    I've got the white dial being shipped now. I may very well have chosen the red if it were available, but I'm happy I wasn't faced with the choice, as I have a suspicion I'll get more enjoyment out of the white dial. IMO, it's the best dial because of its versatility & its sui generis looks...so precisely like a snowdrift or snowy wind-driven mountain peaks...it's the white dial Grand Seiko should have made, but did not. For me, this watch represents the experience of wearing a Grand Seiko at a more comfortable price point, & the movement is, imo, a substantial upgrade over the typical Swiss 38-hour movements so often placed in similar microbrands, especially as it's adjusted to (4) positions & doesn't have the winding issues. Can't freaking wait!

    Thanks, Ivan! Very impressive, beautiful watch. And the LJP movement is certainly an upgrade over the usual, faulty ETA2824/Sellita SW200.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Год назад +1

      Thanks for that - yep this movement is indeed a drop in match for the 2824 although I’m not sure it’s definitely an upgrade. Spec wise it certainly has a better power reserve.

    • @trogpo
      @trogpo Год назад +1

      @@PerthWAtch For me it's a big upgrade, as it doesn't suffer from the hand winding friction flaw that plagues the 2428/SW200. Every time I wind my SW200 watches, I can actually feel the friction getting worse and worse as I turn the crown: butter smooth at the beginning, but too much resistance after 7 turns or so. The LJP is based on the Miyota 9000s, and you can wind it all day long (not that I do!).

    6:26 yeah, lol, I'm not buying that. About a week ago, my neighbor gave me a pile of watches to repair in order to save him some cash. Mostly shitters, as Archieluxury would say, but there was one diamond in the rough: a gold tone dress Citizen eco-drive. Has sapphire. The links are very thin (they're thinner than the Mayen's links) and they are pieced together with one piece screws. Nice little watch. Unfortunately for him, he's going to need a new capacitor, or new movement.
    This "Jan Mayen" has a stunning dial. Good movement choice. I'm never bothered by unidirectional winding rotors. I'm not huge on red, so I'd opt for that beautiful emerald green.

    @johnvandeven2188 5 месяцев назад +1

    Ah yes.....La Joux Perret is owned wholly by Citizen Watch and this particular movement is from he 9000 series by Citizen and is Swiss made and decorated. I have heard the movements are quite expensive but superbly made. They make high quality movements that compete strongly with ETA and Sellita. It is one I would soure out but I am biased towards Citizen, Seiko and Casio.

    Love the dial (but I think that I have seen it before....not 100% sure though..) Besides the dial, not so much about other things. +1 a day is a great accuracy and longer 68 hr reserve is an additional plus for sure. Hate the clasp and hope that they can come up with some sort of on-the-fly adjustable clasp (it seems like almost everyone is going that way which is great news...). However, since the movement is the key to the most of automatic watches, and even you haven't even heard about that movement, I guess that we need to investigate the reliability of that movement more if someone is really serious about buying one. $1600? Yes, bit steep. However, since it is Swiss Made, perhaps around $1K might be the right price? Honestly, besides that gorgeous dial, the watch seems to be......mmm...generic, somewhat? I have seen that hands, case and especially bracelet and clasp so many times before....Ivan, thanks for the review, but I am not so much sold on that watch. take care.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Год назад +1

      Thanks Alex! Based on the info I’ve found it would appear that LJP is a genuinely reliable and reputable movement maker, and who have recently released movements which serve as drop in replacements for ETA calibres.
      Yep - the public have spoken, $1600 is indeed too high!
      I’m curious about your comment on the bracelet - the handset and clasp can be OEM for sure but I certainly haven’t seen this bracelet myself, not exactly this anyway and certainly not integrated like this. Where have you seen this before?

    • @alexsdg3441
      @alexsdg3441 Год назад +1

      @@PerthWAtch it might not be 100% exactly same, but at least 80 to 95% similar to many watches that has butterfly clasp & integrated bracelets. such as Ferragamo Elliptic, Sinaiki 22mm dress watch bracelet, San Martin SN0075, especially Patek Philippe 5712 (almost exactly same)...etc In my personal opinion, it is quite common and kind of boring bracelet which is about 20 years behind...

    • @mybrainlikesthings

      Maybe you wouldn't want me comparing a Seiko/King Seiko SPB365, which retails for about the same price, has a "turtle back" motif and similar visual style as Jan Mayan, and was made entirely by Seiko. Seiko is a well-known brand, with a worldwide distribution and support network. I do enjoy supporting the smaller names out there, but since this model is double the price of their previous one, and it's an outsourced model that ships directly from Switzerland (not Norway), I think that there may be some red flags...
