      I do think that angle is better and in the end, more productive. People who end up up in prisons are (most of the time) criminals, but they're not rabid animals. We can't just stick em in a cage and expect them to come out normal. You treat them like animals, you *get* animals. Prisons like this are good because they present opportunity. They don't take care of everything for you or pamper you like a prince, but they don't also throw you in a hole and leave you there for 23 hours a day for the next 10 years. They give you opportunity to learn and grow and earn your keep, just like society. The more you work, the more you get. If you don't want to take that opportunity, who knows, maybe you'll reoffend and the cycle repeats until you do something horrific and end with a death sentence or life-in-prison. If you put in the work, you can go out there and reconnect with your family and end up with a job, and have a chance to live a civilian life.

And even though people do not want prisoners to have a nice place in prison, it is for sure a needed thing to keep them from turning into even worse human beings and having no reason to change and not know how the world works once out. This gives them something to work towards and and work on self and understand where the world is at when they are getting out.

      Although I agree with this solution unfortunately this could also backfire. My reason: because this looks "friendly" enough to not make imprisonment a thing to be scared of when one intends to act in a criminal way. I dare to say that people that find it hard to integrate into society could actively seek to get in in one of this. There must be an element of fear of consequences, otherwise people will do literally what they want with no care.

      exactly, this prison is disappointing. They're treating prisoners like they're just regular people; they're not. they're criminals who are there for a reason. The whole point of prison is to induce regret and disappointment by cutting you off from the outside world and reducing your entire existence to a number. That sense of isolation is what makes a prison what it is. This joke of a "prison" is doing none of that. They're letting criminals have education and go to jobs? What's the difference from the outside world then? How's that supposed to induce regret? Look at the prisoner arun talked to; look how fkn fit that man is. HOW is that the body of someone who's in prison? They're supposed to feed prisoners the bare minimum to survive. People are supposed to DREAD going to prison. Does that man look like someone who's dreading being there? No. Does he look AT ALL remorseful or sad ? No. He does not. This is NOT a prison. Its a waste of money.

    • @verystrongchild
      @verystrongchild 5 месяцев назад +51

      @@DumKump the main goals of legal punishment are retribution, protection, reformation, and vindication. it would be a human rights abuse to put prisoners in the conditions you're describing (feeding prisoners the bare minimum to survive, etc). while your ideal prison seems to focus on vindication, this prison seems to focus on reformation. the idea is that if you don't prepare prisoners for real jobs once they get released, they'll end up in organized crime as a means of income, or ending up back in whatever situation it was that led to them committing the crime that got them in there in the first place. idk about you but i'm not a fan of organized crime, and i'm also not a fan of human rights abuses, including against those who commit crimes. while i don't believe prison should be an enjoyable experience, i do believe that it should be an opportunity for the prisoners to change, so that society as a whole can improve.

    This is dystopian, between the light hearted tone, the editing style, the upbeat music. It just sets the tone for the celebration of a system based on reactionary enforcement tactics instead of preventative measures. The video is devoid of depth and doesn’t even address the relationship between crime, racial motivation, & poverty. On top of that this seems such a waste of resources, “if you lose 1 key the prison has to be put on lockdown and it would cost 2,000,000 dollars to rekey the whole prison” Is that not insane, why not spend that money on social work to prevent crime? Imagine there are 200 people responsible for these keys, and only 10% loose there keys through 5 years, thats 40 million dollars. How is that advanced? “If someone comes on to the camera that wasn’t supposed to be there it will shut off” thats Orwellian. What if a guy is talking to his wife and he doesn’t know their child is home from school sick and they just happen to stroll into the line of sight. They just shut it down? That’s not security, it’s just cruel. I get some of y’all are detached from the justice system, due in part to your geography, and your parents class but most “criminals”don’t have that privilege. And before you reply to this comment about me being wrong, and how choices have consequences, or some point along the same line i implore you please read the bookings institute’s study on crime and poverty. Yes, choices matter but 20 year old born to a retail worker in Baltimore does not have the same choices as the son of some finance magnate in Kensington.
