The more i see gravel, the more i like the idea of having a road bike wich fits 25 and 28mm. And a MTB for really rough stuff, Just my opinion btw. As always awesome video.
I don't think I'd consider a new road that doesn't go up to 32 anymore.. 28 would be a bare minimum. Depends on the type of riding you do, but in some situations the gravel bike is more favorable than a mtb. My local CX series also bans mountain bikes for cat 2 and up, which is annoying :/
Nice review cruise..not too keen on the different colour scheme on the forks but I like the rest. I am still in two minds of getting a gravel bike/cx bike. For my commute and gravel/road on the weekend . I am a bit unsure about 40mm tyres on the road Monday to Friday?
I switch between my road bike / cx bike for my commute, but the CX bike is way more comfortable by far. The road bike feels pretty fast when I switch back to it though
Man this bike is so nice! I want this for my commute hehe. Your video footages are always on point, excellent quality. BTW, are you using an external Microphone particularly in this video? The sound is very clear.
I am looking at getting a gravel bike and I am glad I saw this review. I will put the BMC on my list. I like the integrated cables and appearance. I am curious about the "suspension" cushion in the rear. That SRAM groupset seemed extremely quite. I usually hear a chain slap or something.
The styling of the Unrestricted is not really the style I prefer (too angular), but I take your word for it that it was a good ride. How does the electric shifting get it's power? Is it a button cell battery or does it require something more powerful?
that's a great looking bike! great video! BTW have you done a video on your recording set up, ie different gear... because the mic setup is nice and clear!
What I didn't understand was if the Korean girl is a BMC rep in Korea or otherwise involved in the test ride. I think you mentioned she is starting a RUclips channel, but not clear if this is bicycle related. Were the other test riders also BMC reps? It may have been interesting if you spoke with others from around the globe more.
Most everyone in the ride is connected to the worldwide distributors, she's the ambassador for BMC Korea and is an actual rider/racer. She's the only one I knew from before the ride, but yeah I should've tried talking to more people in the video :/
i got those tires..wtb resolute.. for a race event in the clay of western north Carolina. absolutely amazing tires and roll way faster on pavement then the tread would appear.
First I thought you were riding in Germany - the environment is incredibly similar. We have the same kind of gravel roads over here and I actually ride the exact same tires on my Trek Checkpoint SL which is also (sort of) suspended in the back and I'm having pretty much the same experience when riding over rough Gravelroads - it just flies over it and you barely notice the rough surface. I also have Redshift Suspension stem, though, so I'm (kinda) fully suspended in that thing. Other than that - very similar to my setup so this video was quite interesting to me.
Those gravel roads looked pretty tame.. the 42mm tires looked like they helped out a LOT! Were they tubeless? I wounder if you could have done some single track?
Nice design. Would like to test ride the mechanical shifting system version. Been using 40mm Schwalbes on my mod'd Kuota Kross and ride difference btwn those and true 'cross 32's are something else. It was 38 celsius out and someone was sportng a gillet. Awesome.
I am looking for this bike in these colors, but nowhere to find anymore. What are the color names for this bike. Speckle gray with light blue....? Good to know so I can search the internet for it. Thanks!

But since I found out the price of the thing, I wouldn’t expect anything less from it. It’s way out of the price range of the casual rider. I’m sure those with money to burn, and the serious rider will enjoy this bike. Great vid 👍
I really like the blue fork accent. Seems like a good everything-bike, but I'm not sure it will take over the niches of "gravel race bike" or "dedicated bikepacking/touring bike". Just came across this review video. they call that bike a gravel bike ,but it's a road bike ? It must be like a hybird road bike with bigger tires. I never came across a bike with one in front and twelve speed in back ,sifters on right and left for up and down speeds. Usually three front and like 8 back. fast and takes the gravel roads. Great bike review and video !
Do you think this bike could double as a road bike without giving up much in terms of performance? Do you think you could do a road race or crit with the right tires and get nearly the same performance you would get from a strict road bike?

frostsmoke I Aldo like the BMCs from the mid 2010s that carried logos on every single tube, lol. It reminds me of an up and coming sportsman who pushes his way onto the scene with his outrageous ego which hasn’t really gotten its first taste of harsh reality. I guess BMC needed to establish their brand and design language before they could start removing the logos. I like understated bikes, that also means lack of logos, but lack of logos and small logos have become common, so they don’t really have the understating effect for me. Looking specifically at the Unrestricted, it looks a bit more utilitarian than what I’m used to from BMC. Big plus in my book, since I appreciate functional design. The paint job isn’t that special in my eyes, but they might have more to choose from. I will not buy it, even if i was looking for a gravel bike and with cash in hand. It is a little bit too fashionable for me atm, the whole “gravel-experience”. There’s a lot of marketing in there and I won’t buy anything before I feel I can discern what is practical and good, and what is pure marketing or selling of an idea. Also, have BMCs model names ever been understated? Lmao. But that’s what I like about them. I can’t take them too seriously, but I fell in love with them from the first gen Timemachine Road. And when you’re in love logic goes out the window.
@@nimaforoughi7266 I think the gravel hype is a positive thing ... about time the roadies realize that it's nicer to ride through nature than between cars. About the bike ... i wouldn't buy it either, but mostly because I love my Rohloff MTB.

Much of my riding is concentrated around my commute, so it took me some time to use the side roads more often. Also, your spot on about your mtb. And isn’t Rohloff manufacturing a somewhat advanced hub gear? I think i learned about them in a forum discussion about Pinion and Rohloff transmission systems.
@@nimaforoughi7266 Yeah, it's a hub gear. Expensive and somewhat on the heavy side but pretty much indestructible and almost maintenance-free. I don't think I'll ever buy a bike with derailleur gears again.

Is there gravel riding back in Japan? Haven’t seen a video yet from any of the Japanese channels I follow show casing gravel cycling.
Yes, but it's very limited and usually very far from the city. Most Japanese channels only do road..
Italy is so pretty. I love those country side roads.
I suspect that the subtle livery is a pre-release stealth livery. It will probably be closer to the rest of the range when it hits the shops.
this is the official look, should already be in some shops now..

This was my first time riding RED e-tap, and it blew me away..
All SRAM AXS groupsets have rear derailleurs with clutches, which greatly reduces chain slap and chain dropping.

Sram e-tap uses separate detachable batteries on each derailer. This one only uses a rear derailer, and usually the battery should last almost a month
