While I love that you learned something from this video, it's actually a pretty big peeve of mine when people think these folks represent all Jewry, or even a significant portion of Jewry. They are by far the most visible Jews, and because many Chasidim live in isolation in juxtaposition to secular/non-Jewish neighborhoods, people are both scared and fascinated by them while simultaneously thinking this is what a typical Jew is. They are not typical. They are a small percentage of world Jewry, and while we (other Jews) have a lot in common, we also have a lot of differences. I would urge you to look up other sects and movements within Judaism if you really want to understand Jewish people

Great video as always. And you have a good instinct with some of your questions. The story of Chabad and their late leader is complicated to say the least. Many believe him to be the Messiah and that he's still alive. These beliefs are largely criticized and questioned by other Orthodox groups. Personally I'm a fan of the movement and respect their beliefs. But this is why you got brushed off (well, also mentioning your snake especially with women around 😂).

to answer that question about comparing the Rebbe to Jesus (really good question btw): As a rule, orthodox Judaism is opposed to the idea of human infallibility .It is definitely very opposed to the idea of inherent divinity within a human. However, no community of any people, Jewish or not, being led by a selfless leader would want to say negative things about the person they look up to. Additionally, since the average person is unaware of the many factors that a leader in a high position would weigh in making a decision, they would doubt their ability to judge the leaders actions accurately and to speak out against them in a true capacity. This all being said, there are rare instances where other similarly highly regarded leaders in the Jewish world may take a stance against one or more other leaders and the people would have to make a decision regarding whose judgement and approach they wish to follow. Also, most Jews are born into it and have little or no knowledge of the conversion experience, so it's easy for misunderstandings to flourish.

He speaks English with a strong middle-class liberal-conservative Dublin accent.
