Blast from the past fo sure. I remember them playing in a little place in Waikiki, had to be 74 or 75. Thanks for the post and thanks for KTUH which always played great music in those days, along with my morning wakeup chant!

    HI FXBlues,
The flute player was Kim Hutchcroft, flute and sax player for A&M/CTI jazz recording band called Seawind. In Hawaii, they were called "Ox" before they got signed to CTI and then A&M. The bass player is Kenny Wild, a former KTUH-FM DJ as well as bassist for Seawind. Honey Hutchcroft is the Honey in Honeyberry Jam.

Mahalo Kapuala88 for a little background on the folks behind this tune. The flute-playing is a real stand-out on this song. I was trying to remember the year this was released.. was it 72-73 or so?
    Thanks again!

Wow. Flash from the past. I sat at Mark Bender's house in 1974 (I think) and listened to Honey and Berry practicing this song. They were going to be playing at one of the Crater Festivals. . . wish my memory of it was better, but you know what they say. If you remember, you weren't really there.

I spent a lovely day at Mark's house up Tantalus way re-assembling a 10" reel of audio tape that had come off the reel and gotten almost hopelessly tangled. Honey and Berry were practicing for a gig and some of Ox were there jamming. 1974. Whatever happened to Mark Bender. He had his sights set on Tahiti back then. By the way, I was there and I remember a lot. All good!

Awesome! There were a few people there that day, but it was a million years ago. My favorite person though, was Sid (short for Siddhartha). Mark's harlequin great dane.

+Toni Sopocko I didn't mean I was there that day, just those years. I worked at audyssey sound. Did crazy stuff, heard great music, met interesting people. I remember almost all of it. Do we know each other?

I don't think so. I left for Kauai shortly after, and stayed there for 5 years before moving to Tahoe. Born on Oahu, so it's still home, but haven't lived there since 1975.

@@billellis5199 did you know Ed Roy? Was Audyssey on Waimanu Street when you worked there?

Where is the Napopo Street referred to in the song? Or might it be a reference to Napo'opo'o ?

Thanks for the posting! RUclips is cool. When I was a DJ at the University of Hawaii-Manoa radio station, KTUH-FM, we played this record. Then I ended up playing music with the composer of this song when the band reformed. Honey left with her husband (the flute player) as his jazz-funk band got a record deal with A&M records so they moved the mainland.
The band name changed to Berry Jam and we played around Oahu. Berry wrote some great songs, including "Hilo's Such a Rainy Old Town.

You may have known a friend of mine, Patience Brooks.
The jazz-funk band must have been Ox, later Seawind.
      Good times.
      Aloha.
