Man, I am one of the biggest CS fans ever, and this was an AMAZING show!! I have always liked this Ozzy song, and to hear them play this, it just blew my mind!! =D
When bands sign other bands songs, they don't do it to copy it and sound exactly the same. They do it to honor that band and yeah sing a song they really like and have a good time.
One of the best covers I've ever heard. Ross and Shane are all over this. Part of the fun of any concert is the unexpected. BTW- just because Ed & Dean's Dad was a minister DOES NOT make them a hristian Rock Band- not that there's anything wrong with Christian Rock. they have some inspirational overtones at times but are NOT Christian Rock. They quite simply ROCK! Great job guys!!
Seriously. Some of these comments are hilarious. I love C Soul and that includes Joel, great musician and great guy. But better than Ross?!?! Are you kidding me? Obviously, not a guitar player making that comment, Ross is gifted, given the proper platform - ie, Randy Rhodes (whom I love and who is a monster) - Ross would be a household name. If you can't see/hear his God-given skill and special talent then can't help you. C Soul is as good as any US band in the last 20 years. Yes, some of their riffs are repetitive (who's are not - hello, Bon Jovi, 2 megahits with the virtually the exact same arrangement?) but, especially if you have ever seen them, they are special. Predictable song-writing and musical contstruction in many instances but their ability to blend killer guitar riffs with rising hooks and melodical bridges that are impossible to get our of your head, is exceptional. If you have not seen them, GO. As good a live act as any. Their audience....their true fans....are rabid and manic.....they participate in the event....and the band welcomes it. I once stood next to Ed a few rows from the stage at an outdoor show in Wilmington DE. It was pouring, like being under Niagara Falls. The security and techs were telling them to get off the stage. They had set up a plastic cover for the band and equipment but it was raining sideways. Everything and everyone was soaked. To the core. C Soul starts with Where the River Flows, all the support team members are screaming at Ed to stop singing and get off the stage. He looks at them and smiles. He jumps off the stage and right in front of us, right into the fans who are, unconditionally, screaming and stomping and rocking - while getting totally drenched and almost hurt by this driving thunderstorm. And before delivering his vocal for the chorus, he says into the mike, "Fuck it, if you guys are willing to get drenched than, damn it, so am I". POW. THAT is C Soul. He proceeded to finish the song right next to us, water spilling all over him (and us) with a grin so wide it reached both ears. Special times. Special band. Few are better. If you don't agree, that is fine, but you better LISTEN to their stuff and, ideally, see them, first, before you start with some of this uninformed criticism based on casual observation from your couch or car.
I also think that they're legitimately one of the best bands of the past couple of decades, although their studio output hasn't thrilled me in quite a while. Hoping to perhaps see them for the first time live if I can when they tour their new album. And I agree about Ross. Terrible shame that he and the band parted ways, and that's no disrespect to Joel or the new guy or anyone else. Ross is an incredible musician.
c'mon guys! It isnt about nailing this ozzy's song, its about having a good time..at least CS could play something like this, i think they're quite capable technically speaking.
Even if they split the verse riff, the solo was definitely not split. It's funny, most think that the intro riff is the hard part and it's not, the hard part is the verse riff.
I would pay to see Ozzy do an Air Supply Song, just as I would pay to see CS perform anything. :) Everybody has their own opinions and likes and dislikes. I have been to a concert when CS did some riffs from other bands and the crowd loved it, I hoped they would do a full song but they didn't.
holy shit man i mean i was suspicious but they nailed it i wonder why they arent bigger now they could blow that rap and jonas brothers out of peoples fucking ears
@iceonaboy you could be right, but I just think there's not as much feeling as Black Sabbath's drummer put into it. The fills are definitely different, but other than that it's a great cover.
Ozzy's voice sounds a lot more true and clear and fat sounding on this song. His voice suits the song better. Just compare the first 4 lines, and you can pick up the difference.
Just as good, if not, better than the original. Kudos to Ross on the solo. To those of you who say the solo is sloppy .. hello.. it's a live performance at Woodstock of course it's not gonna sound as good as a studio recording. it shouldn't. I can actually understand what Ed is saying but when Ozzy sings it, i just make up words cause his brain is too fried to pronounce anything coherent. CS > Ozzy
anytime I I hear a cover song to any band from another bandd I call it a tribute to the band who done the original and yes no1 can ever do it as good as Ozzy but its still a good cover nonetheless
Cover songs like these are awesome because they expose the music to people who otherwise might have never heard it.
Ed is definitely versatile. And his sound is always great! I would go to listen to just him and one guitar any old day.
Man, I am one of the biggest CS fans ever, and this was an AMAZING show!! I have always liked this Ozzy song, and to hear them play this, it just blew my mind!! =D
collective soul is amazing; not very many bands could do this song such justice
When bands sign other bands songs, they don't do it to copy it and sound exactly the same. They do it to honor that band and yeah sing a song they really like and have a good time.
my dad grew up with ed the singer so i got to meet him and yes they are very good
Very Nice cover by Collective Soul. Im very impressed by there proformance of Crazy Train.

They did a great job on this song. I like their version.
GOD BLESS THIS PERFORMANCE
He nailed that Solo...!!!
damn... this is one of the last bands I would think of to cover this song but they NAILED it
Ross Childress is collective soul's music! too bad he's gone..but he's back as a solo artist.

Guitar player KILLED that ride..
drl453 took the words right out of my mouth.
these guys are musician and not just another so-called alternative band for sure
I love to see a peruvian flag in the crowd.
And, Ross Childress is the man, guys!!!
You are so right... there is PERUVIAN flag among the crowd Flying HIGH. Cool stuff.
Thanks for letting me know that. Regards.
that solo was insane.
Holy shit, he nail that solo. nice job.
i was laughing hystericaly when someone threw a roll of toilet paper onto the stage at 2:26. lol

Collective Soul - Live in Lima - Peru - 28 Feb
i was the 100th person to rate this.
YEAH! Check out Ross doing the Randy Rhoads solo!
Oh, I agree
Ross Childress is the badass in collective soul..now he's gone
@AimeRivard dude- these guys ARE legends!!!!!!!!
Yeah I might know this. I've been listening to them for awhile...I'm Ed's age, maybe a little older. I'm not a kid.
Ross shreds!!!
Ross Childress is awesome!
great point. if people notice something, then it must NOT be original. why didn't i think of that?
nailed the solo! 5/5
Im pretty sure its a Custom 24. The third knob is the rotary switch and you can see the 24th fret has the bird inlay. just my guess tho
agreed man

yeah but its his song so it fits xD he could sing when it was brought out.. like 26 years ago
rosss fucking owns in this song!
Ross is gone....and I saw Joel live. I was impressed. I've been listening to Collective Soul since I could...and Ross was okay but never impressed me.
Ross was a fucking beast on that guitar. What a loss.
c'mon guys! It isnt about nailing this ozzy's song, its about having a good time..at least CS could play something like this, i think they're quite capable technically speaking.
Nice!!
The singer really sounded like some drunk bar karaoke person, but the rest of the band kicked ass
Nobody works that guitar like Ross does, CS just ain't the same without him.
Even if they split the verse riff, the solo was definitely not split. It's funny, most think that the intro riff is the hard part and it's not, the hard part is the verse riff.
There are a lot of bands that cover other band's songs so it's not uncommon to see something like this.
Maybe now not when I saw him in the early 80's

why not?
i think he carried the tune quite well for a live performance, actually.
damn good cover
Sounds a lot better than Ozzy, thats for sure.
Myles Kennedy
hahaha best one groovy

saben lo q es mas chevere? la bandera peruana en el festival download 2007. esta en youtube busquenlo!!! arriba peru
you have to yell it out man!

sta bueno
i see a PRS and a Gibson i believe
@goingwithzed
I was just about to say Myles Kennedy but ctuliebs beat me to it.
way better than the origional
What does Kami say about Ed, and why? Ed is working a mic. I would hope so---he's a musician. Tell me something I do'nt know!
lucky bastard! lol
zakk plays that solo best but you gotta give credit to randy rhodes he's one of the all time greats
I've been listening to CS since I was your age. What were you listening to in 1994?
@mrkpt Ahh, I stand corrected.
k.. this is a great song! but uh.. i think he's havin a little bit too much fun with the microphone stand lol..
i think this is better than ozzy ozborne
where did you see them?! i saw them in orlando last week
It was different but a good cover!
@shawnsemchuk no shit he wrote it
Dude i cant find the guitar tabs for this anywhere. Ive got the intro but i cant find the rest of the song.
@xXChristianOttXx what happened at the concert ?
Theya re as good as ozzy
What prs is ross using?
Starfish and coffee just needs a good singer.. then they can take if off from there.
For a cover song...you play it just like the original. Or you take the song and make it yours. They made it theirs...
Sound someone is just jealous that they weren't in a successful band. Jealousy is all I hear.
very echoy but other then that not bad
i didn't say it was their fault.
ross....didn't they get rid of him?
I dunno, I think it's better brown.
@niggaids You obviously don't know what the solo to Crazy Train sounds like.
