For all the people giving pixel slack for his review, remember it's an opinion. Pixel has plenty of reviews of games besides anime. Tell me really how many games you have played and beat in the last year compared to him. I can count on hand how many games i actually beat lately. I just buy a game when it's on sale or when you can afford to play it. If it does not interest you, then dont get it.
But, but people that played the demo say its awful. Their ridiculous opinion based on a tiny slice of game material that doesn't reflect the full game can't possibly be incorrect.
What’s worse is that they didn’t understand the purpose of the demo. It wasn’t to give away the story, it was to let you drive around and try the vehicles, while also toying with melee combat. It was just to give you a sense of some mechanics. How that wasn’t clear, is beyond me. The game is not an empty zone where you have no mission or objective, of course not, the demo is because the whole point is for you to run around in a tiny area and get a feel for the controls and mechanics.
Glad to see that others enjoy the game. But I will say, the biggest issue I have with it is the travel conversations between Beelzebub and Rao popping up too frequently. Someone made a bad call on setting up how often you hear it. And there's no mods to remedy such a thing.
But how is the ground combat? Because when I played the demo I found little reason to ever leave my vehicles during combat since most enemies had projectile weapons and my battle armor and tank were just more efficient.
I was interested in this one since its reveal for the art style alone, so I’m glad to see that it turned out well. Will probably pick it up at some point, but there are just so many games out right now… 😓
Eh, I feel like if this didn't have Toriyama's art style people wouldn't be so easy to forgive what is essentially the Ubisoft formula in an anime game. That being the one Big Hook (tank managment) minial amount of open objectives (claim a tower, clear out a base, explore a small dungeon) and the check list style of completing things, material collecting (The prince saying the same 5 LINES again and again and again) and mobs to kill when you aren't doing some variant of the other things. Which, despite what people say, The Ubisoft formula is fine. I like getting that dopamine rush of seeing a region completed and making sure all the chests are searched. Its just nothing i wanna pay 70 dollars for anymore. This looks like perfectly fine game to get at like.....30 dollars on Black Friday, but its far below a 9 in my personal opinion. Maybe a strong 5 or 6. This obviously isn't meant to knock the person who wrote the review, just giving my perspective on the internet as we all do, so I hope my comment isn't taken as rude :)
I feel like this game has a great story, but after playing the demo I didn't like a single thing about it. To start, I don't like open world games so this one needed to work hard to convince me but it didnt. Then the combat felt shallow; if youre driving or inside a mech the combat is easy, if you're not good luck. The dungeons seemed to big with little to do.
@@NoisyPixelNews ok! Thank you! If you don’t mind, can you share what all HUD elements can be hidden? I saw in the demo, minimap, vehicle button guide and NPC names can be hidden. But what about say damage numbers, ammo counter, speedometer for the vehicles? Also the quest log and item pick up notifications for more immersion? Thank you again!
I thought the demo was great.. it showcased how beautiful the graphics were while also showing the versatility of the combat.. Compared to other anime games this was a homerun.. i feel like we get so many anime games that are lazily thrown together with only Japanese voicelines..
To the people who bought this. How do I get paint brushes? It’s a currency needed to paint your Vehicles but idk where to find it. The game doesn’t tell you in anything regarding it.
@@NoisyPixelNews I really enjoyed the demo, but like the video title, the bar for anime games has been lower than I'd like. I would have been satisfied with a 7.
This looks like one I'll pick up on a Publisher sale. Looks my speed, but if I could it looks like a game I'd rent back in the day. Not to say it's a bad thing either, not every game needs to shift the paradigm of a genre. I'll enjoy it, but I'll enjoy it at a lower price point.
This looks like Steambot Chronicles except Toriyama and Mad Max. And also like a PS2 game, insofar as the obscure completion elements ...what I am saying is I have no complaints. Yes. More please.
Noisy pixel reviews are always trustworthy, you can tell they actually love games. Other review companies very obvious hate games and hate gamers, they are just doing it for a paycheck. Weird the industry is being taken over by them. Just bought it for PC after watching your review, thank you!
I think people just see us IGN or GameSpot, but I assure you we aren't. However, I think because we approach every game review with a quality, they often second guess our judgement and reserve their opinions until their favorite youtuber posts an unscripted video just talking about their experience. Which is a fine way to get your point across, there are a ton of more things that I'd like to talk about Sand Land that extend past the scope of this review, but we just roll with the punches.
Yea, too many review outlets don't know how to properly critique or engage with the game they're playing. Most seem to go in with pre-conceived notions of what they expect the game to be and either compare it to other games that may not even be the same genre or try to brute force it into something the game isn't. NoisyPixel is one of the few outlets I'm genuinely interested in.
I don't know anything about the source material and this actually wasn't high on my radar, but after the passing of Toriyama, this is a Day 1 pick up. After watching more and more coverage of the game, I was wrong to be sleeping on this game.
The lack of information on the map to help those who wish to platinum the game is surely worrisome. Not sure if I want to buy it full price if the game doesn't help me track everything I already done.
@@MunoKalesus And? That’s your opinion. Have you even played Stellar Blade? I’m throughly enjoying Stellar Blade. The combat is blast. Of coarse I’d play the game I’m more interested in first. What is the point of your comment?
@@dikardvondoom3574 nah stellar blade gameplay is done 1000 times better in sekiro with the parrying stuff , so for a guy like me who beat sekiro thers no reason to play a worse version of it hell no , sandland is more original but ill admit is a good game technically speaking but not my type i guess
@@MunoKalesus Not liking Stellar Blade because you beat Sekiro is just plain dumb. The parry system is mildly similar but the overall gameplay isn’t even close to the same. It’s ok to like more than one game in a genre. You’re not cheating on Sekiro by enjoying Stellar Blade. It’s not a competition. Your reasoning for not liking Stellar Blade sophomoric. That is to say, immature. You say Sand Land is original but it’s just Twisted Metal plus monsters. Either way, I’ll be enjoying both games, because I can appreciate multiple games in multiple genres.
this game is getting a bunch of 7's and it's so obvious there's bias against anime games. It looks stunning and super fun but somehow is considered worse than the average Assassins' Creed, BS.
20-ish hours if you just play the story from start to finish, no side quests or getting side-tracked/exploring/doing dungeons. You could easily get 35 to 40 out of it.
from the look of it the vehicle's design? Great the vehicle's gameplay? Great the mech/gundamn? Mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. But then again if they make that too good you aint gonna choose other vehicles
I mean, it’s not meant to look like anything other than Toriyama’s usual robot designs. It’s not meant to be a Gundam. You can dislike the design but it’s not really meant to be anything other than exactly what it is.
I hate how you have to keep pressing the X button on ps5 to keep the dialogue going. How tedious. Sometimes you press it and the character only delivers one word or a grunt before you have to press it again. I also hate how they keep repeating the same things over and over while you are driving around. Just why? Why? And how he says "I'll keep this. I may need it." EVERY single time you pick something up, or "Here we go" when you climb something. Fifty times. A hundred times. A thousand times. And when you loot a chest the text is so small you can't even read it so you don't even know what you're getting. Oh, and don't forget your side characters constantly telling you how to solve puzzles before you even have five seconds to think about it just in case you are that stupid. If you can even call them puzzles. "Look. There's some junk in the way. Maybe we should shoot it with our tank!" Duuuh. Would never have figured that out myself pal. I hate how, when you get out of your tank and take five steps away from it, it disappears, so now you have to go into the menu again, find it again and produce it again. Why??? These annoying things were a conscious decision that they made. They intentionally put these things in the game for some reason. And don't even get me started on the music. At least you can turn that off in the options menu unlike the endless repetitive banter.
This game already does Dragonball (and Akira Toriyama) better than a lot of modern Dragonball titles. KAKAROT promised an open world adventure experience like this across the story and worlds of DBZ. Instead, it gave us a walking simulator that jumps into an arena fighting game phase for combat. It’s really bad when Sagas, a bad and linear game, accomplished your mission better than you. I don’t know how hard it is to just make a proper DBZ adventure game, have it play like this with free combat, melee and energy attacks. I just don’t get it. If the complexity of all the techniques from Z makes it hard (again, they did it in Sagas), just make it Dragonball-centric, where the emphasis is 75% on fighting. A game covering the entirety of OG Dragonball in this exact style would be great. Sub a good looking Kid Goku in for Beelzebub here and you’re 95% there. It’s not hard, it’s easier now than it ever was, I’m just convinced they’re too lazy to do it. They’d rather cash in on crap like Xenoverse and KAKAROT. We could have had so many cooler, more interesting games by now. The technology is there. I just don’t get why these corporations are seemingly anti-fun. Forget how neat and fun of a game we could make, how much money can we make off these suckers who love the IP? Pathetic. The fact that this is a Bandai Namco title, one of the worst offenders of all, at least gives me some hope that they stop giving us trash in the future.
On god that dragon ball z kakarot game was trash and overrated , the Gameplay is horrible just spam circle and x thats all the gameplay is sand land is way better than kakarot , they really need to make better dbz games fr not just spamming two button and win , why cant they do a dbz game where u have to aim the Kamehameha or something something that requires skill

@@NoisyPixelNews Watching your review does make the demo feel barebones (which, in my opinion, they are). A bad demo can ruin a game, I guess. This is coming from someone who immediately bought Unicorn Overlord after finishing the 7-hour limit demo. Cool video...
Way better than KAKAROT. For one, this game is actually what it says it is. An open world action game. KAKAROT is a walking simulator that jumps into a bad arena fighting game phase for combat. KAKAROT is unbelievably clunky in comparison to this game.
Would you look at that, respecting the gamers, source material, and creator has led to a game being awesome! It's almost like this shit is easy! SUICIDE SQUAD!
it's a brilliant approach to game design that doesn't always work. Bandai basically did a TON of stuff, city sim, melee action, dungeon exploring, huge open world, but they didn't go too deep in any of them (although they did tie side quests to adding new citizens to your town, which is also smart), instead they put all the meat into story quality, tank warfare, and tank customization. It basically means you'll never be bored and always have something to do or invest your time into.
So cool to see an anime game that ISN'T an arena fighter.
haha, yea, I don't think we'll be seeing too much of those in the future. Fingers crossed.

Less Ubisoft, more Mad Max (2015). I don’t see/feel any Ubisoft in it, thankfully.
@@Kerunou Mad Max 2015 is a ubisoft formula game. It's a good one, better than this funnily enough, but it's very much a Ubisoft formula game
Well Stelar Blade will have to wait ill get this first thanks for the review
I love to see that score, I was hoping it’d be good mechanically because it’s so visually striking
Looks great! My only question is does Rao still offer a PS6 to prince to try and convince him to go on the adventure?
lol! Maaaaaybe
So much on HUD! I hope I can hide some if not all the HUD elements.
I'll be fine with those huds if its all on the side of the screen and the large ones be a little bit smaller
You can!
Which would you advise first? This or stellar blade? I think im leaning towards stellar blade. Can only buy one this month which do you think?
Stellar Blade. And make this like a June summer game :) before anime expo announcements in July
@NoisyPixelNews cheers my buddy! Will do! Thanks for all your work!
Broly as DLC 🎉
I thought the demo was great.. it showcased how beautiful the graphics were while also showing the versatility of the combat.. Compared to other anime games this was a homerun.. i feel like we get so many anime games that are lazily thrown together with only Japanese voicelines..
Re: Anime games, been waiting for a good SP campaign in a Gundam game since Side Story 0079 on the Dreamcast smh
I really enjoyed the demo and I also love the anime. Can't wait to get even more of the story out of this game!
So excited for this one! Was nervous about reviews but I just wanted to be in that world regardless.
You’re going to have a great time :)
I’m so glad to hear this game turned out well.
Already pre-ordered
Thank goodness we still have Japanese developers (and Korea)
Good thing I had this pre ordered. Had a hunch this would be good.
I'm so hyped for this game
one reasom i bought this game is i always liked the vehicles on dbz
This looks amazing. I’m gonna get it. Can’t believe IGN gave it a 6
IGN is rubbish top to bottom.
Seems like a mix of DBZ , Breath of the Wild , and Twisted metal..im in 100%
Anything from Toriyama is worth checking out
glad they improving anime open worlds, hope more to come!
To the people who bought this. How do I get paint brushes? It’s a currency needed to paint your Vehicles but idk where to find it. The game doesn’t tell you in anything regarding it.
Excellent review. I'm happily surprised with the score.
I was surprised I was having so much fun with it.
@@NoisyPixelNews I really enjoyed the demo, but like the video title, the bar for anime games has been lower than I'd like.
I would have been satisfied with a 7.
Great review 😁 So glad this game turned out well
Thanks :)
No that makes total sense. It’s a game that will wait for you, but I think it will always be a fun experience.
@@NoisyPixelNews Great review as always! Love the channel, keep up the great work.
Appreciate you!
This looks like Steambot Chronicles except Toriyama and Mad Max. And also like a PS2 game, insofar as the obscure completion elements
...what I am saying is I have no complaints. Yes. More please.
wow!! this looks amazing and pretty much what i wanted
it's wild because the demo was SO BAD
Ehhhh they gave spiderman 2 a 7.5 for not getting a review copy. Stay woke
Yea, too many review outlets don't know how to properly critique or engage with the game they're playing. Most seem to go in with pre-conceived notions of what they expect the game to be and either compare it to other games that may not even be the same genre or try to brute force it into something the game isn't. NoisyPixel is one of the few outlets I'm genuinely interested in.
in the demo the NPC said the same lines over and over again while exploring, is it still true in the full game?
No. Sometimes you might hear repeated skits later on but that’s like after 10 hours into the game.
@@NoisyPixelNews Once the story is finished, can you free roam and continue to play , explore the dungeons again ?
Demo didnt impress me but maybe the full release will
demo was shit i am glad that the game is not
The only review that i agree with ❤
I don't know anything about the source material and this actually wasn't high on my radar, but after the passing of Toriyama, this is a Day 1 pick up.
After watching more and more coverage of the game, I was wrong to be sleeping on this game.
It’s a lot of fun. I was surprised by how good it is.
I highly recommend the anime
Anyone know how big the demo is o.O?
CANT WAIT TO PLAY THIS GAME! (:
The lack of information on the map to help those who wish to platinum the game is surely worrisome. Not sure if I want to buy it full price if the game doesn't help me track everything I already done.
There’s no trophy for collecting everything I don’t think. It’s all for materials and weapons.
I hope they will fix this pretty soon or adress it.
This is a game where I think a guide isn’t necessary, exploration is key!
@@danzoEX oh for sure :) agree 100%
Sand Land is unfortunately releasing the same day as Stellar Blade. I’m definitely going to play Sand Land after Stellar Blade.
Sandland is better than stellar blade
@@MunoKalesus And? That’s your opinion. Have you even played Stellar Blade? I’m throughly enjoying Stellar Blade. The combat is blast. I’m sure I’ll enjoy Sand Land based off the demo but Stellar Blade combat is more my style. I like Souls-likes, hack-n-slash, & character action games more than shooters.
@@dikardvondoom3574 ur right, but i knew there was some sekiro inspiration
Story doesnt sound original but art style looks dope
The story follows closely to the anime, but it also explores more of the supporting cast.
What a beautiful review. Thank you :)
thank YOU!
I'm so glad this isnt another garbage arena fighter but a real proper game
definitely a black friday type of game
nothing wrong with that! get those buy 2 get 1s!
XenoVerse 1-2, db fighters...thought they raised the bar....I'm pretty sure they're has been gems...
This review on point 🤙
Amazing review 😊
Thanks. I'm all about this one.
Glad the score's good, it's gotten pretty mediocre scores from other outlets
this fallout4 ps5 and the crab for me good week for games.
This reminds me of Metal Saga.
i think that's why i liked it so much.
Oh yeah looks awesome
Biggest issue with anime games is that you have to watxh the anime to get it. They need to be like the batman games. Its own isolated story
The anime is worth it
@@mirzabros3618 im sure it is but its a missed oppurinity that so many anime games arent accessible
You guys going soft? Handing out 9s like it's Christmas!? (And I love it)
Haha we didn’t mean to :( there’s one more coming. These are all by different writers btw!
eiyuden was trashed tho! (just joking 7 isn't that low)
this game is getting a bunch of 7's and it's so obvious there's bias against anime games. It looks stunning and super fun but somehow is considered worse than the average Assassins' Creed, BS.
what about gameplay hours estimation?
Because this will cost me 15% of my monthly salary. So I hope it's at least 50+ hrs min (including side quests)
20-ish hours if you just play the story from start to finish, no side quests or getting side-tracked/exploring/doing dungeons. You could easily get 35 to 40 out of it.
@@Kerunou I see, thanks! I'll highly consider it then.
from the look of it
the vehicle's design? Great
the vehicle's gameplay? Great
the mech/gundamn? Mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
But then again if they make that too good you aint gonna choose other vehicles
I mean, it’s not meant to look like anything other than Toriyama’s usual robot designs. It’s not meant to be a Gundam. You can dislike the design but it’s not really meant to be anything other than exactly what it is.
I was interested in this for a while. When the demo came out, it bored me so much that I COMPLETELY lost interest.
First review on this I actually agree with.
That score, Wow! Are you certain?
IGN just shit on this game with a horrible low score,e I don't know who to believe

Nerd culture's over reliance on the word "epic" has hit it zenith in this review...
Can we fuckin kill it now?
but I already killed words like clucky.
@@NoisyPixelNews Well...if we're being honest, it was dead long before this review hit.
On god that dragon ball z kakarot game was trash and overrated , the Gameplay is horrible just spam circle and x thats all the gameplay is sand land is way better than kakarot , they really need to make better dbz games fr not just spamming two button and win , why cant they do a dbz game where u have to aim the Kamehameha or something something that requires skill
damn ann is a baddie
Thx!

I don’t know what the demo had in it.
@@NoisyPixelNews Watching your review does make the demo feel barebones (which, in my opinion, they are). A bad demo can ruin a game, I guess. This is coming from someone who immediately bought Unicorn Overlord after finishing the 7-hour limit demo.
Cool video...
A 9... really? Thats unexpected.
I know. I didn’t expect to have this much fun. But I’ll be honest, Sand Land took me away from FFVII Rebirth, which I’m still playing through - Azario
so, it isn´t a "kakarot in sandstorm dress"?
Way better than KAKAROT. For one, this game is actually what it says it is. An open world action game. KAKAROT is a walking simulator that jumps into a bad arena fighting game phase for combat. KAKAROT is unbelievably clunky in comparison to this game.
Demo didnt do this game any favors. My 70 is going to stellar blade
A better game than stellar blade?
Still conflicted about getting this game. Since there are other things coming out. And I really hate sand.
