Well, consider the limitations they had with the cartridge. On the N64, Shadows of the empire was a launch game for the system that shipped on an 8 MB cartridge, there was no way they could have fit video on the N64 at launch especially in a cartridge that small. Meanwhile the PC version came out a year after the original on the 64 and was shipped on a CD which had a whole ton more storage space than an N64 cartridge. So I wouldn't say it wasn't fair and that it was more of them working within their limitations.
@@chrisfratz Thanks for the explanation, all makes sense. Also I was joking when I said it wasn't fair. Of course there were limitations especially when compared to PC. I still loved the game on N64 game. I actually recently bought an N64 to replay this game and a few others from my childhood.
Thank you for posting this. I had no idea the PC was this high def nor included audio for the vocals. A truly great game and a massively under-appreciated entry in to Star Wars lore.
Wow did this bring back memories. I think this was the coolest game of my childhood. I remember how excited I was when this first came out on N64. 1997……..geez that seems so long ago lol
In 1997 I went on a campaign to get an n64 for my 12th birthday. Come November 1st I received an n64, this, Doom 64 and a memory card. At the time, this was next-gen unlike anything ever seen. Although it seems to run and look a bit better on PC and the cutscenes and added voice-over are nice additions.
I always enjoyed the secret ending to this and the N64 version. Dash is thought to be dead and here he is just riding off into the sunset & thinking about his next payday.
It's funny how I came to love the game back in the day, despite having an English version and having very limited knowledge of English during that time. And now I'm rewatching this and being like "Oh, now THAT's what all this is about."
I think with the amount of ports that have come out recently of games like Ep1 Racer, Jedi Knight (Outcast and Academy) and a few more, this should really come up next. I’d love to play this on Switch
Interesting. LE-B0 is voiced by the voice actor who later voiced Yalaren and the Clone Wars narrator. Dash Rendar is voiced by the voice actor who later voiced Canderous Ordo in KotOR 1 and 2.
This is still in my top 5 star wars game of all time. And it sucks that the movie got canceled for this story and Disney dimmed it not cannon even though George Lucas made it cannon in the special edition re-release of New hope. Damn you mickey mouse.
Yet the special additions are still in the Disney film. They just are telling other stories. It took 13 years for Dash Rendar to become canon. The idea was to create a story set between the films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and to explore all commercial possibilities of a full motion picture release without actually making a film. Sure people with special effects added the outrider in the special additions, but There is no authentical proof that George Lucas was trying to make Dash a canonical character. “While Lucasfilm always strived to keep the stories created for the EU consistent with our film and television content as well as internally consistent, Lucas always made it clear that he was not beholden to the EU. He set the films he created as the canon." -www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2019/08/guest-editorial-did-george-lucas-consider-the-expanded-universe-canon.html It's been 7 years since Disney bought Star Wars (Disney purchased Star Wars in October 30th 2012) and you're expecting Disney to cater to everything you grew up with? At least Disney is trying to make a cohesive narrative within its video games, comics, novelizations, other related books, animations and it's live action content. The EU was never canon in Star Wars according to George Lucas and Disney is striving to put in EU material and original material into their storytelling that is more vast than George Lucas's galaxy. I'm sorry you're discouraged with what Disney has done. But if you look up the facts and source material the EU was never canon and Disney is actually making a much bigger universe than George Lucas did in terms of cohesive narrative.
I like the fact Luke drags Dash out to ‘help him find the supercomputer’ then just waits outside and send Dash in to do it all. 🤣 Great upload by the way 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Something with this CGI and voice acting cutscenes, it doesn't give the game it's eerie vibe as its N64 version counterpart. The 2d read along cutscenes with the music in the background is what gives me the nostalgia. I bought the game on PC, and am seeing these for the first time, and it disgusts me, its not scary anymore. I need to find my N64 cartridge.
I was about to make my own comment about how spooky this game felt sometimes. I still feel it watching this PC version. I've never felt creeped out or worried when playing other Star Wars games. They usually are so action packed and upbeat. But SotE feels dark and dangerous. I like that feeling and hope a future Star Wars game can replicate it.
You guys hit the nail on the head.. the sewer level with the dianogas and that giant one in the end.. the creepy atmosphere along with having to read.. yes!!!
Man, i remember when this game came out! Didn't play the game, but I read the book and comics, as well as bought the soundtrack made specifically for the game. Just wondering how you were able to keep the music in the scenes without getting hit with by RUclips Copy-write?
Why doesn't Dish just use the force at 17:30. He could easily do a light Saber boomerang throw and kill, or at least really disadvantage Boba fett. Boba doesn't even use the force, so Dish could easily out maneuver him with force speed and force jump. Not realistic , AT ALL.
Dash Rendar is absolutely one of my favorite characters of any star wars story of there is, and it really is a shame they haven't made Shadows of the Empire into something more by now, it has the potential to be something huge.
All these cutscene weren't in the Nintendo 64 game. And I don't really remember playing against the Gladiator 28:00 (I played the great game 22 years ago) And in the Nintendo version you never see Dash making the light jump (I think, rellay don't remember that part) Anyway great game! The should remaster and. And very good cutscenes!

If they can make a movie out of young Solo, Rendar shouldn’t be too far behind.

Would this have made a better movie than the new trilogy?
Stop comparing everything. Shadows of the Empire is amazing, and I really love the new trilogy too
The new trilogy is trash. Disney is trash. Lucas was better off keeping it himself instead of giving it to Disney to fuck it up.

Disney needs to recanonize this and make it into a movie.
