Plus it shows that "old pistol boy" didn't have the situational awareness that it was too dangerous to land. That part of the scene was disappointing in that it didn't represent the SEALs in a positive light.

I know it’s for dramatic effect & remain true to actual events but I can’t imagine why anyone would’ve hesitated when that rope dropped esp after they say “fast infil” cuz in the time shown I’d guess at least 2-3 guys coulda been off the chopper. Still such a terrible tragedy yet such an engaging film.

In fact, assuming that he "would rather die with them then leave"--he made the wrong choice. They were there to rescue the SEALs that were in trouble. Plus, Lutrell didn't actually see the helo go down. He wasn't in the area where they were shot down. Hollywood went overboard with the artistic liberty.
There was so much wrong with this mission from the beginning. Search the deep dive videos into it on RUclips. It was doomed from the start. RIP to these soldiers.

And those Apaches were really needed...especially when backing up the Chinooks. Earlier before this scene, another SEAL team on Pavehawks was ready to go until they were grounded by the controller saying that their Helicopters can't take off without Apache Gunship cover, and those gunships are turning around to come back...thus it took way too long and were not even on time to support the Chinooks either.
The best part about this is all the bullshit Marcus told the word. The Afghan that saved his life said Marcus promised him the world. Money , freedom , a house. The only time he contacted him was when the movie came out. Strictly for PR. After the movie he didn’t return any of his calls. That should tell you a lot. Also, there were only about 20 enemy combatants.
Let's say there only were 20 combatants. They knew the area, they had motivation, and they were still 20 against 4 guys. These are still regular guys, not actual killing machines. Special Ops aren't even suppose to fight. Anyone who's done some military service knows that even if there were 20, they'd feel like a lot more. And once again, they (talis) were familiar with the terrain, which is the biggest factor here without a doubt. So don't you dare to shit on these guys, the fact that even one of them survived against "20" is incredible considering the circumstances

Seals, jaegers, rangers (what ever elite/special unit you'd like) are primarily recon units. They can fight, but they're not suppose to. Recon and special missions (take the UBL mission for an example). My main point was that these guys are men, even if they can aim their weapon faster and more accurately they still don't win wars. And once again, they (talis) were familiar with the terrain, which is the biggest factor here without a doubt.

But I feel like you underestimated the consequences in battle for a RECON unit, which is what they were.
Seals, jaegers, rangers (what ever elite/special unit you'd like) are primarily recon units. They can fight, but they're not suppose to.
Recon and special missions (take the UBL mission for an example).
My main point was that these guys are men, even if they can aim their weapon faster and more accurately they still don't win wars. Numbers and logistics do.
I just didn't like the "Also, there were only about 20 enemy combatants" part.

Why do most movies portray RPGs as guided munitions? The one in this scene took a hard right at the beginning. RPGs don't make turns in flight.
They also make them slow as hell. In reality you don’t see a rocket floating towards you like you do in most movies.
