Shakespeare gave more psychological detail to human understanding than had hitherto been conceived. Moreover, he expressed this detail within history cycles that gave context to the individual psychology in society. People take the fine detail for granted now because his understanding has been absorbed into common conception. Some commentary in this thread pretend to outrun Shakespeare over time, but if you read Shakespeare with a keen eye you'll see he easily anticipated them in their timeless smallness.

Shakespeare stands for the universal aspect of literature and what is universal is usually timeless

And that’s the problem language evolves and is not timeless in the sense that it changes.

If anyone wants to know why Shakespeare's plays are total rubbish, and why many people believe they are not, and how he became famous, and why he is not even a true artist or great poet, read all of Tolstoy on Shakespeare. His essay of 8 chapters proves this so well. Go to:
The Project Gutenberg eBook of Tolstoy on Shakespeare, by Leo Tolstoy.
This is such a great work by Tolstoy in providing great insights even into what constitutes a truly artistic and great poetic work. Tolstoy was right in saying that Shakespeare was not even an average author.
The only thing is that when reading lines from Venus and Adonis, I realized that the author of this poem has great poetic ability. This yet did not come through with his other works in expressing anything worthy of praise. How can any of it be praiseworthy when it has no life? Even his sonnets are without life, and I could say I somewhat liked a couple out of 154. The actual substance of his work (the plays) is rubbish in spite of any poetic talent. It's one thing to have a writing talent, another thing to be a true artist or poet in using that talent for the greatest end.
If anyone doesn't agree with Tolstoy after reading his entire book/essay then there is a lack of understanding. Tolstoy proves the truth about Shakespeare.

Yes Shakespeare’s writings are full of ideological normalities and it challenges various ideals but the language it incorporates is obsolete and is currently not used, yes while most words are still used the frequency of use of those words varies for example the 5% of words he used that we don’t use are used in such frequency that it drowns out the rest that we do use. Shakespeare’s ideals and perspective on different things Can just be translated to a simpler more modern form as there is no reason for us to devolve language and continue using old language as it should naturally evolve to fit the times. Shakespeare, although a great figure and linguist is now obsolete and should be removed for the education system.

Shakespeare is difficult to understand and even then his writings are mostly irrelevant. He is one reason why many students dislike English lessons.
