    Wow. I live in Shrewsbury (monkmoor) and i never even knew about this. I don't go into the town centre very often, especially in Jan, Feb.

    Thank you for showing us Robin. Hope the flooding is starting to subside.

    This video brought back memories. As a child born in Shrewsbury in the sixties, my parents ran The London Apprentice pub in Coton Hill (now flats in it's place) the river used to come all along the pub carpark and I couldn't get to school. I no longer live here, it's crazy this is still happening. Great Video well done.

    Glad i'm not living in Shrewsbury anymore. I've been in Colombia for 6 months now and haven't even seen rain this year. Loving it

    When will Shrewsbury just get and trench out the river so its deeper and stops this happing year after year... flood defence has only pushed the volume of water to other places now and protected the council building.. 🙄
    Lovely bit of footage to display how bad it gets too thanks 👍

    Bottom of the cop, I remember in 1963 walking on duck boards from the English bridge to the bottom of the cop, even though it’s bad I’ve seen it worse.

    • @robinmager
      @robinmager  2 года назад

      63 is before my time but I do remember walking over duck boards at Frankwell, maybe in 2000. I don't think the levels were as high then either so it proves the flood defences do work, in that area at least.

    How many more floods can Shrewsbury stand? Has the council not got a contingency plan? Must be a nightmare to get insurance in the town centre.

    • @user-hq7dh9nr6r
      @user-hq7dh9nr6r 2 года назад

      The contingency plan is a bypass, which for some reason many locals voted against. I think people in Shrewsbury like the drama

    • @robinmager

      Most of the old buildings are above the flood line. Perhaps they were a bit more savvy about floods?! The ones that do flood have seen worse and survived.

    Nice Nisei man.. I live in town and this year didn't properly look around? So good to see your videos. You were Literally running around.. did you get strange looks at times?

    • @robinmager
      @robinmager  2 года назад +1

      Yes I was literally running around. The most pleasant running routes around town are through the green spaces, and most of those have only survived and not been built on due to the fact they flood. So when the waters rise I have to find other routes. I do sometimes get strange looks, but running is becoming a bit more normal.

    • @robinmager
      @robinmager  2 года назад +1

      Yes, the consensus is that things are only likely to be getting worse. Personally I try my best not to add to the climate problem so most of my little adventures are from the front door, use public transport, or are combined with other journeys.

      @robinmager  2 года назад

      'Funny' isn't quite the word I would use, but I know what you mean. They're still building near streams, rivers and ponds in and around Shrewsbury so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm not adding more areas the next time I go round documenting the floods here!

  • @MsVanorak

    well - it's not going to be such an unusual thing. since covid restrictions lifted two houses in nearby streets have turned their front lawn over to tarmac for their cars - so that's loss of habitat, adding to global warming and creating run-off. Another has ripped up 30 ft of traditional farm type hedgerow and replaced it with wooden fence paneling which Eunice tried her best with - maybe next time!
