- The words to Eli, Eli (A Walk to Caesarea) were composed by the Holocaust era heroine and martyr, Hannah Senesh (1921-1944), when she lived in Palestine before the founding of the State of Israel in 1948. The melody was composed by Israeli composer David Zahavi (1910 - 1977)

I just watched a film about the life of Hannah Senesh. Realized that I had never read any of her poems. The words are beautiful and the melody and singing equally so.
It was so heart-felt, and so beautiful to listen to and watch..
Thank you for this pleasure..
I agree wholeheartedly. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Haunting voice of Sophie captures the icon Hannah Senesh. Hannah is an icon precisely because she never would have thought of herself in that way as she did what she needed to do to save her people. How brave! How courageous to put herself in harms way.
This is such an amazing video...thank you for sharing ...rest in peace Hannah, you are brave beyond words...a hero in any language
Started listening to Sophie Milman very recently. This piece of her work is simply spectacular.
Shalom, there is so much hatred in the world , as the bible says, it is because people have turned away from Elohim's Word. Today just about any reason is used to hate. I have experienced a great deal of hatred myself, and the comfort in my heart is knowing that because of the pain it causes I can be more careful not to cause it and because of Yehoshua in my heart and the power of His Ruach Hakodesh to be my strength, I can truly love my enemies so they can remember what it is and desire Him once more. I like this song so much, thank you
"There are people whose brilliance continues to light the world though they are no longer among the living. These lights are particularly bright when the night is dark. They light the way for humanity."
What a beautiful tribute.
What a beautiful tribute to a remarkable woman! Thank you for this.
rest in peace hannah♡☆
Lo ha emet.. the ISraelis dug up her bones and took them a 1/4 of the way around the world ... now Z''L. It is technically interesting as the policy of the UK government was to never repatriate but to bury soldiers where they fell. She was in the UK army at the time she was executed. This would be one of the few times any other path was taken- but by the government of her wish . She was not executed for spying because she was in uniform when captured. She was executed for treason. It shows the Hungarians knew the Germans would lose the war and the government and army were thinking very legalistically. But that did not save poor Hannah. Someone in authority should have been hanged for this after WWII but by then the iron curtain had fallen and Stalin's attitude towards the Jews is/was notorious. TEF
He was the only player on the world market besides Czechoslovakia to arm 1948 Jews in israel, credit where credit is due, but agreed he was a bad dude

Piękne, gyönyörü szép.
Köszönöm.
My name is Eli ❤
Beautiful. I prefer Connie Francis version which is so good, but this is good too.
Deus acima de tudo
I can understand the feeling that this song inspire to this singer but there is no necessary convert it in a mix of a slow-soul-gospel one....
