  • Let’s examine and compare three common 70mm piston options for 212 and 223 engines. We will look at the Wildcat from EC Carburetors, the Tillotson and a generic from NR Racing.

I forgot to show the passages from the underside of the piston to the oil control ring. They are largest on the Wildcat piston and smallest on the generic "Predator" piston. I also should have mentioned the the longer skirt on the Predator piston could promote better ring seal although I feel the others are more than adequate. The longer skirt and taller compression height could give a bit longer service life too due to less piston rocking and side loading which means less wear.

I used the .570 piston (NR racing) in my 224 with the stock clone length 6270 ARC rod and was right at the deck, identical to the stock piston and rod. Sure I could have used the .550 piston and a plus 20 rod but it's just what I went with.
It's not a big deal because I do fairly mild builds. I'm just going for more than stock compression and use "economy" cams. My 224 has NR racing's 252 Rattlesnake cam. haha.
