Amazing, you’ve got to be kidding! For the amount of tax money taken from the American people by force to support this inept bureaucratic institution we’re getting very little for are money.
Paul, I've got to tell you about my experience with the US Embassy in Manila Philippines in 2019. I could not even get past the Filipino guard outside next to the retaining wall. I was very surprised as a US citizen I was not welcome into my US Embassy without an appointment! I asked the guard very politely if I had no phone, lost passport, and no access to my money, how could I go in and get help from my US Embassy. He said you have to make an appointment, I was appalled and extremely upset with our government run US Embassy. US Embassies were built and operated to be an ambassador to the foreign country, are considered US soil within the US Embassy grounds, and were used as a sovereign place for US citizens who were in need of assistance. Please pass this on to the person so this will never happen to anyone again. This should never be allowed to happen to a US citizen!
I had the same problem with the British Embassy when I was trying to get my wife and son visas to travel to the UK. We were outside, with an infant in the blazing sun and we were refused entry. So, I went to the Dutch Embassy, where we were made welcome and I opted to spend 3 weeks in Europe - Netherlands, Belgium and France - as well as contribute USD$5000 to their economies rather than to the British economy. All the Dutch embassy required was proof of travel, proof of income/wealth/property as well as valid passports. All done in 3 days.

It is quite possible and very probable that many other countries like Canada and Australia work in similar ways as the USA in regard to the topics you discussed.
I think all embassies operate pretty much in the same way. It's good there's a guy in the US Embassy making contact in an effort to let people know what services are available. Years ago in the Dominican Republic I had my passport stolen and had to go to the British Embassy. They offered me 2 options 1. An emergency travel document to get me home immediately. 2. A replacement passport that would take 3 to 4 weeks. While they were sorting me out they dealt with a guy who had run out of cash. They paid for a local cheap hotel and a flight. He had to sign a document promising to repay the cost.
Not necessarily, because most enjoy the comforts of "diplomatic" perks and move-on to the next assignment. There's a REASON Mr. Embassy is making himself available, and it has everything to do with the US-PI VFA agreements. The US-PI expat community are the front lines for the coming expansion of US activity in the Philippines, ...and Asia.
I said it's good the guy at the US Embassy made contact. I can't comment on his reasons for doing so. My experience in the DR and comments are based on actual events. The UK has no special relationship with the Government of the DR. During my time working in the DR a colleague from Canada died in a road traffic collision. The Canadian Consulate stepped in and facilitated the repatriation of his body. The pending influx of military personnel to the Philippines may or may not be significant to the embassy but I think the Dept of Defence would handle any issues with Philippine interaction with military personnel and only request US Embassy assistance if required.
Thank you to the embassy for reaching out. That is a decent gesture. I hope it helps someone when it counts. There was an excellent American blogger there who died a couple years ago. Mike Cason. I wish he could have benefited from embassy help. (Giving him timely information on where to get good heart surgery or similar assistance) might have saved his life. His life was worth saving, too. He did not want to leave the Philippines to go back home, partly because he was not well off, financially. He had a practical work experience with various charities before he arrived, and also did real charity work and gave of his time and talents to help poor Philippines citizens in slums. He also volunteered with a cleft palette surgery organization. Mike was the opposite of the "ugly American". If anyone had told him the embassy might have been able to help him or if he had been visited by staff, his outcome might have been changed. I think he needed a heart transplant, which may have gotten him care back in the U.S., or someone to cut through the red tape and get him the best treatment. I knew of no better ambassador who deserved it more than him.
The whole time I am listening to this I'm thinking about the social capital you have created with your RUclips channel. I mean embassy big shots reaching out to you, that's clout. And you built it with a cheap camera, a rubber duck and some charm. Well done!

Well, I’m not American but hung in till the end anyway…very interesting video. I think it’s a stellar approach by the embassy to have unofficial ambassadors in the different regions. Way to go on your appointment. It also gives you a small edge in the event you ever need assistance having the direct line to help.
I could bet dollars to donuts that all western countries have the same or similar embassy assistance programs.
You've done a good job I think you're terrific and I watch you all the time and continue to do good work as far as I'm concerned you are number one my job in America I used to be a maintenance man for the housing authority working with my girlfriend lives in Cebu and hopefully I'll be going there next year thank you for your help
Paul this was one of your best videos. Great amount of good information for everyone. You. and Mae take care.
Great video Paul and good luck with your new mission. I think we as Americans have been blessed with what we have and I think a little payback is not too much to ask for, BUT don't not know when to say no. Coming from experience. Oh and I see your wife gave you some new class with that cool new couch cover. Nice
