You’re so right about Seiko dropping the ball and having QC issues. With watches like this, Citizen has an opportunity to really sweep in and take a lot of Seiko’s business. One can only hope!
Totally agree and I love Seiko.
Maybe for flying maybe so. But from a guy who did 4 deployments and spent all my time on the ground in Afghanistan I will have to respectfully disagree for the many reasons I stated in my video. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.
They already have swept in… As well as other brands… Most people don’t even know that psychos lost market share over the last five years
The hope is that Seiko gets even better. Seiko is still king of Japanese watches.
@@mistadopeman Totally agree, love my Seiko's, flaws and all lol
I appreciate you covering this brand and especially this particular model. It’s always been a great value for the money and a really tough dive watch with great military heritage.
Much appreciated and I totally agree.
Great Review. I have one as well. The "8204" on the case is the updated Miyota 8204 movement which enables hacking in addition to hand winding. The older 8203 movement only had hand hinding
Good info thanks for passing on.
I’m a seiko fan but I’ve had my eye on this watch with white dial and your right you can’t beat the old trustee automatic movement
I love Seiko. I mod and build seiko based watch’s. Citizen is definitely stepping up there game for sure.
The chair back makes you look like a super hero without looking like a super hero. Yeah!
Why thank you 😂
@@DivingIntoWatches-jb5ri I have a Longines VHP and a Hamilton Khaki Auto. But looking to buy a Citizen Eco Drive. I enjoyed your review. Thanks.
@@Scout-nj7xj gorgeous pure class watch’s. Nice pieces. This watch would be a nice addition to your collection.
Gorgeous watch. Totally agree.
Thanks for the comment.
It's crazy how much value you get with this watch. ISO certified 200m water resistance, military heritage, hacking, hand winding, quickset day/date. All that for around $200. Fun fact, the dial still show's the old Miyota movement (8203) while the case back shows the correct model that is inside: 8204.
That is a a cool point. I did not notice that. Thanks for info and watching and commenting.
I'm going to have to go look at mine lol. I just picked up the new Citizen Divers 200 Titanium all black. Loving it. Going to give it a good wear before I do a full review but so far super impressed with it. Again thanks for watching and commenting.
Such an awesome watch. Great review.
Here is a easy fix to the uncomfortable stiff watch band ! Put both band halfs (without the watch ) inside a cup curving with the cup walls , then pour boiling water into the cup covering the band halfs ! Let it sit for 4 - 5 minutes . Pour the water out and fill cold water into the cup for 2 minutes.
After that the band will fit snug to your wrist !
That’s some damn good advice! Thanks for sharing. I’m definitely going to do that. Thanks for sharing and watching.
I absolutely love my Citizen watch it's a beast of a watch it keeps perfect time I have it on a oyster bracelet
Aaaaaaaadd to cart! I want. Thanks for the video. I'm an eco-drive junkie, but I like this one for sure.
Awesome, I don’t think you will be disappointed at all. I have four eco-drive 😂. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great review. Just got the full lume version of this model myself, I can see now why it is rated as it is.
i wear pro master eco drive every day for years now its a great watch. i have been making a list of mechanical watches i want to get i am on disability now so my first mechanical will probably be my only for a long time. problem is there are so many choices and i love so many different watches its tough to make a choice. glad i found your channel great reviews.
Eco drive is a great watch. I understand about so many great watch’s and hard to choose. I’m sure whatever you get will be awesome.thanks for watching. Hope you subscribed.
I had seiko’s for years before I bought my first citizen. Never looked back at Seiko.
It’s great watch. I have several citizens and love them. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice review! I've had mine for a couple years. I always liked them but with the original 8203 movement they didn't hack. The ones with the 8204 do so that's when I finally bought one. I highly recommend the Islander Jubliee. It fits perfectly, and feels really well made. It gives the watch an more 80's vibe. The watch is heavy with it on but it gives a nice blingy look.
Awesome and thank you. I will check out that bracelet.
You can never unsee the underpants at 12 o'clock 😄
😂😂😂
Those are clearly diving shorts lol
@@MrBacchus18 😂
Love that watch it has that classic cool dive watch look and excellent quality.. and for me 15yrs on a battery or capacitor is nothing to sneeze at I can accept that. Great review thank you
Yes I'd like to see a review of the one you built
@@thereader7776 I will work into the rotation.
I just love mechanical old school feel. Yes 15 years is a long time on a capacitor for sure.
I agree… And I have a excellent condition NY 0040 that I wear on occasion… Citizen has made many watches of all different sizes with the case design, and DNA of these watches… Always looking to pick up another one and add to my 15+ citizen watch collection
I would say you are a Citizen fan for sure. I do love the four I own. I will be reviewing the others so stay tuned.
A real gem!
I had the full lume dial version which got discontinued a few years back and prices went crazy for a while. I sold mine for a healthy profit but always regretted it. They recently reissued them with an upgraded 8204 movement so I re-bought one and this time it's staying. I have mine on a strapcode super engineer bracelet.
That watch is gorgeous. Well now you have the upgraded movement so that is a good thing. Congrats on the watch and definitely a keeper.
Haha a healthy profit what the hell.what are you a fallout 4 merchant 🙂. Funny stuff.
The citizen NY-0040 and the seiko skx007 are the nicest looking watches ever!!!!!!I would love too own them but it's too expensive for me.Thanks for the video.
Yeah the skx models have gotten really expensive on the gray market. Glad I picked mine up before that. Thanks for watching.
Great Review!
I just got the blue dial NY0040, wearing it on a single pass strap from Maratac.
Easily an everyday wear watch, so light but tough.
The blue version looks terrible in the official advertising photos. In real life it is gorgeous! A beautiful rich, dark blue with subtle sunburst effect.
Probably the most comfortable diver I have worn (not including the stock strap).
The NY0040 is up there with the Orient Kamasu as the absolute kings of budget divers. Seiko can't compete at the same price ranges.
Orient is an excellent watch and they are owned by Citizen. I have a review coming on the new Mako-3 I just picked up. Kamasu is a great watch.
@@DivingIntoWatches-jb5ri Orient is owned by Epson, which is Seiko. Their movements are derivatives of of the old 6000 series Suwa made movements. And Suwa is now Epson.
The undercarriage case design is beyond amazing.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have one produced in 1993, This was confirmed by Citizen themselves via email. Perfect timing, just one scratch on the glass.
Wow that is awesome. That’s an old and still going. Proves the strength and reliability of citizen.
Great video thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Good shout on this citizen divers watch own a seiko SKX 007 & 009 they look similar like the French Marine Nationale type strap have them captain Willard turtle watch they are awesome cheers from the UK.
007 is one I don’t have and should have picked one up back in the day. Thanks for watching.
I chose well years ago so I am the proud owner of one of those. I got several good divers but this is definitely a keeper. By the way, I have been with it near 40 meters deep, the limit for my amateur diving certification.
Very cool. I did some diving back in the day when I was stationed in Hawaii. It’s an excellent watch for sure.
I prefer this to my SKX. Case shape and thickness is what does it for me. Also the glossy pitch black dial.
Long Island Watch sells a nice bracelet for those.
Yeah, I agree it is a totally awesome watch.
I really regret not getting an SKX when they where at reasonable prices , last when I was looking for one i ended up going down the citizen rabbit hole and snagged the ny-0040 and absolutely love it
The NY0040 is a solid watch . I love mine. I’m glad I did get a skx Pepsi back in the day.
Great review. !
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching and commenting.
That’s a smooth movement
Great video - thank you sir.
I just started getting into Citizen. So far I’ve picked up 3; an Eco Drive dress watch, a new NY0040 with the 8204 and an older first-gen NY0040 with the 8203. The 8203 I modded with the bezel insert, dial and hands from a NY2300. It looks totally 70’s.
6:12 PS - the movement on your watch is the Miyota 8204…
Good choice! Sounds like you are going down the rabbit hole. Thanks for the info, watching and commenting.
@@DivingIntoWatches-jb5riso I commented at the beginning of the video. I just saw the strap it came with. That’s definitely a strap for a Casio AMW320….
Surprisingly, still reasonable. But it’s true that they’re hard to find at such reasonable prices. I got mine a couple of day ago and it’s the Coke bezel with the updated dial and the updated movement all for $228 AUD. So not quite under $200 but man am I happy with this. What a gem of a watch.
That’s awesome, glad you got your hands on one. I think they will become more scarce as popularity continues to rise for Citizen and some their great older designs.
Picked one new a week ago and it was $169 USD.
@@Asianredneckwoman killer deal. Congratulation. You will love the watch.
Yeah I have a ton of straps and I pulled out the one that looked closest to what it came on. They all suck, I always change out the stock ones for either full FKM rubber or in this case the green nylon one.
I have the Pepsi version NY-0086. Great watch. I've regulated it to about +/-2 spd. I wear it on a blue single pass nylon. Love it.
Very nice. I regulate all my watch’s. I will probably do a video on regulating a movement eventually not has hard as it sounds. Thanks for the comment.
Please do a video on regulating the movement. @@DivingIntoWatches-jb5ri
@@paulgardner6388 that’s a good idea, I will look into putting a video together.
An auto is not ideal for military service as it is highly susceptible to damage. A quartz eco drive is far superior for worry free military service!!!!! I flew 20 years with a citizen skyhawk with no issues. Autos provide nostalgia and that’s all. You can buy an eco drive and not worry about the battery until you are retiring.
Tengo 2 el ny0040-17L y el ny0040-09W son maravillosos y visten muy bien son todas unas leyendas saludos de 🇵🇦👍

I've owned a few Seiko and Citizen watches. Both are amazing watches for the money. I'm wearing my Citizen Promaster Diver at this very moment. I bought one for $219.12 from Amazon. I Love it!
That’s a steal! Great job. It’s an awesome watch.
I really like the look of the pro master, the only thing that keeps me away (for now) is the mineral glass
It’s pretty damn durable. I have seen people swap out the mineral for a sapphire. That’s always an option. Thanks for watching and commenting.
The headrest on your chair gives you Spock ears
lol didn’t event notice that. My wife just made the same comment. 😂
Muahahahaha I just read this comment while watching and now can't unsee it!
Appreciate your thorough review. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Citizen Aqualand Duplex Titanium? I dive with that one and it’s been flawless! Not sure why it was made for such a relatively short period of time, but I love it! Tough and lightweight at the same time.
I will have to take a look at that one. I have the Citizen Promaster Aqualand BN2038-01L. Its the Pepsi dial one. I love it. I plan to do a full review on it. I will try to work in the review rotation over the next few weeks. Thanks for the comment and watching.

yeah its a great watch.
I have this and the eco drive version. I agree that they are excellent. I was surprised however that you mentioned your chronograph as a wr200. That is its water resistance of 200m not its model number.
You are absolutely correct. Its the calibre 2100. I had a brain fart. To many numbers in my head and getting old. Thanks for the catch. Cheers.

L love it! I have one!
Awesome you got a great watch for sure.
Regarding the strap, Long Island Watch sells Oyster and Jubilee style bracelets for this and a couple other Citizen models. He is also selling Citizen now.
Awesome. Mark at Long Island is great. I have bought a couple watch’s from him. They are on my list to review.
I was gonna get a jubilee today and he's sold out right now
The strap that was supplied with your watch appears to be a non standard Casio Duro style dive strap. The correct citizen dive strap is alot better quality. Edit i can see other peope have already mentioned it, so disregard. On another note it would be great if strapcode etc started to bring out aftermarket bracelets for citizen in the same way they support seiko.
Yeah the strap is very similar. I always change mine out. With the popularity growing maybe strap code will do that.
Long Island Watches got a oyster and jubilee bracelet for it
This watch has been around for years and is very popular for a person who wants a genuine diver , tough construction ,proven reliability and classic looks with proven pedigree. I am not American but i get the impression Citizen watches are not that ubiquitous there. In Australia this watch is as popular as the SKX before the SKX become such a thing. Citizen i heard are the biggest watch maker in the world? Put it this way everybody down here knows Citizen and this watch should be up there with the SKX for icon status. Surprises me that it’s not more famous over there from other videos I’ve seen. You just can’t kill it, great watch, one of the best they ever made and still do apparently.
Yeah citizen is know but not to level or following of seiko. With seiko prices and QC, the update on this watch citizen popularity is growing. It’s definitely an awesome watch. I worked with the 1st RAR on my last deployment to Afghanistan. Great bunch of guys. Cheers and thanks for the comment.
Just a small note: the strap you showed is not the original strap, it's crappy one from a Casio Duro, and I should know cause I have one on my wrist right now... The OEM rubber strap is much nicer!
Mine was basically the same and stiff and uncomfortable. I never keep the straps, I always up grade them.
Great review. This is my favourite go to watch. I have the full lume version myself. Very reliable, and comfy.
Subscribed!
Are the spring bars on the quick change straps thick enough at the lug holes?
Yes, I have never had an issue with them. They pop right in and hold the watch tightly.
I too have never had an issue the quick realize spring bars. They hold really well.
It is definitivley 42mm without crown!
I will re-measure mine and post a short with calibers on it.
Taking into account the materials used, the finishes and the caliber it is fitted with, I believe that its fair price is €180 euros list price, no more.
Value on an item is something that each person must decide. If you can pick one up $200 US, great. I also look other other things beyond just the finish and movement, but again that's for each person to decide what they feel they are willing to pay. I never judge anyone for what they pay for something as that's between them and the item. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@DivingIntoWatches-jb5ri Your speech makes a lot of sense, because it is based on objective data. The fact is that its folded sheet steel bracelet is really very poor. While the rubber one,It does not have a long life, because it makes it break quite easily. Furthermore, there is that play that the ring makes when pressed on it, because there is a space in which the sand is inserted with a certain ease. and finally it has normal mineral glass, and not sapphire. In fact, it was a friend of mine who had bought it who told me all these things. But I repeat, despite everything, with a fair list price, plus a little discount in the store, It's worth taking...without thinking twice. Because ultimately, he's a good diver. Thank you for your reply.
@@longobardialfonso8376 Hmm, I don't see that in this case as this one is the re-release with an update movement etc. As for the bracelet I always say in my videos that the area almost all watch makers skimp is on the bracelet and i typically will always change them out for a FKM rubber strap, better leather etc. I agree on the band. The original one sucked for sure.
@@DivingIntoWatches-jb5ri Luckily... you can easily go to the after market to find what you need to solve the problem!
I had one. It was a really nice watch, but the dial was just too tiny IRL and I had to let it go.
That’s a bummer.
Are the bezel clicks really quiet or did the mic just not pick it up?
The mic just didn’t pick it up, I would have had to pull the watch off camera to get it close enough to my mic. They are not loud but you hear it and it definitive.
@@DivingIntoWatches-jb5ri thanks, might pick this one up! Great review !
Enjoyed the video. Subscribed for all notifications. Two things. Your chairs design makes you look like an elf around your ears. And make sure your necklace isn’t hung up outside of your microphone. Subtle things like that are off putting to people visually. I do some portrait photography, not professionally but still, I’ve learned what puts people off. Your delivery will smooth out as you post more.
Appreciated, thanks for the input.

Hi nice watch does this watch feel weird crown being on the left does it sit the crown being on the left ?
Honestly, I thought it would at first. But you truly don’t notice the crown at all. Super comfortable to wear all day long. Can’t go wrong with this watch.
Sorry I meant to say does it dig being the crown on the left ? have to see one in person and try it out.
@@richardbosh4522 no it doesn’t dig in at all.
It should have come with rubber strap not plastic strap you showed in the video. The rubber strap it should come with is actually pretty decent.
Rubber would be nice. All the straps that have come on my citizen and seiko dive watch’s except for my aqualand and king turtle have been terrible.

Is the version with 8204 movement also ISO certified?

1998 to 2010= over a decade
which better seiko spb sumo pepsi or this citizen?
Oh boy lol. I guess if you are going for price, horology aspect, military history etc. The citizen. But if you can pull it off both lol. They are both awesome.
Bad movement imo vibrates a lot. Worse lume than skx. But i still prefer this. Maybe because of the size

Yeah I ditched the chair for videos lol.
I wanted to add, it is only gaining 5 seconds per day!
Not bad, and with a time-grapher you could probably regulate that out.
That's not an authentic citizenship stap. It's a replica casio strap very cheap. I think you got ripped off. You can find these new in the US for around $200. Also, are you aware this is the lefty model? Thats why the crown is on the left. It's made to be worn on the right hand. They make these with the crown on the right side as well.
It’s not a left model. Citizen makes many divers with the crown on the left. This watch was discontinued and recently reintroduced with an updated movements. Thanks for watching. As for the strap I have tons of factory ones from different watch’s and grabbed this one just to make the point of the quality which is the same as this citizen. It’s not from a Casio it’s from Aqualand I have that I bought early in my service days.
Not C3.

How many pro divers are there? I've never heard of one, except that story line in back to school.
None of you are swimmers. Just stop it.
I don’t think anyone in the comments or in the video said they were a pro diver lol.
As for pro divers the navy and coast guard have plenty, then there is the whole world of commercial divers. As for the video and I never mentioned pro diver. What? These are for SCUBA diving, not jumping into a pool.
