- Former Labor Minister Stephen Conroy says Australia's relationship with China is in a difficult place not because of anything the Morrison government has done, but due to "the behaviour of the Chinese government".
Australians have been warned they face the risk of arbitrary detention in China after the Department of Foreign Affairs upgraded its travel advice to the mainland.
The government advised Australians not to travel to China due to foreigners having been detained in Beijing for "endangering national security".
Mr Conroy told Sky News host Chris Kenny the Communist Party of China is "filthy" at Australia for a number of reasons.
"They are absolutely filthy that we have stood up to them on the rollout of the 5G network," he said.
"They are filthy about our criticism of them breaking their international treaty obligations in Hong Kong.
"They're filthy in us standing up to them in the South-China Sea ... and so the Chinese have decided they want to punish Australia".

Samsung Galaxy phones are now made in India. Just got a new phone two days ago. It works perfectly. My old Chinese brand phone (Xiaomi) was acting up. Google play wasn't working properly. *It was made for the international market. I bought it because it was cheap a few years ago. I'm not buying Chinese brand products ever again.

They have installed limits on withdraws from banks due to two days of bank runs in two Chinese provinces. International loans are drying up due to lack of investor confidence in any Chinese system or accountability.
It doesn't look good for China.

After a rather harrowing two and a half days travel, I'm finally back in Australia from China. The staff at the Shanghai airport were absoloutely awesome in making sure I got a flight home as soon as possible (for not having been able to catch a connecting flight to Japan).

the reason why the NBN still utilises the copper network is because NBN were negligent in the way they managed contractors and their contracts so they burnt through the money too fast. Contractors made ridiculous amounts of money for doing absolutely nothing. If you interviewed a handful of subcontractors that worked on the NBN scam you would discover horrifying negligence and outright criminal actions by the mid level contractors. This was handled worse than the insulation batting off scheme.
