This may actually be my favorite video on the internet right now. I've been looking for interesting warm-ups and I'm really glad RUclips has kept your channel in my recommended feed
That's the exact idea behind an étude. It comes from French and literally means "study". They're pieces designed to help you perfect your technique that were also written to sound like beautiful music in its own right! With the added benefit of being much, much less boring. The video even says some of these ideas were taken from Chopin's études. Of course, the pianist in this video is incredible and is showing what these would look like at high speed. It's best to play them as fast as you can *without making any mistakes* and preferably with a metronome (maybe not all the time, but definitely not never either). If you try to blow through exercises like this at too fast a tempo you'll actually have the opposite effect and ruin your technique, becoming very sloppy and probably also hitting many wrong notes. If you get it down slowly into your "muscle memory", then when you do it faster you don't have to focus on every movement so much because you already know basically how it goes. That way you break it up into periods of learning the actual exercise/technique and then using it to improve your dexterity. It's probably best to think about your dynamics the whole time, though. I don't know, I'm not a piano teacher or anything. I'm just saying that this video basically captures the purpose of an étude, and does so very nicely if I may say so myself
I heard an amazing story during a piano teaching course first half of last year; Busoni was at an evening meal of friends/acquaintances and was asked to play by several of the guests. Apparently he was never keen on providing impromptu entertainment but was eventually persuaded to sit at the piano and he proceeded to play what was described as the most divine and heavenly rendition of scales and arpeggios and his audience was reportedly suitably transfixed. The lesson: approach every note with a sense of love.
Thank you so much!! I’m finally getting into advanced piano and I’m bored to death of of normal scales, arpeggios and broken chords after 12 years of playing them. Finally something new and refreshing!
Yeah i was following along, teaching myself the first little warm-up, than at 0:30 seconds in you go off like its nothing and i just lost it hahaha. Amazing.
I just wish you knew how much you have inspired me. I'm a classical pianist myself and have been working on building back my repertoire; Rach, Bach, Haydn, and Schubert, Chopin. It's lonely and no one is here to express myself to. But your voice and vision pinpoint exactly what is human and sublime about music. Your integrity and discipline makes me want to be a more spiritually well-rounded musician and human being. Just know that you have changed me. Thank you, Nahre. You bring me closer to what I love and hope for.
Hello Mark, it's so nice to read this from you, thank you for taking the time to write that. It brings me a lot of joy to hear that I made a difference through these videos. Have a lovely day!

But i have a hard time figuring out excersices to build dexterity between my two hands. My left hand is just jello compared to my right hand lol. I feel like these exercises will help me so much.
Jaime Johnson well buy a Hanon book it is filled with exercises that are essential, you've probably heard of Hanon if you've been playing piano for a while
Jaime Johnson Bach’s small preludes and fugues are the main reason my left hand is par with my right when I play, I’d recommend those for building co-dominance with the hands of you haven’t tried them, they’re really fun. I use Hanon too but it’s hard not to fall asleep while going through it
Speed and techniques are just the matter of practicing, self taught learners hv to beware of proper gesture and fingering so that ur hands wont get hurt, advice by me, also a self taught learner, cheers
How am I just seeing this now?? The progressions you did at the beginning were absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for posting this it was fun to hear how pianists do their thang :)

After 2 years I'm already playing Chopins Ocean Etude And Liszt Liebestraum No. 3 and Un Sospiro. You just have to practice.
@@violeta.s.v How did you learn? I started about 16 months ago and have definitely practiced wrong (not really training each section but going from start to finish) and am trying to fix that now, yet still got good results (“repertoire“ of only few songs but “hard“ for my time). Currently struggeling with rachmaninov's cis minor prelude and slowly getting the hang of it (after not injuring my hands anymore -.-). You're pretty much exactly where i want to be after 2 years of experience so i would like to know how you practiced
It'se me, well I practiced just like every pianist, I learned my scales, arpeggios, sixths, thirds and other techniques on the piano, I would practice for 4 hours a day. Non-stop. I didn't miss a single day of practice. I started to practice for 6 hours on the 7th day of playing piano. That's how it came to be. I don't really know how I got good at the piano that fast. Maybe I'm just a fast learner I don't know. I'm currently learning 2 Chopin etudes (Op. 10 No. 1 In C Major, Op. 25. No. 1 In A Flat Major) which they are both an ARCT level for the Royal Conservatory Of Music (I don't go there but I wish I did), and I'm also learning 2 EXTREMELY DIFFICULT Alkan pieces (Concert Etude In B-Flat Major "Le Preux", Scherzo-Focoso) But all I did was practice, and the other thing is, I didn't go to a single music school. My parents thought about it but they couldn't afford it. So I learned at home, by myself. Also since I practiced so much without a break, that managed to stretch out my fingers and hand span, I now I can reach an 11th (C To F, not a 4th) comfortably. I'm 13 btw.
Dang, how the hell could these exercises sound so good! I could play the first one all day. It's like a jazz improv but it works your fingers too.
