@@grahammalkinson1439 On the American release it was deleted. American label decided that it would be too aggressive for American young audience. Big mistake. This intro was way ahead of its time, so apocalyptic, that it would withstand the test of time and will be taught at music shcools.
I love how this song is on fire but as soon as the solos start it becomes quieter and softer, leaving plenty of space for those bluesy/jazzy improvisations.
beginning of the first track is enough to send u waaaaay high up into the strastosphere! missing u heaps, jon.....long live ritchie, gillan, paicey and glover...my fav DP MKII lineup
such a beautiful link between metal and rock and roll... still got swing, but something so dark about that hammond, this is where gospel is transformed into hell fire.

Thrash bands have said this song was influential to them, but there is nothing "thrash" about this song. It's early heavy metal, and totally awesome, but its not thrash.
In my HUMBLE opinion this is Deep Purple's best album.... yes many will say "Machine Head" which is close... or maybe even "Burn" both are great albums also .... but it can't beat the raw aggressive hard edge style of this album... much of their best work is on this album... let me know what you other Deep Purple fans think... it's just my opinion...

Never been impressed with that scratchy, fuzzy, itchy distorted guitar noise thing at the beginning(We can't all like everything, but that's the great thing about music. If ya listen long enogh and push through the stuff you don't like, you're bound to hear something you do like.), but I love the way they transitioned it to make it seem like Lord was there the whole time when it was actually a fade in. Brilliantly executed move, and the rest of the song was great!
The American edit of the song just DOES. NOT. WORK. "Speed King" needs the "Woffle" introduction to play off of, to introduce the ferocity of Deep Purple as they enter boldly into this phase of their life. It adds so much to the song, as how hearing a car rev up adds to your appreciation of the piece of machinery.

I can feel the heat on this one 🔥🔥🔥
This whole album just grabs you. This band is constantly changing dynamics, riffs, speed. Great early metal/hard rock album.
At the beginning, when it goes from Blackmore's fierce guitar to Lord's soothing organ it's as if it's echoing down the centuries.
This is ROCK AND ROLL! Cheers!
No one ever ROCKED a Hammond Organ like Jon Lord. RIP.

So Powerful, That Guitar fuzz intro, Pure adrenaline, its like someone has grabbed you and just shook you to death, One of the best albums of all time
Totally agree that intro is one of the best of all time. Album brilliant aswell. Saw them at de montfort hall in the seventies awesome

For me Deep Purple will be the best band of the world. I am happy feel connected to his music. Deep Purple you are the best of the best.
Deep Purple is my favorite singer too! 😂 He’s the best guitar player too! Ian Overlord and Jon Blackmore are great too!

Fantastic hard rock song ❤❤❤
sounds much better to my vintage ears than the remastered version!
With you on that - mistakenly clicked without looking and thought WTF!!!!
Such a classy classic! 🎉
😱 First time that I’ve heard the intro! 🤘🏼Ian’s laugh is chilling.
God smile when Heard this ! 🙂 Year 1970 .....!!!!!!!! Not our fucking time 😐😷🖕

I used to have an In Rock t-shirt, with the Mount Rushmore cover on the front and the Perfect Strangers "DP" logo on the back. I wore it with pride.
I love this song

I couldn't get into this band when I was younger but I am going to do a deep Dive into DP

EVH took a LOT of inspiration from Ritchie. Which he never owned up to.
