Oh! My! Goodness!! O dont know ehere to begin, so... let me just say that, time flew watching this and i am way past my bedtime 😅 thank you so much for this tour and putying up tbis video! 😊 my subconscious mind has filled with lots of pretty visuals!
This is my favorite comment! Haha I’m so glad you enjoyed the video so much! I know my friends at Silva Orchids are watching and I’m sure this would make their day! The guys at Silva are rockstars!
thanks for taking the time to do this for us i know how much time and effort it takes and its so much better than the repotting and mounting videos that orchid channels on here seem to do all the time
Good to know where to get fully mature cattleyas in New England now. I bought my first three minis from Lowes during the summer just to try them out. I had them growing in an enclosed porch during the summer and waited for new roots to appear before repotting. Only this one is doing well though. I have it growing under an LED light until spring. Dialaelia Village Chief Perfume WCL (White with Purple Lip) I'm tempted to get new ones to put in hanging baskets outside during the summer.
You should definitely check Silva Orchids out! Maybe even consider some mounted orchids for the summer time. Just remember you have to keep them warm and cozy indoors in the winter! ;) Happy growing, Joe!
Rather unfortunate that Silva Orchids does Not have an actual on-line store :( Was jonesing to spend some $$ Btw, You mention your Love of the curved glass greenhouses? These are Lord & Burnham Greenhouses (still in business) and considered the Cadillac of the Greenhouses over the years.
I might recommend sending an email to them with the plants you may be interested in. They are fantastic and I am sure they would be more than happy to fulfill any order requests! :) that’s awesome information! Thank you so much! I don’t see glass greenhouses much anymore so this was really exciting! I’m glad to see they still build them! :) always appreciate your support! Thanks for viewing and commenting! :)
Ooh that’s a great question. I know we’re right in the middle of prime orchid blooming time so you might be in the sweet spot right now. I still have to make my way there soon!
Really happy about your orchid nursery tours. We get to see something quite special on your channel. I want to encourage you to get tips from the very best growers you meet. One thing I have noticed is you spreading common misconceptions about orchids a little. This is completely understandable. If you try to learn how to grow orchids and all your information comes from forums online I need you to realize what you get told is all lies. Not just a few lies. Everything. What most people "know" about orchids is just all wrong at the end of the day. Now I myself as a young grower like yourself have not figured out why yet. I have different theories. Like the people on forums are grumpy and purposefully spread lies. Or they are spiteful. Or just ignorant. It's hard to tell. Missorchidgirl has tried to debunk some of the common myths you get told but even she still believes in myths that lots of people believe that are just not true. Some myths if you grow long enough literally stop making any logical sense. Others are harder to figure out. Figuring out how to fertilize is something only a very experienced grower should be telling you about. Even half the professional nurseries will still be making mistakes. If you try to learn how to fertilize orchids online then you will get it wrong. You are better off following the label on the bottle than ask "the internet" how to grow orchids. There's many things that annoy me hearing people unwittingly spread that will ultimately harm the plants I love growing. The reason I have written this mainly was your comment saying that kingianum needs a cool down in order to grow it successfully. This is a myth. It can be grown cool. It is cool tolerant. I need you to realize there is a difference. And many times what people online have told you is lies. Grow these plants yourself and make your own conclusions otherwise many times you will unwittingly just repeat other peoples ignorance and come across either seemingly spiteful, grumpy or ignorant. Well not to most, most will unwittingly say wow, thank you for the tip... Ah what did I get myself into trying to figure out orchids. IT's quite fun actually, just realizing how little is known about them to me is frustrating. Well no that isn't true, the frustrating part is people just making up theories and insisting they are so... Like with the Kingianum for example. Anyway I can recommend you watch the orchid doc or nature nel to get a better understanding of what different species need or not. Thanks for the video
Hi Tom! Thank you for the feedback and the thoughtful comment. I will keep this in mind in the future. Appreciate you stopping by and watching! Hope to see you back again soon. :)
I partially agree with your comment. I think looking at forums to be a great way to figure out what works best for you. But I also understand listening to specialists. I know and work with some of the best orchid researchers and growers in the world at botanic gardens and NAOCC as well as Kew. Just because something works for them doesn’t mean it will work for you/ you have to replicate it to a T. It is important to read articles and look up information written by reputable sources. We are all constantly learning new things and new ways to do things.
I love the way you Show each orchid with its information. Terima Kasih from Malaysia 🇲🇾🌺
Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the video!

When do you think is the best time to see orchids at Longwood Gardens in PA?
