Have the 2019 Roadmachine 02 three (105 rather than Ultegra). I use the standard equipped 28mm tires and it's a velvety smooth ride, yet fast and fun. I can't agree with the reviewer about comfort because if you opt for the Roubaix - which I rented in Calpe - it feels comfy but not sporty. I find the balance between comfort and speed to be what's so appealing about the Roadmachine.
I have 2018 Roadmachine RM02 Two (Ultegra) 61cm Frame - I am 193cm tall and weigh around 105kg. The bike has been brilliant for me - 10,000km of Club rides, sportive and solo endurance, pretty much all road riding with the occasional ‘gravel’ shortcut - no problem on 28mm tyres! The Roadmachine is also my preferred option (over my Trek Speed Concept) for hilly or wet Time Trials - I fit Deda Metal Blast bar extensions for the TT’s. I find the Roadmachine handling predictable and neutral. The mechanically proven Ultegra group set including hydraulic disc brakes has not given any problems. My 2018 bike came with DT Swiss E 1800 Spline 12mm Thru Axle Wheelset which has frankly got better since new! They are tubeless ready but I’ve not gone there yet. I use Conti GP 4000s ii’s with Vittoria Latex inners and bike is is like a magic carpet ride - super smooth. The Roadmachine ride is comparable to my Reynolds 925 lugged steel framed bike. (I swap to Conti GP 4 season and butyl tubes for English winter and notice the difference). Famous last words - not had puncture yet on this bike! Like the reviewer here, I swapped saddle for my preference and upgraded handlebar tape at first service. The review is fair and some of the issues for 2019 bike (at this spec) can be solved by swapping saddle, tyres and bar tape. The bike is ‘stand out’ and attracts positive comments from green eyed admirers!
Thanks for the honesty on the comfort front. I have a BMC GF02 which is meant to be a comfortable Grand Fondo type bike, but is not as good as my Cervelo R3 by some margin. BMC also seem more susceptible to speed wobble than other bikes, which has also been my experience. Did you detect any speed wobble?
I have the 2016 Roadmachine 02 Ultegra Disc, the reviewer is spot in terms of how fast it is. He doesnt mention the the top cone can be swapped out, the high topcone puts the geometry closer to the gran fondo while the low topcone put the geometry closer to the team machine. I disagree with the bike being uncomfortable, but than again I dont have access to as many bikes as the reviewer. Mine rides on Mavic Cosmic ProCarbons with 32mm (yes it can fit 32s) GP5000s and the ride is sublime, fast and glides over the road.
Comfort is always a tricky one to assess, but I feel it's harder than other bikes in this class I've ridden. I did wonder how much the wheels and tyres contributed to this though, but I didn't want to start upgrading it as I don't feel that's very helpful (or is it?). Your tyre should is a good one!
@@davidarthur You are right in regards to comfort, in this respect I only have 3 bikes to draw comparisons against and nothing like your selection of bikes you've experienced. Compared to my Alu Synpase, it is comparable in comfort. But the Synapse is riding on 25mm 4 Seasons where as the Roadmachine is on 32mm GP5000s. Im sure the Synapse would be more comfortable on 32mm GP5000s. Just shows how big a difference tires can makes. Great review btw :-)
BMC are excellent, fast bikes. Like you say the only nit is the cable routing on the mechanical Ultegra versions. If someone wants a cushy ride, get a fully suspended MTB with road tyres ;)
@@treyquattro I'm on 25 bikes in 23 years. I disagree that a ~4 lbs or less steel frame (non-air hardened) feels heavy. They might actually be heavier, but their suppleness can make them feel lighter, depending on tube profile of course as well as other factors like compact vs traditional geometry and straight vs curved fork. I also build my all my own wheels and bikes. :) It's personal preference in the end, but I've never heard someone prefer the ride quality of carbon or aluminum over steel. Heck I prefer steel over the titanium bikes I've had. Different type of spring. Springs are made of steel.
@@SurpriseMeJT horses for courses, as you imply. I'm sold on carbon. Even my "light" Reynolds steel road bike is like a boat anchor compared to my carbon bike. I also prefer the stiffness of the carbon frame, except it makes for a harsh ride on crappy roads.
I disagree. I believe the lack of integration and tubeless ready wheels is evident of the oposite. An evident attempt to upsell to more expensive teirs of the product line with an emphasis on what is desirable. If you want the tubeless function, then you need to also pay the extra asking price for Di2 as they bundle that in with the RM02 one. The ics, bar/stem combo is first available in the RM 01 frame. I desire bmc bikes but find the upsell general prices and 'upsell' strategy extremely frustrating as they further increase bike prices..
Good question. Cannondale Synapse Ultegra is £3000, Specialized Roubaix and Trek Domane are a little more, all with carbon frames and Ultegra groupsets, So lots of choice
messy cabling! Not impressed by the cost cutting! I like the way you always talk about the negative things that buyers themselves are thinking instead of skirting around them or just not talking about them! That's the reason I like listening to you.
Sloppy design Cable routing partly to blame Price point not competitive with the likes of canyon .most of these bikes are beginning to look quite homogeneous I’m heading back to steel for a real ride External cables and steadfast response
BMC like all the other brands realize most cyclists are old now. They are too old to ride a slammed position. So we see tall head tubes and stems sky high.
I bought a BMC Roadmachine. Whilst I am happy with the way it rides, the quality of the frame leaves me disappointed. During my first maintenance checks I noticed a manufacturing defect on the underside of the chainstay. I contacted the bike shop who reported back to me that the response from BMC was that because the manufacturing defect is not readily visible they find that it is acceptable to them and that I have to accept it.The point is that had I noticed this when purchasing I would not have purchased this bike and would have requested another one. On this basis I would not recommend BMC to anyone.
Too expensive. I ve bought a Giant TCR disc for half the money with Ultegra. I can 't see an advantage in this bike. Especially because the giant comes with excellent Tubeless tyres.
I paid half for the 2018 model. 30% clearance + trade in discount + £500 cash back Vitality perk = £1700 :-) I also have a Giant TCR with upgraded wheels, super light and great bike I agree. However, the big different is the transfer of power forward. The TCR is more twitchy. I also tested a Synapse and that was I agree more comfortable than this bike over real potholes and the like. But in m6 case I went for the RM because of how it felt when I gave it a good kick. For comfort and winter pothole riding, I live near the chilterns, I have a steel bike, Genesis Equilibrium. Another comfie one.
Indeed. I would rather use my old components and get a really nice steel frame and curved steel fork. The ride of this combination cannot be matched by any carbon.
Bought it. Love it. Best bike I've ever owned. Zero regrets!
have this bike and i upgraded the wheels to zipp 303s. I LOVE IT!

Charles Shaw is the 105 set come with the grey bike, and ultegra the red?
I have the same bike. Agree with you. I ride shitty roads and no more comfort needed I believe. With 30mm tyres I can ride on potholes all day long

Thank you for the honest appraisal, Dave.
I put 32mm. Tires on it and it's fit. Rims are Reynolds Assault LE (Limited Edition).
Sorry one question: the external cable routing is only due to the stem/handlebar? Or the frame is not compatible since it's not the RM01?
BMC Roadmachine three 2022 very compliant, extremely well balance, zero wobble hands off bars, composed yet with plenty of stiffness. Just buy one.

Agree on the cabling. It looks a bit naff and spoils the bike for me..
How Evans let this bike out to test by Really Dave I don’t know. The cables on mine are much cleaner. The transmission is silky smooth as well
Cmon now...how much did it weigh?
it seems to be a competent bike and all, but how is it's street cred compared to the SLR? X)

Lot of money to still have to upgrade parts, think the look is a nice one though🤙

Descending is becoming a ‘thing’ in many races now. Look at the damage Alaphilippe is doing to the UCI World field with disc brakes on his machine.
Do a review of a Focus Paralane. Fits mudguards and I hear it's got a springy ride.
I think we are waiting on a Focus Paralane
