    I honestly can’t tell if Harry was genuinely quiet and slightly nervous, or if he was just playing around. The audience was super receptive, he was being really dry and subtle but absolutely killing.

      I'm stoked I was able to watch him film a scene up in Washington back in 2015 for the return of Twin Peaks.

      @@JL-qo1hg Performing from a script on a set in front of a camera is a totally different skillset than being yourself conversationally on a talk show and playing to an audience.

    It's too late to change it now, but Letterman should not have cut him off when he was singing!! Harry Dean went from nervous to transported and he sang a Capella. My god, he was stunning--until cut off. other versions of him singing this song are usually with him older.

      Awesome. Harry and Dean Stockwell, were both brilliant. And, the gal, who played Harry's estranged wife, too. Natasha Kinski, I think. Love that one.

    This man has done everything (and did it extremely well!) from Alien, Cool Hand Luke to Paris, Texas.
    One of the best 'character actors' to ever grace the silver screen.

      And, Straight Time with Dustin Hoffman. Harry was in so many terrific films. I'd say he was the top character actor, in my time, anyway.

      @@waynej2608 . I saw the movie Straight Time in the theater way back. I don't recall Harry, but now I'm very curious about his performance. Thanks for the comment. Straight Time was the first movie in my opinion that Dustin Hoffman portrayed a dangerous person.

      @@bh8365 Yes, check it out again, Harry Dean has a significant role in it, as Hoffman's pal. Both actors are quite impressive in Straight Time, but then again, they generally are. Also, nice turns by Theresa Russell(wow!), Gary Busey and M. Emmitt Walsh.

    Damn I want that jacket he's wearing. Never seen anything like it. Looks French Algerian as it has shoulder rounds but the upper pockets are M51 style with 1 button.... Strange.
