Amidst all the talk about Artificial Intelligence disrupting the language learning scene, can we instead leverage it to inspire students to learn a language?

When I found out about this AI translator, I was disappointed. There's no point in making a lot of effort learning another language for years if you can translate something in seconds
As a Brit who speaks a number of other languages, I can reassure you the reactions and joy you get from people when you speak to them in their native language rather than using a translator, are well worth it.
If languages are to be seen as a mere exchange of basic information with no regard to feeling or nuance, then Google translate has been in our pockets for some while already. Chatting to someone via a translator is fun as a novelty but quickly reveals itself as clumsy and gets in the way if you really want to have a deep conversation without interruptions.
