- Grading with the dozer and digging an electric service. I needed to move this pile of dirt so I could dig an electric service from the shop to the house. I used the dirt to start grading in the back yard and getting things dressed up. I got the ditch done the following day and got it backfilled and graded out again. Glad I saw this, reminds me I need to go cover up where I exposed the "surprise" water lines while trenching for replacing electric lines, and left them uncovered so the electricians can run conduit, (but everyone's still running behind and it'll be another week or more before they get here). It's 70+ here today, with lows in the mid-50s but it's supposed to snow early next week. (Or have a heat wave, for all the weather guessers really know.)

I have been slacken off on your vids recently, had a pretty rough holiday season this last year, but we’re back at it, interesting observations on the Deere skid steer, I know when I get used to a machine its hard to get in another machine and get used to operating that one. But pure hydraulic would be my preference. Thanks for the ride sir, nice job.

Brandon, I drove by last Friday. That’s the first time I saw the house erected. I knew it was about time for you to show up for the finishing touches. At this rate, he’ll be moved in by March!
I totally agree with your preference for straight hydraulic controls. The JD backhoe my neighbor rented had electronic controls. He didn’t know how to run it and called me over to show him how.
Trying to do finesse touches next to the foundation we’re a PITA for me. That tiny delay and lack of feel made it jerky and difficult.
Once I got the trench away from the house… I put him in the seat and showed him how do the rest of the dig. It was a series of downspout trenches to daylight so, I didn’t have to teach him how to terminate at a foundation. By the time he finished, the bottoms of the trenches were humped and dipped. We smoothed them out with baserock to remove all of the dips and maintain slope. I thought he did pretty good for a first dig… I’m just glad he got it done so I didn’t have to learn how to handle those herky jerky controls.
Looking forward to seeing the washer in action! Does the shop have a wash bay? Or, will you use it outside?
Hey sorry I guess I missed this comment. Yes it’s coming along and that doesn’t sound any fun on the jd backhoe. They are very jerky and a pain to run. No wash bay in the new shop but the concrete pad will be fine I think

It's always a challenge for me when I have to dig a ditch and not mix the coral rock with topsoil. Same with crushed rock and natural coral rock. Somehow it always seems to rain before backfilling and then it comes down to a lot of hand raking to make it look better. You have nice open space there to make grading mush easier. Will be interesting to see how much it settles between now and the finish grade.I am still amazed how much open space you have there as compared to here.

It's odd to me that the electric company doesn't bury their own cable. Around here, they insist on doing it. I offered to do the digging for mine, but they wouldn't approve it. I guess it's a liability thing for them? That was some really nice dirt considering what you normally deal with. Stay safe brother.
Ours is the same way on the primary stuff but these lines they don’t care it’s crazy. Yes it’s great dirt compared to normal 🤣

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could dig all the trenches at once,',, all the services go in one right after the other, then you fill them in at once?? 😂😂. It’s not that simple I understand though. Pretty flat there, but certainly enough grade to control the water runoff. Maybe that guy that put the pad in knew what he was doing!!! 😂. Of course he did,,,,.
That’s a pretty nice set up for the owner,,, 45 second commute on foot to work,,,, home for coffee breaks even, if he likes, lunch at home,,, nap and back to work!! It’s like a pre-retirement!! Nice!
If you wanted, you could slap together a few time lapse videos of the simple jobs like you had this week and create a filler video of “This weeks small stuff.” Something like that. Most of us would definitely understand the reason for a more simple format for those jobs. I say that with total ignorance as to how much work that would be for editing,,,,, sorry. The other camera work would be simple. The hard part would be remembering that you had a camera there in the first place!! Haha. Set it down, let it do it’s thing and pick it up when you are done! Todays time lapse was cool because you could see the area just get smoother with each pass you made. Regardless,,, whatever you do, we will still be here!!
On my front,,,,, I have an opportunity to trade the acreage currently right by the city and move about 20 miles west (I’m on the east side of the city currently) and have about 150 acres with no neighbours for at least a 1/2 mile! There’s just enough land I can establish a nice hay field for about 135 of those acres. There would be a little money going to the other guy,, maybe $100K we haven’t gotten quite that far. It all started at coffee on Saturday!! My wife is in love with the idea,,,,. I think it would be nice. Haying is pretty easy work, not much to be done by hand at all. Maybe I get to buy another tractor!!! Bonus toy!! I’ll know by the end of the week. Gotta talk it over with the doctor as well. He has said I can do basically what I used to now and just be careful with heavy lifting or high levels of straining. I can easily do that I figure. If it turns out we will be moved in ready for the springtime. It’s pretty flat there, so not too many opportunities for stone work other than flat work. The place is already landscaped really nice, just needs an extravagant patio!! The shop,,,,, it brings tears of joy to my eyes,,,😂😂😂. It’s enormous. My equipment will fit in one corner, all of the equipment, and the rest is for the classic trucks & cars. All concrete floors, 80 x 160 with 1/2 of it heated the other 1/2 enclosed equipment storage. He used to farm 6 sections of land (about 3800 acres for those that don’t know what a section is). He had a Quonset on there as well, but a small tornado took it out a few years ago! The pad is still there. Burnouts,,,, definitely gonna see some serious tire shredding burnouts!

The land deal was a bust. His wife wouldn’t leave the farm!! I have to respect that!! I wasn’t actually looking, but it was fun to think about. She loves our place and tried to buy it for their daughter’s family!! We are pretty happy here still! Who knows what pops up next!!
I did buy the other quarter section and leased it back to the seller as grazing land. Frees up some cash for them, and they still have access to land for their cattle. Becomes holding property for me! Pretty hard to lose on land and the lease gives a better rate of return than secure investments in the bank right now!
